Why any woman would go to a male doctor for a pelvic exam is one of the great baffling mysteries. It's not that I think male doctors would get aroused; I don't think that, & it's a stupid thing to think, considering they do this all day every day. It's that only one man on this earth gets to stick fingers & objects in my vagina & have sexual knowledge of my body, & that's 'cuz I love him. Though a pelvic exam is about as sexual as an appendectomy, still, it just doesn't seem right.

@benmoro i can tell you that GYN males have done this thousands of times and do not become aroused by performing intimiate examinations. It becomes boring. When I was at medical school gynecologists taught me bimanual examinations and though my first encounter with a patient was quite awkward as she was only in her twenties and attractive, that aspect began to diminish due to experience and now i find the examination fairly routine - and even boring.

FYI, pelvic, rectal and breast exams are of very little value, and are NOT routinely carried out in other countries.

If I took my 13 year old daughter to my doctor and insisted she had a pelvic exam he'd report me to social services.

Pap smears in women under 25 do more harm than good.

But Doctors have been using scare tactics on women in the US for years. It's not about healthcare. It's about money and power.

Why is the "doctor" wearing a mask?

An exam consists of a breast exam, rectal exam ( to test for traces of bleeding), pelvic exam to include the "PAP Smear". And if the patient does not want these exams, they sign a consent stating that they understand that delay in diagnosis and treatment for various diseases and cancers could occur and that they may die.

They sign, and I go have a cup of coffee.

Actually they more commonly say O.B./G.Y.N. for Obstetrician/Gynecologist since the education and training for both fields occur concurrently and that's the title. Because of the length of the title, hospital administration used O.B.G.Y.N. to shorten the time and space to write it down and to refer to it in speech and it eventually became mainstream. Odd that in an era of LMFAO that anyone would find it strange at all.
