a lot of students dont even look like theyre trying when chi sau with Ip chun, gotta go easy on the grandmaster and all that, this probably pisses him off. No challenge for the man.
an 84 year-old master in that state of health is rare wouldnt ya agree? not to mention he's a smoker!! Martial art is not just for fighting or self defense, it's for health development also. Wish i could be that healthy at that age :D
I think it's still effective given the circumstances that you happened to break the outer defense and get that close to the opponent. At this point-blank distance, no hand-eye coordination can catch up with that speed. Although I think it's more suitable for a defensive/counter-attack situation.
the best gun in the world is speaking before fighting for something stupid, fight just for fight is just for stupid people fight for smething that really worth it is be intelligent and use your brain
Isn't the point of martial arts is to know how to fight without fighting, to relinquish the ego, to let the discipline in all aspects truly permeate our body, mind and soul. The presence of such great masters was the inate ability of not wanting to fight but exchange disciplines and learn upon them eg. Ip Chun. Blessings to those who are truly know what a warrior mean.
People keep missing the point of most styles. MMA as seeing on tv is a sport, therefore has rules to follow, and limitations. Real fights are not meant to last more than 5 minutes. A simple strike to the groin can end a fight. If you don't understand martial arts, than it becomes pointless to give an opinion base on what your eyes see.
@branguzzler one jab can knock a man out, but never a master. I mean i respect your opinion/response, the fact is wing chun is not just crap. Wing chun is a concept used to boost your kicks, punches, balance, stances, etc. You're just dumb like every other youtubers here who knows nothing bout it and it makes you look like a fool.
@VueThao19 nah a jab can knock a master out aswell,if it hits. There is no way to train your chin or temple to take on enough pressure, you might train it to take about 200 ibs more pressure and that would still be hard thing to do.but we can train to deliver far more power the we can actualy take.the ability to train your finger bone strong enough to break through coconuts.certain areas of the human body are only so trainable, pressure points and gaps between the bone.ive seen jab go for 1600ibs.
@girtrute would you hit a master first before he/she hits you? i can see your comment and understand it, but what im saying is that you wouldnt even get a hand on him before he land one on you. sorry if i wasnt clear enough
@VueThao19 Master have far better knowledge in the martial art world (experiences). I give you credit for your info. but that jab will likely hit the student instead :/
Well I agree the 85 year old might not stand much of a chance in MMA. But then you my friend are missing the glory of the moon and the stars. He's 85 and he's damn quick....
@Gordonisafreeman bro look at the video again the student pulled back he could've hit him! and he was looking at him! don't be fooled by the old "fabled" grandmaster lure
@erving25 and look at the grand master, he was just playing with the kid, if he was serious, he'd actually kill the kid and the kid knows his role lol.
@Azn69Knight He's not a kid he shaves and has a very thick beard. Shows how much you see when you look about. Take a look again without bias and see what else you can notice.
It's called martial arts for a reason.ARTS.ARTTTTTTT.It's not meant for roid raging men trying to butt fuck each other in a ring.Get that MMA and UFC shit out of here. It's a 19 second clip for christ's sake that has nothing to do with mma and joe rogan is a washed up television star. Now get your big dick contest out of here.
Wing Chun is very effective. It is a martial art specialized to defend yourself against someone twice your size without relying on strength or speed but sense of feel. Wing Chun originated from Shaolin Temple by a Buddhist nun from watching a snake and crane fight. She combined those movements with her own knowledge of Kung fu and passed them down to a woman named Yim Wing Chun who she used against a warlord trying to force her to marry him. Her family taught others the martial art, including t
Dude, you pause at EVERY single second, I assure you, you will not find one frame at which the white guy had a clear path to punch the old man from. The stances the old guy forced him into deflected all paths like water >_>" Clearly he had the upperhand in close combat.
This is amazing, I dont do martial arts but you dont have to be a genius to see every frame and tell how bad a position that white guy is in.
@InsaneMonkey7 Err no, i do not believe its magic, but this man is a grown man and that guy is a nearly, if not already, century old relic. I'd say the century old relic is at an OBVIOUS disadvantage. Stick an equally built guy as the boxer and give him Wing Chun, then you can use that comparison. But from what I see right now this fighting style is legit.
@InsaneMonkey7 It's not a fight my friend, it's called dan chi sau. It can be used in a real fight, but not like this. there is another way to aply it in a real fight.. You can not compare a boxer with wing chun dan chi sau
@tazss159 please look up "wing chun no substance" on google and click on "Wing Chun NYC and read the passage, then tell me its a useless martial art.
An art's main focus is to teach a person who to overcome a challenge. Learning and perfecting the art also conditions not only your mind but your general health and insight with your own life. You should think about that when you are practice an art of any kind, whether it is martial or something as simple as drawing or writing. When it is perfect so is your mind.
@liamjd1 agree, it doesnt matter what you learn, as soon as the adrenelin starts going you lose fine motor controll, martial arts is about building attributes coz all the techniques go out the window in reality
But you seem to be assuming that everyone's sympathetic responses are invariably the same and incapable of variation. And I think that's demonstrably untrue.
The ideal of martial arts training isn't merely the development of fine motor skills.
