very nice sound! how it's this done? only by circuitbend and connect things inside the casio SA-1? Or did you put more electronic componoments inside? it sounds like a nice filter. I just bought a casio SA-1 for 1 euro. would be nice to get that sound also by just some extra wiring inside!

On the circuit board with all the small sticking up bits... on which side does the black (neg) wire go and which does the red (Pos) wire go, or do you use different wiring?
These Casio sa's are at their best when glitched 'alaeotron' style. . . There's a couple of pins on the (big) soundchip that make the machine deep crash and spit out amazing nuggets of random / self composing sounds.
Half the time the machine will just crash, but the other half the time you can be treated to awesome mangled loops and grooves.
Not sure if it works on this SA-2, but it works fantastically on the SA-20 and SA-65.
Yep! But just stay away from the power-supply! (The Area where the Jack is, where the DC-Adapter is plugged in) Otherwise you can fry you keyboard.
Try to fool around at the black "chips" on the board. It's often the case that the keyboard goes out and does no response. Just turn it off and back on and it'll be fine again.
Keep in mind: It's unpredictable what sort of sounds you can acheive with circuit bending. But thes old Casio-Keyboards work fine for it.
i just poked around on the circuit board until i found 2 spots which created this self-oscillating-sound. then i attached an LDR to it. yeah... that's it.
Hey man, that sounds sweet! The feedback is just like a zvexx fuzz factory when the synth cuts back in.
I know it's rude to ask, but is there any chance you could send me a wiring diagram or a photo of the connections and types of resistors/transistors etc. that you have used.
I have been trying to bend my casio sa 1 for ages with absolutely no luck! Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Man, that's just awesome! Maybe you want to share the schematics of your bending with us? I have this keyboard here and i'm using it for nothing, but have my sa-1 bending that way would make it way more useful... thanx in advice!
This has a wonderful over driven sort of sound! I like how the sound breaks up when the pitch drops slowly. Having that pitch effect controlled with a foot pedal would be something!
lol the badass version of the keyboard cat tune!

why would you ruin such a classic piano? seriously... synths wern't build to sound this shit..
zplin12 7 months ago
@zplin12 it's neither ruined nor a piano ;)
i just improved the circuit for a new feature.

I miss my SA-1! Used to take it with us backroad cruising, left it in the car and the sun melted it :(

Could you answer a few questions?

how do i do something similar?? i have on eof these and want to do the business.

That's right. It's always entertaining when the casio creates random melodies.
You can hear this phenomenon in a few of my casio-videos.
I'm pretty sure that it also works on a SA-2...

This was my first mod on this one.

Man, if my SA-1 had suddenly sounded like that back when I was 6 I would've gotten pretty scared. Awesome mod :)

Thanks! I added a few more things. 2 knobs and a body-contact.

wait
so if i get one i just poke around with the circuit and hope for the best ?

and when you found 2 spots which sound "cool" when short-circuited then solder a switch onto it. (or a pot)
Raunchola 3 years ago
Dude, how do you do this? haha

What? Did you make sure not to solder longer than 2 seconds on the IC?

cool, you have anywhere the scheme?

No. Found it out by myself.

you've got the scheme anywhere on the net?

Thanks. Yeah, sounds harmonic but i wish i could dither the effect so it wouldn't be so loud. BTW Good idea with the foot-controller.
