  • probably the worst version ive ever heard. Thin lizzy and bob seger > iron maiden.

  • Both bruce and adrian sing this classic

  • This is poor enough actually. Thin Lizzy songs don't seem to translate well into metal. I think you just need Phil Lynott to do it properly.

  • @Filmmaster91 The quality of the recording is very poor not the cover itself, fair comment do you think?

  • @Flamorgan The recording quality doesn't help, but I don't like the vocals I'm hearing at all. Thats nothing against Bruce Dickinson, he's one of my favourite singers, but that doesn't mean I'll say he was awesome even on the rare occasions when he drops the ball, and I would personally consider this one of those occasions.

  • Is not a Iron Maiden song.. Bruce Dickinson and the rest of Iron Maiden are invited by Adrian Smith to this show.. The Bootleg is called "Adrian Smith And Friends The Entire Population Of Hackney - Live In London, Marquee Club".. This show are the reunion of Urchin. Greetings.

  • watch My bob seger live you end statement about thin lizzy and bob seger and this dont contaim cowboy song in it :)

  • IRON MAIDEN IS A BIG FAN OF THE Thin Lizzy!!!!!

    Thin Lizzy influencd Maiden

  • @ingridwillian yeah, they always said that!!

  • way to go bruce!!!!! a true lizzy fan

  • love bob seger, but even though hes the original of this song, his version is to slow and sucks ass

  • This was The Entire Population of Hackney, not Iron Maiden per se. Adrian sung most of the gig, Bruce came out to sing this, they did, Losfer Words, then I think 2 Minutes to Midnight. It was a side project of Adrian's and Nicko's.

  • rhytm guitar was played like AC/DC... \m/

  • England's greatest metal band covering Ireland's greatest rock band covering America's greatest...um, Bob Seger. Cheers.

  • no this is defentaly 100 percent seger and ever sounds like he is singing background vocals. Why do people always want to rip others off? So you like Thin Lizzy better thats fine that doesn't give the right to hide the credit of the true artist.

  • @wthby300 No disrespect to Bob but the original version he recorded is played at a much slower tempo, most people are more familiar with the faster tempo cover by Thin Lizzy, hence the confusion with regards to who originally wrote the song. Most of the bands who have gone on to cover the song since then have taken their cue Lizzy and opted to play their version thats why most call it a Thin Lizzy cover.

  • A lot of bands such as Motorhead go so far as to throw in the little break down from the cowboy song that Thin Lizzy put in the middle in their live gigs

  • @wthby300 - It is most certainly not Bob Seger singing, at all.

  • Great song, great cover, lame "IRON MAIDEN" font on the cover of the album.

  • Man....that's an Excellent cover of Thin Lizzy's cover of Bob Seger's "Rosalie"

  • change ur info..

its a cover of Bob Seger's Rosalie..

  • @nattyasha101 I think this is much closer to Thin Lizzy's cover than the original Bob Seger recording, thus the information shall remain unchanged.

  • @Aypz it doesn't matter which it sounds more like

it's still the lyrics and music by Bob Seger

thus this is a Bob Seger cover

  • @Aypz and Thin Lizzy's version was much better the the original. and i agree, this is much closer to Thin Lizzy's version.

  • @Aypz The only problem is that it's a Bob Seger song.

  • @alpino22 I'm sick of arguing with these comments, information has been updated =P

  • @nattyasha101 got owned dude

  • @PapyMandarine that makes no sense... how have i got owned when i was the one pointing out that it's a bob seger cover...not a thin lizzy cover :S

  • @nattyasha101 i think iron maiden like lizzy better than seger, but this version does have background singers like segers version

  • @jmoney31705 Lizzy had Brian Robertson singing backup. Look for the video here on YouTube and you can SEE him singing it! ;-)

  • The "info" is that it wasn't Iron Maiden, it was a project Adrian Smith did with some old friends and bandmates of his where they played together (some of those joined him on ASAP when he left Maiden). Bruce Dickinson sang on the songs in the encore, which ofc includes this. Other than that they played lots of other cover songs, among which were some of the B-sides of earlier Maiden singles, like Rainbow's Gold and such.

  • Doesn't sound like something Maiden would do... But cool though!

  • that's not iron maiden, this is "the entire population of hackney"

  • Iron Maiden cantando Thin Lizzy!!! Muito fooodaaa.

Já cantou tbm a música Massacre em seus B-Sides.

    Up the Irons from Brazil..

  • so f*cking better than the thin lizzy song ! :d

  • Thin Lizzy's version is definitely the best. They make it sound like it's their own. :)

  • IRON MAIDEN has a gift there legends.

  • would this secret gig be the hammersmith? where they got the 2nd cd for live after death?