It's also the development of a psychological self-mastery that can vary the threshold of sympathetic response.
No one is saying that's easy -- but to deny it as a possibility is just plain wrong.
@greenrate I think u misunderstood. I dont believe training of fine motor control is the main goal as you would also need to train to control adrenelin which can take ages. By attributes I mean things like line recognition, conditioning alongside sensitivity, speed, power, reflexs etc. You will probably appreciate that its not the art but the person that is important, and it is attributes that make the person good
A style or form is only as effective as the person using it. It does not mean that if you know shaolin you can automatically beat someone using karate. The form does not dictate what you can do. It teaches you the motions and give you the tools but it will not fight for you. So in a fight with different forms anything can and will happen.
UFC and MMA are craps. Any big size dudes with average street fighting skills can be MMA or UFC combatants. All u need to do is take steroids and train in the gym, learn some punch, kick and throw moves and u are a MMA dude. And that craps.
To all nay-sayers....the reason why many kung fu styles are looked down upon is because so many bad Kung Fu practitioners are out there promoting the arts. It isn't until you run into the real thing (whatever style) do you realize the depth of the skills.
people who havent studied the art dont understand the principles and how they are applied it is effective against takedowns in so many ways realistically as soon as they shoot in for a takedown we shoot in to make it closer range and theyre already done before they knew what happened. we dont take step backs in wing chun we close the gap so if they shoot in thats good for us.
you all arre idiots comparing Wing Chun to MMA or UFC. You can use ing chun in MMA because the moves are too dangerous and illegal. they are very effective and can stop somebody very quickly. any skilled wing chun practicioner would make a ufc fighter look like a fool especially some of the masters in Hong Kong. Wong Shun Leung fought a 240lb boxer and won in 3 punches its been proven how effective and lethal it is. it is very easy to kill someone in a life threatening situation.
Wing chun is a combat martial art that was developed to injure and or kill opponents quickly. I learned wing chun when I was younger and still practice it. Its not something you can take to a competition because its too dangerous. If your wondering yes I have used it before and all I can say is that this art is something that should only be used if your life is in danger.
In all honesty, what style you use does not matter in a real fight. Ip Chun and other grandmasters of a certain martial arts styles are grandmasters because they have mastered the fundamentals of their style to the highest level and can now use the style most creatively and effectively in any situation. There is no such thing as "one style is better than the other style", rather it is the person who counts. Martial arts is improving oneself and being the best you can...not bashing on styles.
ive found that good old western boxing works the best in street fights i have trained in various martial arts including wing chun, boxing ,kickboxing karate judo sou fist kung fu and i think that fancy stuff does not work i mean if someone tryed to tornado kick you any one would just smash him. but one martial art is not ever better than the other it is the strength of the man and his mind that determins a fight both physicaly and mentaly
Anyone that begins a martial art, I tell them whatever it is, find an old master that still can train. If you can do that, you've got a great opportunity to study a system for the rest of your life.
Check where the old guy is punching. He is punching the young guy in the throat. It has nothing to do with mma, where punching someone in the throat is not allowed. After spending 15 years in martial arts and combat sport, i would say they are pretty different thing: martial arts, combat sports, and self defense.
People need to realize that Martial Arts as a whole teaches self-dislipline. Also, Yip Chun is old. Obviously he's not going to be as alert as he was when he was younger. Stop coming up with this whole MMA is better than any martial arts because it's not. Only someone who is lower than master would lose to MMA. Get that shit outta here.
I don't want to advertise my ignorance but, having studied ip ching wing chun, I'm still not sure if the difference between ip chun and ip ching is simply the result of trying to anglicize a chinese name or if they're brothers or what?
dude face is in amazement at the GrandMaster taking time to even touch him... i'm sure he improved greatly behind this.. it something about when you touch your hero, their greatness it seems to osmosisly sep into you
at 0:05 he is startled and looses his balance...look at his right arm hanging down usesless. he didnt like that, cause inside although being an old man he is still a kid eager to impress, so to save face he starts pounding on the younger guy! :)
yea, i can see how he is a master. a grandmaster even.
seems to me that all within the martial arts are emotional children. im glad i left that selfcentered scene.
@CT2507 i don't think his hand was hanging down "uselessly", but because he didn't need it at the time. If you take a closer look, he had locked down both the other guy's hands with one arm. I think you've read too deeply into the situation, and have come up with some interesting psycological phenomenon which may or may not have to do with your own self-centered view on life and your own "accomplishments", or lack there-of.
@crossout9 well that just shows that u are blind then and dont want to see what your eyes are telling u.
he is definetly surprised, and his ballance is broken at 0:05. he needs to take a step back to regain his ballancet. which shows lack of control and surprise.
if the attacker had used that small window of oportunity with a quick follow through, he had a good half second to send ip to the floor. a good facepalm would at that point have been sufficient... or a strong push!
