  • holy shit

I would have lost my fucking mind

  • Oh. My. God. That was crazy!

  • I don't know. Somehow the terrible camera work just adds to the experience lol I feel like I'm pissed and in with the crowd!

  • Sinead O'Connor made a damn good job on this one!

  • This is one ofthe all time great songs, great talent of Shane and the Pogues, and Sinead does justice to it for the Kirsty part. Mythical!!!

  • Bloody amazing. I got tears in my eyes.

  • This looks like the most epic performance ever. Even the terrible camera work can't detract from it.

  • so woulud I.

  • Ah, what I'd give to turn back time and be there.

  • best concert i was ever at what a night the rds was hoping

  • The Pogues = the best band God ever graced us with !!!

  • Ohhh god if i had one wish it would of been able to see shane live singing fairy tale of newyork at his best :(

  • for fucks sake! did the fucking camera come with instructions saying shake da fucking thing ?

  • @LOSERLARRY what you have to understand is that i am blind drunk, have a broken leg & 15 thousand people are going mental. In others words keeping camera straight is very tricky indeed.

  • @spud1983 very good thanks a lot

  • @spud1983 I'm impressed at the quality of the sound and that you didn't get the camera knocked out of your hand. I have been to The Pogues' concerts before and can testify that just trying to stand still is impossible! Thanks for posting the vid.

  • Im speaking From Irishman From Belfast Ireland .. Kirsty Dieing took a big thing His life From Him.. Put him to Drink Not caring about his life.. Hes still Shane, Being Irish, Thumps up..

  • great and awesome - a beautiful document - I love it - thanks for sharing

  • Ten years ago today we lost Kristy. Not forgotten. May she rest in peace.

  • I LOVE THIS SONG ALL THE BEST FROM POLAND,I CRY I MISS ALL WHAT IS NAYS AND RIGHT

  • Looks like it was a fantastic night!

  • Wow, the only one drunker than Sean was the person filming this.

  • and he is dancing again with the girl!wow!

  • I wish I could have been there to see this live.

  • Shut up everybody!

    Let them sing it, assholes!

  • hi mrsteamboatwillie or whoever yeh are sinead o'connor is a fucking irish idol got it,

shes amazing, guess you just dont know talent when it hits yeh.

  • @SeonaFerrity

    and also a hypocrite

  • The looks like it was quite possibly one of the most magical moments at a concert ever. Lucky bastards!

  • Magic

  • 320,812 watching a crappy video from a cell phone. What does that tell you? Fantatstic song. If it takes Sinead to carry on , so be it., at least it's carried. At 16, working in a crappy video rental store in Canada, somehow this came on the radio , froze time, and changed my life. Oh, and I know all the words.

  • @vwripitup Nice comment, and Your so right, it done the same for me?

  • R.I.P. Kirsty

    Sinead is o.k.

  • @MrSteamboatWillie dont kw wot ur on about. ye shes not kirsty mccall but shes still a good singer. top song, top atmosphere.

  • so glad that sinead filled in there, but for those who say too bad about kirsty, or it is a shame----nuts to them, I knew kirsty for a bit, and kirsty was the lady that took on all chalenges, do not mourn for her, mourn for the others that do not even attempt to do what she did

  • @fubar50cat that is a class statement

  • @fubar50cat i can't help but mourn the tragic death and loss of talent. she was amazing. doesn't feel right watching anyone else sing that song w/macgowan.

  • @fubar50cat how did she die,i heard a boat accident in mexico? is that true?

  • @westone4u I read on the wikipedia, she died after being hit by a power speeding boat... She saw a boat coming towards her son and she pushed him away so she got hit instead of him. It was in cozumel mexico so you heard right...

  • Yeah,rest well Kristy,died saving her son

  • He was also in the Nips,

  • yes ... i'm a little drunk .... but this is still a bit awfaul + amazing in equal measures ...

  • stay alive as long you can

  • It still does the trick, Tingles down the spine and back of the neck. Long Live The Pogues, Long Live Sinead.

  • @woodsypleb Yep.