  • @WastedYears1991 As the description states, it was recorded at the London Marquee Club on 19/12/85. That's all the info I have on it.

  • you can download torrents and stuff free anonymously at this vid youtube . com /watch?v=hL4ZBNhlGwI

  • i knew it it was bob seger

  • perferct !!!

    iron maiden é a melhor!!!

    FROM BRASIL!

  • maidens own just bruce had in those 80s problems with voice because he was on a lot of tours, he rocks with voice now :))

  • Did you know this was actually written by Bob Seger and covered by Thin Lizzy?

  • @bigtmilano12

Yes I was, however this is much closer to the Thin Lizzy cover than the original.

  • I've been listening to this song by Thin Lizzy for prolly 25 years, never knew it til the other day.

  • @Aypz ya i agree, and man i love the thin lizzy cover, fuck, soooo good

  • @bigtmilano12

It was written about our little old radio station in Windsor Ontario Canada. Ms Trombley was program directer at CKLW the Big 8(AM 800) that was able to broadcast in 4 provinces and 20 odd american states. It was a trendsetter before music shattered into a hundreds of subgenres. That station had one powerful antenae and at night could be heard in Scandinavia

  • Lol iron maiden had a bit of soul in the beginning, but it's all been spent for their status :/ oh well; it's bands like TL that have kept their soul and risked their status; living in fame and living in honesty is hard to come by.

  • oh my god, what an ignorant comment...

  • Comment removed

  • stfu

  • @polyemphis Iron Maiden's great, but Thin Lizzy had something they'll never have: soul.

  • bruce dickinson is a vocal legend and without him iron maiden would not be as big as they are today

  • @RyanTF2 and without iron maiden bruce wouldn't be as big as today either :D

  • @lulhoofd22 well obviously thats why they go so well together?!

  • @RyanTF2 hah!

  • @RyanTF2 i totally agree

  • clean your ears

  • That may well be the answer, they aint been right since I 1st saw Motorhead in 1983!

  • UP THE IRONS FOR PHILO

  • This is a Bob Seger cover by two great bands

  • born in ireland ,,,y people take every thing thats writen on here so serious ....chill out ,,

  • thin lizzy are the best irish rock band too ever come from my island. and yes iron maiden are also a class band .....

  • Your island?

Who died and made you king?

  • Your country is listed as "United States" so your not even Irish.

And do try to claim that your Irish because your great great grandfather was Irish, it doesn't work like that.

  • maiden's must said thanks to thin lizzy, but they create the sound of doubles armonies. They took many elements from it.Thin lizzy is founder of heavy metal music.

  • @conceptworld

    your a dumbass,

this song was before they made any albums. This is extremly rare and i thank whoever recorded it because its well worth having a copy of it. If you actually had a brain and looked at a wiki page of iron miaden they have no albums beforehand meaning this was a pub gig so they could make like 50$ from it..

  • @D4NCEz WTF ? Thats Bruce Dickhead singing or Adrian Smith ? Neither was around in 70s before Maiden made an album! Therefore youre wrong! It was 1985. Fuck wiki try google Iron Maiden Rosalie!

  • Adrian's doing well on vocal's here, better than Bruce on this particular type of songs.. I wonder when we'll hear Adrian singing with Iron maiden again..

  • This aint bad. There version of Massacer is good as well. REMEMBER: There Lizzy freaks to.

  • hey faggot go and listen to your pussy coldplay

  • what a dick iron maiden are the best band int eh world fuck you

  • Sorry, this version can't hold a candle to Bob Seger's original. Zzzzz.... Maiden is a fine band, but they should stick with what they know.

  • The song was originally written by Bob Seger.

  • shit ur rite but thin lizzys version is defontly the best

  • I couldn't agree more, I'm not a big fan of this cover although I think Iron Maiden have released some brilliant songs. That said, I would still consider Thin Lizzy the better band.

  • oh yeah defo i mean if thin lizzy wos still going and they made a good song sound bad it feel the same way as i did to iron maiden

  • Why dont your family dies in crash?? think about it...

  • yeah but my family dont make cheap nock offs of great songs and den make dem sound shit think about it....

  • why cant you die in a crash so you cant talk shit on the internet im irish and il tell ya now iron maiden kick any irish and anyother band in the worlds ass be thank full youv been blessed by visiting an iron maiden video.

  • Iron Maiden are far from the best band in the world. Musically Thin Lizzy are the better band and even the likes of Christy Moore is more talented as far as songwriting is concerned.

Oh and please keep the "go die" comments to yourself, they aren't valuable reading and any future comments of the kind will be removed.

  • you my friend are deluded......... maiden destroy thin lizzy musically, and no band has written songs as powerful as some of maidens......... hallowed be thy name #1 metal song EVER and thats a fact.

when a band like metallica (who im not the biggest fan of but can be denied theyre success) state that maiden are gods.........who the fuck are you to argue.