@CT2507 Well, if you would look at his other videos, there isn't any difference between this spar and any other. He consistently uses one hand against opponents, and quite often strikes back. And no doubt your hypothesizing of attacks the other person could've used are quite valid in your hypothetical mind, in the real world, the grand master of wing chun has extremely good body structure, and I highly doubt he would be "sent to the floor".
@crossout9 as i said. once his ballance is broken, which it is at 0:05, a strong and quick push would have been suficient to uproot him completley. it doesnt matter what u think of his other videos. this video is enough.
also once he starts pounding away in the same spot like an imbecile, he is already creating a pattern. after the second blow from him its easy for even a half decent oponent to anticipate and intercept.
the only reason it doesnt happen is because of exagerated respect!
@CT2507 You have a very valid point, but remember this guy is nearing ancient, though he may be a grandmaster, age will always take a toll on the mental state, reaction time, and especially alertness, that would be my explanation for why he was so startled and unreceptive when the other guy attacked. Maybe he was a "true grandmaster" in his prime but we'll never know now... That's my take on this.
@Arbiter1231 thanks... good to hear from someone who isnt impressed with everything "shiny".
i feel people overall have too much respect for this man just because he produced bruce lee. but it becomes a blind form of respect when one refuses to see what is obvious.
@CT2507 You obviously haven't seen, nor care to look at other videos. Your lack of knowledge renders your argument moot, and your disinterest in educating yourself makes this conversation useless. Last Point: Having studied wing chun, and knowing the stress on creating a strong body structure, the grand master wouldn't be put off *balance*, and this exercise, chi sau, is the practice of anticipation of attacks, blocking, and counterattacks.
@crossout9 hahaha.. your calling this crap education, renders your brain jouvenile and stupid! :)
ofcourse im not interested in watching more of this senile old mans videos.
look at 0:10 how he looks away from his oponent just before he starts his series of poundings. why does he look away. thats just a show. he is a show-off just like bruce lee was, and u are just swallowing it uncritically.
whats there for me to learn from this old goat, honestly!? :))
@CT2507 You do realize that this is Ip Chun and not Yip Man. They are two different people with two different personalities. Just because someone is a showoff or they are flamboyant doesnt mean you cant learn a thing or two from him. Matter of fact, that red-haired MMA fighter who jumps up and down like a monkey and had a show called bully beatdown is way too over the top but I or anyone can learn a few tricks from him.
@Sephy100 thx for the correction. i thought this was yip man.
but i do find i realy difficult to take people serious when they are showoffs. and the older they are somehow the harder it gets for me. i find showing off to be a sign of immaturity.
@CT2507 Continuing, therefore even if his opponent would strike back, it would be blocked. Please watch other videos, because your incessant rant after watching one video makes you sound like an imbecile.
You have no knowledge in this martial art, and have no other knowledge of the grand master's fights. Please stop trying to comment on things you have no knowledge in, while trying to sound like you do. Good talking to you, ignorant twerp. bye! =)
@DORC101 You're a dumbass. I know who Ip Man was, and his reputation doesn't change the fact that Wing Chun is an ineffective martial art. Even Bruce Lee tried to "fix" it because this patty cake shit doesn't work in real fights.
@elgilicious You truly do not know what ur talking about, first off your trying to say that Wing Chun is an "ineffective martial art", you have to stop attacking different martial arts systems just because you dont understand it. All martial arts have their own benefits
@DORC101 Explain to me the benefits of a martial art in which patty cake is a training method. I've never read in the paper "Wing Chun master patty cakes opponent to clinch world championship." The slappy hands garbage is a waste of time. These guys would get destroyed in the octagon.
@elgilicious No they wouldn't assface. A bunch of guys grabbing eachothers' asses and feeling eachother up is better than so-called patty cake? GTFO you troll
@Sephy100 Assface? Are you 5? And cutting off the circulation to another man's head or slowly dislocating his arm are not even close to resembling your faggot ass fantasy of two men feeling each other up. Yoda and Luke, here, clapping their hands together, however, IS patty cake. See the difference, retard?
@elgilicious You cant see MMA for what it is, men groping eachother and one man on top of another and I'm the retard? Please go back to watching your homosexual fighters while the real men learn how to attack and defend properly. You wish you could come close to the so-called Yoda and Luke.
@Sephy100 Yoda and Luke are slapping each others hands, and they're "real men?" If I walk up to you and choke you out or bend your arm in half, you won't think "this is gay." You'll think "I wish I didn't study wing chun, because I'm getting owned." Wing chun is bullshit, which is why Bruce Lee tried to fix it and came up with what's essentially mixed martial arts. Learn your history, kid.
@elgilicious At what point of y explanation did I mention Bruce Lee?? Learn to read you child. Also if you tried to choke me I'd hit you in your temple. You try to brake my arm, I'll shatter your elbow and then what? Just because you can use brute force doesn't mean you'll win. And stop hiding behind the excuse of oh bruce lee tried to fix it. You cant fix martial arts you can only change it and make sure you include different moves for different situations. Go back to school and learn something