  • gosh. Im spanish but listening to this vid id love to be an irish just in the middle of the crowd. Simply amazing!!! Id cry if i were there

  • god has fuck all to do with it its pure grit and determination through troubled times and balls the size of an elephant and as a great chief once said we deem to persevere, thats the fucking irish in us throw what ever the fuck you like at us we will throw back larger and fuck your ideas of a world that you say is free we will make our own ourselves alone.

  • Shane Mcgowan is an amazing composer...

  • give me goosebumps every time i hear this song. Heroes are forgotten, legends never die. long live Shane!!!!

  • I offered him a drink at a festival once..and he turned it down :)

  • god i would give my left arm to be there. thankyou for sharing. closit ill ever get. xxxxxx

  • 'I'm half Hebrew myself but the children are three quarters Mick Catholic'.

  • Classic, the stuff of legend.

  • Irish FTW im irish

  • the song was brill but the vidio was bad

  • sha! it was lovely.

  • Looks like a night!

  • This man is god!!

    a belgian fan

  • Absolute Brilliance, yi scumbag ya magget, love it!

  • an epic video spud

  • My favorite Christmas song ever...Growing up in NY, it has that extra sentimental oomph. McGowan's a legend. And always think about how important that Irish spirit has been to our city.

  • brilliant - recording just as chaotic and shambolic as the song!

  • Check out ANOTHER LONELY CHRISTMAS by Maltese band DIVINE SINNNERS. It's got a very funny video.

    Happy Xmas!

  • Class track xxxx Picked up the vibes from this recording --Sinead done well and Gob Bless and thoughts to Kirtsy family xxx

  • Leave the guy alone, if he is alcoholic, im sure he knows the consequenses and the help that is available out there...stop dissin the fella...GENIUS!!!

  • @bonbon101164 He is a genius!

Best lyricist (if that's even a word) Out there! :)

  • Thanx!

  • Hi is Genius !!!!!! I love him

  • @bonbon101164 Agreed, he is a step above mozart, I met the man in 98 when he and popes played the Guinness Fleatdh. He is truly uglier than a bats arse in person, and has more talent in one brown nicotine stained finger than 99 % of the all the bands out there combined. Him living this long proves that the allmighty god does love us all and want us to be happy.

  • @guyphawkes

the Popes? you mean the Pogues? unless you're reffering ot the smoking popes whom he has never sang for..

  • @greg0rius , Uh, Shane sang in a band called Shane Mcgowan and the popes, they did quite a bit of great music over the years.

  • @greg0rius Once Shane left the Pogues, he was part of another band called the Popes.

  • sweetnes, isn't it just amazing how many of us are called genius, and are alchoholics. maybe there is a connection? anyway, merry freakin christmas, and i miss Kirsty

  • I wish there was a proper video of the two available

  • @Rodnox

that´s what i liked to see as well.

    As many others, i guess

  • haha where have you been there is a proper video duh

  • Well, I was here and that is not a proper video. Do you have a link?

  • just type in the pouges fairy tale of new york and its like the 3rd video its 4 miniutes long

  • just to quote you "haha where have you been"....

I wrote clearly "a proper video OF THE TWO". I sure do know there is plenty of Videos from the Pouges of that Song and most of them with Kirsty MacColl, which is a great singer.

But this one here is with Sinead O'Connor and there is unfortunately no proper video of the two available.

    Specsavers?

  • cuddihy the man is an alcoholic. he's classed as a lyrical genius but he's still an alcoholic. amazing though

  • it seems that the most talented people god has put on this planet hes also put a couple of demons with them...

  • what ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Incridible talent, THANKYOU!

  • cool!!

  • Cool. It seems Amazon has it in stock right now. $13.49, brand new. Bet we know some of the same people, btw. Check out my channel if you have time.

  • I saw The Pogues on the 1987 Fairytale Of New York tour in Birmingham Alabama. It was incredible.

  • Holy shit. If I would have known the Pogues then, and not been an infant, I would have been there. Where did they play?

