I dont remember quite well all the bands from the late 90, but Im sure Incubus and Sistem of a Down were the better of the nu-metal bands. Both started with that reminicence to Korn and progres to a music on their own, the fusion jazz-funk-rock of Incubus and the Eastern-Rock with strange time signatures of SOAD are actually progressive rock if only in spirit.

I think the most fun music to listen to usually is the music that's an acquired taste. Probably why only certain kinds of people can appreciate such great stuff.

@AlexStevens42. True. That's also the difference between music made with a soul and cheesy pop songs. Pop songs are great at first with their catchy melodies and pumping beats. But after a while, all you're left with is a void because of the hollow lyrics and music. That's when those songs pop up (oh the irony) that are hard to listen to at first but eventually really get you and leave a mark for eternity..

Yes, there is a lot of different ideas around how Incubus changed their sound, but let's be honest, they are way better than that Emo/Gangsta/Wannabe shit on the radio. Honestly that's how I see it, and they still sound pretty sweet to me. Besides, I can always listen to their older stuff whenever I want to.

Great bands like incubus only put out good music for 6 or 7 years. Look it up yourself, beatles, stones, zeppelin...they all put out great stuff for 7 years max then start putting out mostly crap. From Make Yourself to Light Grenades Incubus gave us those 7 good years. I have a strong suspicion that they don't have another good album in them. Some bands have a second wind like RHCP or U2 but that's after they mellow out. Incubus mellowed out at Make Yourself so there's not much more they can do