@Sephy100 I mentioned Bruce Lee to explain to your dumb ass that I'm not the only one who thinks Wing Chun is shit. He spent years trying to fix it and came up with JKD. Oh, and cool story bro, but if you came at me with that patty cake crap, I'd just put you in a Thai clinch and break your ribs with my knees. Notice how all the kung-fu guys in the early days of UFC all got smoked? It's because their style is inferior. Karate and TKD are shit, too, if that makes you feel any better.
@elgilicious Dicked what does MMA stand for. Mixed-Martial-Arts. You're saying that Wing Chun is just patty cakes but you fail to realize that it's in the repertoire for your MMA. Stop being some arrogant troll that has no knowledge of the world. So Bruce lee is the only one that practices wing chun. shut the fuck up. there tons of people that practice it. they arent as famous as the ip's or lee but they're just as deadly. Go do what your name says and go get dicked down somewhere
@Sephy100 Sorry, dipshit, but NO MMA fighter does wooden dummy training or other such bullshit b/c the Gracie family, which developed Brazilian Jujitsu, found out that most fights start as slugfests and end w/ ground grappling, not in Mortal Patty Kake Kombat. Once again, learn your history. I also never said Bruce Lee is the only one that practices Wing Chun; I said that he tried to fix it because it was shit in real fights. Your remedial English education is clearly lacking.
@elgilicious MMA uses punching bags. They also use mats and hand held mats( I'm not sure the exact name) to help the fighter with accuracy. Wooden dummies do the same thing. Wooden dummies have "arms" that extend and give you a sense of the many areas that people punch. Bruce Lee didn't fix wing chun, he modified it to his own liking but the core still uses wing chun. And like you said most fights start out as slugfests but a real martial artist wouldn't let it get to a grapple. Stop trolling.
@Sephy100 Um, no. The problem with your "reasoning" is that wing chun attacks (like slappy hands, above) are inherently useless, so it doesn't matter how you train them; you just get really good at patty cake. Breaking boards in karate, same thing. Useless. Jabs, uppercuts, crosses, and other punches, on the other hand, are useful in brawls. Bruce Lee straight up said Wing Chun is too slow, so by changing something with a problem he didn't merely "modify" it, he "fixed" it. Peace, retard.
@algshan I'm not dreaming; it really does look like patty cake. Wing chun doesn't work in real fights; it only looks cool in movies. Sorry, but it's a fact that MMA organizations have proven time and time again.
@elgilicious yet wing chun masters have proven in actual fights that it does work,Watch the wing chun fight quest episodes where they break downthe concepts of the style and show more of a variety of moves used. Then again I have another Idea stop being a keyboard warrior and go fight someone who trains in the style.
@algshan I don't care how much force IN THEORY a wing chun strike can deliver. What matters is how it works in PRACTICE, and in the early years of the UFC, all the kung-fu dipshits got destroyed. To this day, nobody does wing chun in MMA because they'll get killed by all the grapplers and boxers. I have an idea: fight a muay thai expert and see how many ribs he breaks after he absorbs your patty cake punch and knees your torso.
@GrilIedMonkeyFat I said YOU fight them, but on another note I'm asuming that you're saying you some how have the luck to consistantly see real wing chun practicioners, not novices or posers that claim to know a style, fight and lose numerous times. Is that correct, also one thing I realize is that pure tkd artists doesn't go to well against boxers but does that mean its useless? No,cause they can still reconstruct that face of your with a kick.So fighting sports don't define fighting styles.
@GrilIedMonkeyFat Dude thats the typical argument for every street fight because majority of people that claim to be martial artist never had actually had lessons, but i take it the answer to that first question is no and your agrument is therfore fictional kid.
@algshan It's typical argument because it's an excuse. There are renown black belts, and other top martial artists that were beaten. If Ipchun lost would he suddenly be a fake?
@algshan A lot of people say that it is not used in UFC because that's how useless it is. And how it's not effective against other martial arts. What do you think about that?
@tazss159 Not sure if the guy you addressed has answered you yet, but how anyone can say that wing chun is useless is severely mistaken. Bruce lee mentor, ip man, was a wing chun practitioner. Not only that, he used wing chun to fight against the japanese during ww2, pitting only his fists ahainst rifles, submachineguns and pistols, and he survived. So tell me, is wing chun useless or ineffective?
@25151206 Everyone says that a Muay Thai, MMA, or any modern day martial artist would beat the living crap out of a Wing Chun fighter, hence the reason why Wing Chun is not used in the UFC. Also, people say that Bruce Lee didn't really get into any real fights, and that he learned many other styles other then Wing Chun.
@tazss159 Wing chun is an extremely effective martial art, in that it is capable of seriously injuring and even killing the practitioners opponent. Ip man fought against japanese soldiers using wing chun during ww2, and had many duels with other martial artists which he always won. At one time, he witnessed the japanese soldiers shoot one of his friends in the head, and killed 10 japanese soldiers using wing chun.
@tazss159 As for bruce lee, for anyone to say he never got into any real fights, obviously they don't know anything about bruce lee. Before he left hong kong, he was always causing trouble. On one occasion, he broke the ribs of a british guy, and on another occasion, he fought against the triads and destroyed all their drugs. Bruce almost had his back broken, but his friend rushed the triad who was going to do it, and they both fell off the roof and died.
@tazss159 Sure, bruce lee also practised many other forms of martial arts, including western style boxing, but his philosophy is not set to any one style or form. "Running water never gets stale" Bruce lee.