    UP THE IRONS

  • There is no best band in the world, there are a few bands amongst the best.. Thin lizzy is inspirational, is amongst the best, but maiden is amongst the 5 or so best-of-the best.

  • im irish to u dik i dnt care thin lizzy r da best band ever and dey r irish most peps get dem confused wid yanks

  • He doesn't even start out with the right words.

  • I Love Iron Maiden but they never do a decent cover they also did a cover of a Thin Lizzy song Massacre but again its pretty weak

  • so blah blah yada yada... any of u kiddies plannin on bringin rock back from the grave? i keep waitin for the next gnr's or somethin, i mean, cahmonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn....

  • I love Maiden, great people, great musicians, down to earth guys, very funny and it shows here haha. I'm sure Bruce was a bit hammered cause he sang the wrong lines in the begining haha. Great stuff.

  • never saw Maiden, . wish i had .but i saw lizzy in bradford 1979 and motor head at leeds 1980 ? i think what a band thet are . these bands have to stay down to earth or they loose the fans. that is what is wrong with gary moore he thinks he is better then the fans all best from yorkshire england

  • i love Maiden, but this sounds like ass. i'm sure it was just them having fun, not being too serious about things. glad they dig a great song.

  • You're right, it was Adrian's secret gig, with his old band, called Urchin. They performed under the name "The Entire Population of Hackney". Towards the end of the show Bruce and some other Maiden guys went onto stage, and performed a couple of songs. There were one or two Maiden songs only. I had this gig on tape, but shit, I lost it. :(((

  • saw gary moore in april . if you like twats who play rubbish he is your man a fucking tosser .

  • He's a proper cunt I hated him in Thin Lizzy he was always about stealing the spotlight arrogant bastard.

  • thank you gary moore realy is a twat all he did all night was tell fock to fuck off .i am geting load of stick cos i am puting this on load of gary moore vids . if you dont like GARY MOORE go on is vids and leave a comment it is good fun upseting these wankers

  • Two of the best bands of all time.

  • This is NOT a Thin Lizzy song! They covered it, too... and so did Moterhead.

    Bob Segar wrote this!

  • Yes but Maiden are doing Lizzy's version cause they were influenced by them you knob, and Lemmy does it as a tribute to Phil.

  • Your statement doesn't make mine any less of a fact. Actually... what you said is pretty redundant.

  • Right I attempting to do that in the first place, but to let you know that Maiden are covering Lizzy's version, so your post is actually quite redundant.

  • My post is not redundant, because nothing I said fits into the defintion of redundancy.

  • Shut up you intellectual dwarf.

  • the great thing that i love in music played by both of the bands are the guitar harmonies. they're perfect!

  • if its a thin lizzy cover why didnt they do cowboy song exerpt in the middle,we know bob wrote it,lizzy made it their own.joan baez wrote diamonds&rust does judas priest think she rocks?they made it their own.dont jump on the person who posted the songforgive them ,for they know not what they write

  • Pretty good cover. Actually, every song sung by Irons is good. But I like Thin Lizzy's one more

  • Im a diehard fucking Maiden fan to the bone and I never knew they did a cover of Rosalie lol

  • R.I.P. Phil Lynott...Never ever ever forgotten

  • This is not a Thin Lizzy cover it is a Bob Seger cover - he wrote it. Thin Lizzy covered it.

  • Of course, from a technical point of view, it is a Seger cover, but the Irons cover it ONLY because Lizzy did it.

They were Lizzy fans and covered many of their songs live. They would never cover "Rosalie" if the song hadn't been covered before by Thin Lizzy.

Just like Metallica would never cover "Whiskey in the Jar" if it hadn't been done by Lizzy before, or Rush would never cover "Summertime Blues" if it wasn't for The Who's version...

  • Gotta say, this is an odd choice of cover for the Irons... Massacare, yes, definitely. Anything else by Lizzy with twin guitar harmonies, yes... but this is an odd one.

Doesnt make it bad though!!! Far from it! (Although the Bruce could have polished up on the lyrics, but thats me being picky...)

  • I completely agree, it is an odd choice. I'm a big Maiden fan and a masive Lizzy fan however I don't think Maiden did this song justice in their cover.

Thats just my opinion though, I simply uploaded it to share a rare find ^_^

  • An odd choice ?....This song is a fuckin blast to play. It's obvious they're having a blast playing it. A song with harmony guitars would require rehearsal time. This is the type of song that 4 hammered people, who've never played together before, could get up and play on open mic night..... It covers well, even Motorhead made it sound good...Case in point.