  • They played at Sloss Furnace, an old iron furnace that hasn't been used in many years and has been restored as a museum. They played outside but it is a covered area. They played at night. Shane was asked in an interview what some of the best shows they played were. He cited that show. He referred to it as "an old iron furnace in Birmingham Alabama". One of the best shows I have ever seen.

  • Shane is a sad case of wasted talent. He hasnt been sober since the 1980's. I saw him piss himself onstage at the Irish festival in Boston at Suffolk Downs opening on stage 3 for Dropkick Murphys. He got 30 seconds into his FIRST SONG and he announced to the crowd he had to piss, and as he was coming off the back of the stage to get on his tour bus to piss, he just stopped and said "fuck it." It took him 15 minutes to get back onstage and his band played instrumental songs until he got back.

  • He hasn't been sober since the 80's? Ha! He hasn't been sober since he was 12. No kidding. It takes a long time for all the shit to really take you down sometimes, that's all. He did all his great stuff fucked up. He is a (anti)hero in Ireland. Long live Shane. Cheers.

  • He is just as big of a hero in Boston. There are more Irish people who are eligible to be citizens of Ireland in Massachusetts than there are in all of Ireland. I bet you didnt know that! (meaning your grandparents had to be born in Ireland to be elogible for citizenship. Shane's worled with Boston band Dropkick Murphys for almost a decade.

  • I wikied him today; it says he says he had crazy family and remembers being served drinks at the age of four. Poor guy...also it says he honked all over fans in 2002...but suggests hes still trying to kick it. So it goes!

  • I like this crowd jolly-ness in this video....it has a great sincere vibe.

  • Ye faggot

  • i hope wat ur saying is true. cuz i just sent ur comments 2 his record company. slander someones name like that. even em drunk he is better than u. u loser. hope wat u say is true. my dad works for his company. u freak

  • Comment removed

  • slander is not slander if it's true. Find a period of 6 months between now and 1990 that Shane did not drink any alcohol, and you will prove my statement "Shane has not been sober since the 80's" to be untrue. That way, you and Shane can sue for damages! lol I'll be waiting, dumbass! ROTFLMAO Until then, have another drink...with Shane!

  • Oh yeah, if you get a chance pick up the DVD If I Should Fall From Grace: The Shane MacGowan Story. It's a little hard to find sometimes but worth the effort. I think you would dig it!

  • Yeah, I know where Sloss is. I've been there a couple of times. I'm from Alabama and have to drive through Birmingham every time I go home or go back to Tuscaloosa. I'll snag that DVD if I can find it.

  • Fuckin MAGIC! Bring tears to a glass eye!

  • sounds crap to me

  • awsome!

  • It sounds like Sinéad found a way to channel Kirsty from the afterlife.

And everyone singing along with her part and the mic feedback and the horrible camera work.

    So. Fucking. Awesome.

This will always be my favorite Christmas song.

  • This footage is so bad i love it- just goes with the atmosphere -cool

  • KRISTY WAS KILLED yes..however, ..THIS IS Sinead O'Conner, and she is alive and well!!...lmao

  • Great!!!

One of my most favorite songs!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Thanks Spud1983!!!curtis

  • Wish it was christmas again, but here goes....DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME. THERE IS ONLY ONE POGUES & U SHUD LOOK AT THEIR VID INSTEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I am not sure that is Sinead, but I am pretty sure that is Shane.

  • it's such a shame about Kirsty

  • @vstreamer what happened to her?

  • @mmasny - she got killed in an accident, Run down by a speeding boat on vacation while saving her son.

  • @vstreamer and what's shameful about it?

  • @mmasny Perhaps you are not a native English speaker. I did not say it was shameful - it's a shame -- it's a shame that she is dead, and no longer here on this earth to sing.

  • @vstreamer you have it right I'm not.

  • its a shame she passed on because if you ever seen kristy and shane sing fairy tale of n.y it was made for her voice and its a shame you obvious never heard them together JACKASS!!!

  • Kristy Mc Coll in the heart...

  • Yeah. Why is Kristy gone? And how is Shane even still alive????