@tazss159 Alot of people would call you stupid for using a statement starting with "A lot of people say" and thinking its a valid arguement also, but does that make it true?Of coarse not,sad part is many of those same people barely know a damn thing about martial arts cause if that did they'd stfu. But just for the lolz I'll issue you the same challenge fight someone who has mastered and when.............I mean if they win drop your theory and respect it's effectiveness.
@algshan LOL dude, I do Wing Chun myself. It's not my "theory", it's just what the general public, and most martial artists nowdays believe. Everyone says Wing Chun is useless compared to other martial arts. And they say, any modern day martial artist would smash a Wing Chun fighter, which is why it isn't used in the UFC.
@tazss159 If you practise wing chun yourself, then you should know that wing chun is extremely effective, especially at close quarters. The mere fact that you are referring to "other people, the general public, and other martial artists" plainly shows to the rest of the world that you're clearly not using your brain and thinking for yourself. This goes against the teachings of wing chun and confucious.
@25151206 It is effective, but it is generally accepted that Wing Chun is inferior to all the other martial arts other there. That's why it's not used in the UFC and people always say that every Wing Chun fighter who founght in the UFC, lost.
@tazss159 So would you say that mano mano, sikaran, dumog and buno fighting techniques are useless because they're not used in mma? What about taekwondo, ninjutsu, kendo or arnis? If that's true, then you really have a limited mind, and I truly feel sorry for you if you do. mma uses only a few martial arts which combine the essentials of each martial art so that the fighter has the tools to perform various moves that are required.
@tazss159 But I can guarantee you, that if someone were to enter mma using only jeet kune do, which uses wing chun as it's primary core, yet mixes other martial arts to obtain full use of range and strength, the the jkd practitioner would undoubtedly win. In fact, I'd dare any mma or ufc fighter to face off against dan inosanto, who trained with bruce lee, and I would bet my money on dan, no matter who the opponent is.
@25151206 I'm just trying to find out why everyone says Wing Chun is so useless, and whether Wing Chun was really proven useless in the UFC. I'm not trying to insult, or put down Wing Chun by any means. So please, don't call me names.
So, was Wing Chun actually proven useless in the UFC? Did some UFC fighters really knock out some Wing Chun fighters? Is Wing Chun useless compared to other martial arts?
@tazss159 Sorry if I called you names, that wasn't my intention. The reason why some people say that wing chun is useless is because they only see wing chun practitioners doing the "sticky hands" technique, which is what you can see in this video. What they don't realise is that this technique is used for developing the practitioners sensitivity, speed and muscle memory when in a close quarters combat situation, and that there is more to wing chun than just "sticky hands"
@25151206 A lot say that Wing Chun was used in MMA once, and it was useless, and Wing Chun fighters were easily knocked out. People who know quite a bit about Wing Chun have also said that it's useless compared to other martial arts.
@tazss159 Maybe that's because a couple of amateur wing chun practitioners were defeated in mma. Now, if there were to be a fight between a wing chun master and someone using mma, I can guarantee you that the result would be different. After all, martial arts is not about which style is better than the other, it's about who fights better.
@25151206 They probably wouldn't have taken some "amateur" Wing Chun fighters, they would've taken fighteres of good skill, to test them. Also, it would't be fair to put a Wing Chun "master" against someone using MMA, it should be a Wing Chun master vs a MMA master. Wing Chun is generally accpeted to be inffective in a real fight, and useless, compared to other martial arts.
a guy slightly bigger and taller than you, is angry ans glaring at you.
He puts up his guard.
Suddenly, in a flash, you blast straight into a chain punch combo, your hands going straight line between his guard, striking his face with 10 or 20 rapidly firing straight punches.
Bleeding from the nose and mouth, dizzy, he staggers while holding his face.
@chrisgrinhard A good Wing Chun fighter would certainly do well against someone who hasn't trained in any martail arts. But not against someone who trains in other martial arts, that's what is generally believed. So Wing Chun is useless compared to other martial arts.
@tazss159 you are just all bullshit man. it depends on the two people fighting and tae kwon doe is a good sport but, im just telling you the teaching of wing chung cant be used in the UFC matches since its against the rules so they have to rely on the teaching of muay thai, judo, and tae kwon doe. if you could do what wing chung is allowed to do in UFC i bet that the matches would go by way faster
@anessone It's not just because of the rules. I've heard the Wing Chun fighters lost to UFC fighters because the WIng Chun techniques are not really effective. There are many forms, threads and articles that state valid points on why Wing Chun is useless. And also, Wing Chun strongest point is right up close, but it's not going to work against someone like a boxer who is trained to keep his distance.
@tazss159 actually wing chung has good way of coming up close and by that i imagine if if you fight a boxer you just keep the center line and wait for him to come ine. when he comes in with a jab deflect a few and let him be comfortable and then move in and chain punch. and if that boxer does go in or does get hit even one. he may god own with 10 more hits. but of course it does have a weakness which would be grappling, not boxers.
@tazss159 i mean every art specialises in either punching, kicking, or grappling. wing chun is punching. even though they do have good kicks too... and also i cant talk to someone who has never tried to actually learn it. because any real martial artist would know that every art has a weakness which is why you learn arts that covers the 4 ranges which are grappling, kicking, punching, and up close
Big deal. I could beat this guy in 90 seconds.

