I saw The Pogues on the 1987 Fairytale Of New York tour in Birmingham Alabama. It was incredible.

They played at Sloss Furnace, an old iron furnace that hasn't been used in many years and has been restored as a museum. They played outside but it is a covered area. They played at night. Shane was asked in an interview what some of the best shows they played were. He cited that show. He referred to it as "an old iron furnace in Birmingham Alabama". One of the best shows I have ever seen.

Shane is a sad case of wasted talent. He hasnt been sober since the 1980's. I saw him piss himself onstage at the Irish festival in Boston at Suffolk Downs opening on stage 3 for Dropkick Murphys. He got 30 seconds into his FIRST SONG and he announced to the crowd he had to piss, and as he was coming off the back of the stage to get on his tour bus to piss, he just stopped and said "fuck it." It took him 15 minutes to get back onstage and his band played instrumental songs until he got back.