  • she died in 2000

  • motorboat accident in mexico

  • He and Keith Richards probably share the magic juice of eternal life or something.

  • you know how they say that a poison, when taken on continuous small quantities can cure an illness?

    that's shane for you.

  • she was killed in a speed boat accident

  • Hats off to all those here who know the power of this song, and Shane...and Sinead!

    'Next rounds on me!'

  • Thanks for posting.Though the quality is very rough it catches the mood very good.Great job.

  • Makes me cry every time.

    God bless you Shane.

  • best xmas song ever written . . none will ever top this . .

mcgowans words are pure, true genius . . i had the pleasure to witness this live at the rds- one of the best shows i've ever seen.

Thank you shane and the pogues

  • 3:02 wow sOo wish I was there!!....and merry christmas people-2008 :D

  • kirsty macoll made this song, and no one can beat it

    R.I.P

  • Brilliant atmosphere - wish i was there :-)

Is funny how more and more people regard this as their fav xmas song

  • HAHA!

    Quality comment!

Be fair tho... its hard for shane to sing when he's got no teeth

  • not as good as the katie melua version lol. never knew they did this together. super

  • I like Melua, but she doesn't fit in that song. Not if you have heared the Version with Kirsty MacColl all your life. She is the only one that sounds .. familiar ...

  • was at the pogues last week in the kings hall......awesome.... best nite ever

  • Best version, yet, of only song, I like. TNQ

  • Dido would be a good chioce to do it this year shes got the right kind of voice

  • For Laura, happy Chistmas.

  • who is filling in for sinead o connor this year? i heard it was amy winehouse???that cant be true is it? some show isnt it!!

  • This is by far the best X-Mas song ever so so so good got the best lyrics and 2 of the best singers i love it

  • Yepp, but with Kirsty Mc Coll!

  • shit that looked good.

  • Jesus- I wish I was there.

Brilliant song-my fav of all time!!

    Cheers!!

  • Looks like fuckin' chaos. Wish I was there!

  • Maybe I'm being dense, but is Sinead wearing a santa costume and is their fake snow falling from the sky? Can somebody who was there confirm this. BTW Sinead was pretty damn good filling in for Kirsty.

  • Yes she is wearing santa suit and it is fake snow. get your ticket they are back again in kings hall 6th december

  • Is this the kings hall belfast?

  • Yes

  • Oh right i thought so thanks, was there a few weeks ago for planet fun.

  • Are you sure it's not Shane MacGowen who's drunk and singing out of key? lol!!! None the less, this was was pretty cool and I wish I had been there. Looks like everyone was pissed and enjoying life for a few minutes.

  • EX-CEL-LENT !!!!

  • One thing i hate with concerts today is all the fucking cellphones :D

    Great vid!

  • Wow, nothing makes a song this great all the better than drunken idiots with cell phones who can't sing a tune to save their x-box'd out asses.

  • The version with MacColl is the best one ever, but this one with O'Connor is very good too.

  • I still think nothing can top the original version with Kirsty MacColl--there was something about the energy she brought to it, and her voice was perfect--but Sinead is definitely the closest to match that. It's good to see Shane back in form!

  • Yeah you are right,Sinead O'Connor realy is closest to Kristy MacColl

  • i was at that, i was third from th front, som gig hi,

  • What a great video, It appears that Shane is back. I haven't heard him in such good form since the eighties. I hope he has many great years to absorb his fans appreciation of his unique and great talent.

  • He Was Amazing. Hopefully they will be back next christmas!

  • life has a few perfect moments and i believe this was one for me- about 3 1/2 minutes in2 the song shawn was singing to sinead and i was looking at everything wide eyed= a couple kissed beside me and everyone was on the same level just for that moment....it was amazing

  • perfect night. i have done miles from Greece to see it

  • This song is good But the oringal with Kristy mcall is the best version But still good.

  • fuckin was a great nite hi, fiesta was a memorable performance hi, right at the end too like

  • this was amazing last night! i love sinead!

  • great night cant remember much like as always.............