a lot of students dont even look like theyre trying when chi sau with Ip chun, gotta go easy on the grandmaster and all that, this probably pisses him off. No challenge for the man.

I think it's still effective given the circumstances that you happened to break the outer defense and get that close to the opponent. At this point-blank distance, no hand-eye coordination can catch up with that speed. Although I think it's more suitable for a defensive/counter-attack situation.

JosephChiuAus18 2 months ago

VueThao19 2 months ago
@VueThao19 nah a jab can knock a master out aswell,if it hits. There is no way to train your chin or temple to take on enough pressure, you might train it to take about 200 ibs more pressure and that would still be hard thing to do.but we can train to deliver far more power the we can actualy take.the ability to train your finger bone strong enough to break through coconuts.certain areas of the human body are only so trainable, pressure points and gaps between the bone.ive seen jab go for 1600ibs.

ANormalGuy 2 months ago
@ANormalGuy
That's because white guy is not good at fighting. Stick any decent little Mexican boxer in there and old man would be counting the lights, son.
Truth. I know it sucks, because we all want to believe MA is like "magic" but it is not.
InsaneMonkey7 2 months ago
@InsaneMonkey7 Err no, i do not believe its magic, but this man is a grown man and that guy is a nearly, if not already, century old relic.

@mrperson722
I hear what you're saying.
No one is saying that's easy -- but to deny it as a possibility is just plain wrong.
greenrate 2 months ago

DMulah3 3 months ago
you all arre idiots comparing Wing Chun to MMA or UFC.
DMulah3 3 months ago
Wing chun is a combat martial art that was developed to injure and or kill opponents quickly. I learned wing chun when I was younger and still practice it. Its not something you can take to a competition because its too dangerous. If your wondering yes I have used it before and all I can say is that this art is something that should only be used if your life is in danger.
2010nh 3 months ago
In all honesty, what style you use does not matter in a real fight. Ip Chun and other grandmasters of a certain martial arts styles are grandmasters because they have mastered the fundamentals of their style to the highest level and can now use the style most creatively and effectively in any situation. There is no such thing as "one style is better than the other style", rather it is the person who counts. Martial arts is improving oneself and being the best you can...not bashing on styles.

Check where the old guy is punching. He is punching the young guy in the throat. It has nothing to do with mma, where punching someone in the throat is not allowed. at 0:05 he is startled and looses his balance...look at his right arm hanging down usesless. he didnt like that, cause inside although being an old man he is still a kid eager to impress, so to save face he starts pounding on the younger guy! :)
yea, i can see how he is a master. a grandmaster even.
seems to me that all within the martial arts are emotional children. im glad i left that selfcentered scene.
CT2507 3 months ago
@CT2507 i don't think his hand was hanging down "uselessly", but because he didn't need it at the time. If you take a closer look, he had locked down both the other guy's hands with one arm. I think you've read too deeply into the situation, and have come up with some interesting psycological phenomenon which may or may not have to do with your own self-centered view on life and your own "accomplishments", or lack there-of.
crossout9 3 months ago
@crossout9 well that just shows that u are blind then and dont want to see what your eyes are telling u.
he is definetly surprised, and his ballance is broken at 0:05. he needs to take a step back to regain his ballancet. which shows lack of control and surprise.
if the attacker had used that small window of oportunity with a quick follow through, he had a good half second to send ip to the floor. a good facepalm would at that point have been sufficient... or a strong push!
CT2507 3 months ago
@CT2507 Well, if you would look at his other videos, there isn't any difference between this spar and any other. He consistently uses one hand against opponents, and quite often strikes back. And no doubt your hypothesizing of attacks the other person could've used are quite valid in your hypothetical mind, in the real world, the grand master of wing chun has extremely good body structure, and I highly doubt he would be "sent to the floor".
crossout9 3 months ago
@crossout9 as i said. once his ballance is broken, which it is at 0:05, a strong and quick push would have been suficient to uproot him completley. it doesnt matter what u think of his other videos. this video is enough.
also once he starts pounding away in the same spot like an imbecile, he is already creating a pattern. after the second blow from him its easy for even a half decent oponent to anticipate and intercept.
the only reason it doesnt happen is because of exagerated respect!
CT2507 3 months ago
@CT2507 You have a very valid point, but remember this guy is nearing ancient, though he may be a grandmaster, age will always take a toll on the mental state, reaction time, and especially alertness, that would be my explanation for why he was so startled and unreceptive when the other guy attacked. Maybe he was a "true grandmaster" in his prime but we'll never know now... That's my take on this.
Arbiter1231 3 months ago
@Arbiter1231 thanks... good to hear from someone who isnt impressed with everything "shiny".