  • Dont get is wrong a love Iron maiden but a dont really care much for this cover like x

  • Maiden did a good version of Cross Eyed Mary By Jethro Tull as well.

  • The only good Lizzy Cover Maiden made, was "Massacre"

  • Doing whose cover is a moot point. The original by Bob Seger is the best one. The song is about CKLW Windsor/Detroit Music Director Rosalie Trombley...Seger wrote it tongue in cheek to get the record played on the Big 8 CKLW back in '72. There's the history.

  • Ur an idiot.

  • U R right mate!

  • Comment removed

  • heard motorhead do this live last year in dublin... now that was class because the place went nuts!!! great crowd great band and one kick ass tune!!!! good version this!! UP THE IRONS!!!

  • P.S. Lizzy's version is much better, this is too chaotic and too fast. I have nothing against fast music but in this case it doesn't work, Rosalie is supposed to be a melodic rock'n'roll song, not furious speed metal. The whole beauty of this song is lost in that chaos.

  • I agree, I much prefer the Thin Lizzy version, just thought this would be a good upload for those who had never seen it.

  • You consider this speed metal? I'd say it's not even 120bps. You're insane, man; this is around 90 or 100bps.

  • Who cares about the terminology, of course it isn't "speed metal" if you talk about the specific genre, but it's much faster and heavier than the original (even if it is not really that heavy if you put it in the 'metal' genre) and I only wrote that to emphasise the contrast between this and the original version(s).

  • Iron Maiden were Thin Lizzy fans, not Bob Seger's, so they are obviously covering Lizzy's song, even if the song was written and first recorded by Seger.

Just like Metallica covers Thin Lizzy's version of "Whiskey in the Jar" not the traditional Irish song.

  • Couldn't have put it better myself.

  • I little bit of history!!

Rosalie is a Bob Seger song and Thin Lizzy cover it back in mid '70s.

  • This is amazing they played this song 2 weeks before Phil died

  • This is absolutely a Lizzy-cover nothing else!

Motorhed done it to and I dont think any of the bands plays it as a tribute to Bob Seeger.

    Lizzy Rocks!!!!

  • bob segar actually wrote songs with the late great phil, and with gary to help n tabletture its a brilliant mix

  • ahh.. how typical of iron maiden to speed everything they play up... Good cover, Thin Lizzy and Maiden FOREVER!!!

  • shit on your heads maiden is the best

  • at least this is better than their cover of 'massacre'

  • haha again its not as good as lizzys version but again fair play to maiden and any band that has been influenced by lizzy.....:D

  • Have to agree, Lizzy's version is brilliant but this ain't half bad ^_^

  • Iron Maiden covering Thin Lizzy covering Bob Seger. So essentially, Iron Maiden covering Bob Seger. Interesting.

  • They might just be covering Bob Seger.

  • Noo there not covering bob segar, the guitar part is almost identical to Lizzies version and even sounds like it......well essensially they are!, oh god, these triple covers things get confusings! lmao

  • I went to this gig all those years ago. Billed as 'A Fun Night With The Entire Population of Hackney' it was Adrian Smith / Nicko / friends playing covers for most of the night and then Maiden came on at the end. I was leaning on the stage and got handed a can of Carling Black Label by Steve Harris (which my mum threw out some years later!). One of my mates bumped into Dave Murray on his way to the gig outside McDonalds in Oxford Street! A truly great venue(now a posh restaurant - sniff!).

  • awesome i was about to say was this before they did the other secret show as "the holy smokers" but i remebered that they did that one in 1990 so this was 6 years before

  • common ya two idiots they're both great drummers

  • and metal owns your ass, ergo screw groove, but however feeling, look up Blood Brothers - Iron Maiden Live Rock In Rio III and you'll see some of that feeling you've always wanted that will make you jizz more than you would ever believe

  • Nicko owns your ass

  • Nicki hits the drums, Brian plays them.

  • yeah... this is actually a cover of Thin Lizzy´s cover of bob segers song..

  • Yeah but its Rosalie/Cowgirls song. Lizzy added a part of their own Cowboy song with different lyrics (cowgirl) on the end.

  • "Rosalie" is actually not a Thin Lizzy song. Maiden was inspired by Lizzy's cover of it.

  • Yeah, Rosalie is originally by Bob Seger. But Thin Lizzy made it awesome... Cause i mean... it was originally by seger... BOB EFFIN SEGER...

  • Exactly, so I wonder why I've gotten two thumbs down?

I know what I am talking about people! :P

  • Great Post !!!!!! I've heard Maiden do Massacre but never Rosalie. Iron Maiden owe alot to Thin Lizzy. Together they're probably the two best guitar bands on the planet. With a nod towards the Priest as well. Thanks for posting this.

  • yeah dont forget saxon , awesome band, one of the best live bands ever.