CT2507 3 months ago
@CT2507 Wait didn't Ip Man teach Bruce lee? I thought Ip Chun had nothing to do with him. Ip man was the real deal.
Arbiter1231 3 months ago
@CT2507 You obviously haven't seen, nor care to look at other videos. Your lack of knowledge renders your argument moot, and your disinterest in educating yourself makes this conversation useless. Last Point: Having studied wing chun, and knowing the stress on creating a strong body structure, the grand master wouldn't be put off *balance*, and this exercise, chi sau, is the practice of anticipation of attacks, blocking, and counterattacks.
crossout9 3 months ago
@crossout9 hahaha.. your calling this crap education, renders your brain jouvenile and stupid! :)
ofcourse im not interested in watching more of this senile old mans videos.
look at 0:10 how he looks away from his oponent just before he starts his series of poundings. why does he look away. thats just a show. he is a show-off just like bruce lee was, and u are just swallowing it uncritically.
whats there for me to learn from this old goat, honestly!? :))
CT2507 3 months ago
@CT2507 You do realize that this is Ip Chun and not Yip Man. They are two different people with two different personalities. Just because someone is a showoff or they are flamboyant doesnt mean you cant learn a thing or two from him. Matter of fact, that red-haired MMA fighter who jumps up and down like a monkey and had a show called bully beatdown is way too over the top but I or anyone can learn a few tricks from him.

Learn your history, kid.
elgilicious 3 months ago
@elgilicious At what point of y explanation did I mention Bruce Lee?? Learn to read you child. Also if you tried to choke me I'd hit you in your temple. You try to brake my arm, I'll shatter your elbow and then what? Just because you can use brute force doesn't mean you'll win. And stop hiding behind the excuse of oh bruce lee tried to fix it. You cant fix martial arts you can only change it and make sure you include different moves for different situations. Go back to school and learn something
Sephy100 3 months ago
@Sephy100 I mentioned Bruce Lee to explain to your dumb ass that I'm not the only one who thinks Wing Chun is shit. He spent years trying to fix it and came up with JKD. Oh, and cool story bro, but if you came at me with that patty cake crap, I'd just put you in a Thai clinch and break your ribs with my knees. Notice how all the kung-fu guys in the early days of UFC all got smoked? It's because their style is inferior. Karate and TKD are shit, too, if that makes you feel any better.
elgilicious 3 months ago
@elgilicious Dicked what does MMA stand for. Mixed-Martial-Arts. You're saying that Wing Chun is just patty cakes but you fail to realize that it's in the repertoire for your MMA. Stop being some arrogant troll that has no knowledge of the world. So Bruce lee is the only one that practices wing chun. shut the fuck up. there tons of people that practice it. they arent as famous as the ip's or lee but they're just as deadly. Go do what your name says and go get dicked down somewhere
Sephy100 3 months ago
@Sephy100 Sorry, dipshit, but NO MMA fighter does wooden dummy training or other such bullshit b/c the Gracie family, which developed Brazilian Jujitsu, found out that most fights start as slugfests and end w/ ground grappling, not in Mortal Patty Kake Kombat. Once again, learn your history. I also never said Bruce Lee is the only one that practices Wing Chun; I said that he tried to fix it because it was shit in real fights. Your remedial English education is clearly lacking.
elgilicious 3 months ago
@elgilicious MMA uses punching bags. They also use mats and hand held mats( I'm not sure the exact name) to help the fighter with accuracy. Wooden dummies do the same thing. Wooden dummies have "arms" that extend and give you a sense of the many areas that people punch. Bruce Lee didn't fix wing chun, he modified it to his own liking but the core still uses wing chun. And like you said most fights start out as slugfests but a real martial artist wouldn't let it get to a grapple. Stop trolling.
Sephy100 3 months ago
@Sephy100 Um, no. The problem with your "reasoning" is that wing chun attacks (like slappy hands, above) are inherently useless, so it doesn't matter how you train them; you just get really good at patty cake. Breaking boards in karate, same thing. Useless. Jabs, uppercuts, crosses, and other punches, on the other hand, are useful in brawls. Bruce Lee straight up said Wing Chun is too slow, so by changing something with a problem he didn't merely "modify" it, he "fixed" it. Peace, retard.

@elgilicious yup wing chun is useless intill somebody breaks out a chain punch lol, keep dreamin dude the style is awesome
algshan 3 months ago
@algshan I'm not dreaming; it really does look like patty cake. Wing chun doesn't work in real fights; it only looks cool in movies. Sorry, but it's a fact that MMA organizations have proven time and time again.
elgilicious 3 months ago
@elgilicious yet wing chun masters have proven in actual fights that it does work,Watch the wing chun fight quest episodes where they break downthe concepts of the style and show more of a variety of moves used. Then again I have another Idea stop being a keyboard warrior and go fight someone who trains in the style.
algshan 3 months ago 5
@algshan I don't care how much force IN THEORY a wing chun strike can deliver. What matters is how it works in PRACTICE, and in the early years of the UFC, all the kung-fu dipshits got destroyed. To this day, nobody does wing chun in MMA because they'll get killed by all the grapplers and boxers. I have an idea: fight a muay thai expert and see how many ribs he breaks after he absorbs your patty cake punch and knees your torso.
elgilicious 3 months ago
@algshan I've seen wingchun guys lose numerous times in street fights, and in mma rings. So.......... it doesn't
GrilIedMonkeyFat 3 months ago
@GrilIedMonkeyFat I said YOU fight them, but on another note I'm asuming that you're saying you some how have the luck to consistantly see real wing chun practicioners, not novices or posers that claim to know a style, fight and lose numerous times. Is that correct, also one thing I realize is that pure tkd artists doesn't go to well against boxers but does that mean its useless? No,cause they can still reconstruct that face of your with a kick.So fighting sports don't define fighting styles.

@algshan It's typical argument because it's an excuse. There are renown black belts, and other top martial artists that were beaten. If Ipchun lost would he suddenly be a fake?

tazss159 3 months ago
@tazss159 Not sure if the guy you addressed has answered you yet, but how anyone can say that wing chun is useless is severely mistaken. Bruce lee mentor, ip man, was a wing chun practitioner.

But just for the lolz I'll issue you the same challenge fight someone who has mastered and when.............I mean if they win drop your theory and respect it's effectiveness.
algshan 3 months ago
@algshan LOL dude, I do Wing Chun myself. It's not my "theory", it's just what the general public, and most martial artists nowdays believe. Everyone says Wing Chun is useless compared to other martial arts. And they say, any modern day martial artist would smash a Wing Chun fighter, which is why it isn't used in the UFC.
tazss159 3 months ago
@tazss159 If you practise wing chun yourself, then you should know that wing chun is extremely effective, especially at close quarters. The mere fact that you are referring to "other people, the general public, and other martial artists" plainly shows to the rest of the world that you're clearly not using your brain and thinking for yourself. This goes against the teachings of wing chun and confucious.
25151206 3 months ago

25151206 3 months ago

Is Wing Chun useless compared to other martial arts?
tazss159 3 months ago
@tazss159 Sorry if I called you names, that wasn't my intention. The reason why some people say that wing chun is useless is because they only see wing chun practitioners doing the "sticky hands" technique, which is what you can see in this video. What they don't realise is that this technique is used for developing the practitioners sensitivity, speed and muscle memory when in a close quarters combat situation, and that there is more to wing chun than just "sticky hands"

@25151206 A lot say that Wing Chun was used in MMA once, and it was useless, and Wing Chun fighters were easily knocked out. People who know quite a bit about Wing Chun have also said that it's useless compared to other martial arts.
tazss159 2 months ago
@tazss159 Maybe that's because a couple of amateur wing chun practitioners were defeated in mma. Now, if there were to be a fight between a wing chun master and someone using mma, I can guarantee you that the result would be different. After all, martial arts is not about which style is better than the other, it's about who fights better.
25151206 2 months ago
@25151206 They probably wouldn't have taken some "amateur" Wing Chun fighters, they would've taken fighteres of good skill, to test them. Also, it would't be fair to put a Wing Chun "master" against someone using MMA, it should be a Wing Chun master vs a MMA master. Wing Chun is generally accpeted to be inffective in a real fight, and useless, compared to other martial arts.

@tazss159 imagine you are in an argument.
a guy slightly bigger and taller than you, is angry ans glaring at you.
He puts up his guard.
Suddenly, in a flash, you blast straight into a chain punch combo, your hands going straight line between his guard, striking his face with 10 or 20 rapidly firing straight punches.
Bleeding from the nose and mouth, dizzy, he staggers while holding his face.
now, WING CHUN is USELESS?????????
chrisgrinhard 2 months ago
@chrisgrinhard A good Wing Chun fighter would certainly do well against someone who hasn't trained in any martail arts. But not against someone who trains in other martial arts, that's what is generally believed. So Wing Chun is useless compared to other martial arts.
tazss159 2 months ago
@tazss159 you are just all bullshit man. it depends on the two people fighting and tae kwon doe is a good sport but, im just telling you the teaching of wing chung cant be used in the UFC matches since its against the rules so they have to rely on the teaching of muay thai, judo, and tae kwon doe. if you could do what wing chung is allowed to do in UFC i bet that the matches would go by way faster
anessone 2 months ago
@anessone It's not just because of the rules. I've heard the Wing Chun fighters lost to UFC fighters because the WIng Chun techniques are not really effective. There are many forms, threads and articles that state valid points on why Wing Chun is useless. And also, Wing Chun strongest point is right up close, but it's not going to work against someone like a boxer who is trained to keep his distance.
tazss159 2 months ago
@tazss159 actually wing chung has good way of coming up close and by that i imagine if if you fight a boxer you just keep the center line and wait for him to come ine. when he comes in with a jab deflect a few and let him be comfortable and then move in and chain punch. and if that boxer does go in or does get hit even one. he may god own with 10 more hits. but of course it does have a weakness which would be grappling, not boxers.
anessone 2 months ago
@tazss159 i mean every art specialises in either punching, kicking, or grappling. wing chun is punching. even though they do have good kicks too... and also i cant talk to someone who has never tried to actually learn it. because any real martial artist would know that every art has a weakness which is why you learn arts that covers the 4 ranges which are grappling, kicking, punching, and up close
