Actually, The Monkees were originally actors playing a pop/rock band but became a REAL POP/ROCK BAND after their TV series became so popular! Davy Jones was instrumental in 'The Monkees' becoming real pop/rock band because of his singing talent...Like Whitney Houston, Davy Jones was 'gone too soon' and will be sorely missed by millions, if not billions, of people around the world...RIP Davy Jones!
This sounds like Tommy Boyce & Bobby Hart singing a demo of their song. Who exactly is singing on this audio? I really love the original, but this is really interesting. Does anyone else recognize Boyce & Hart?
@wombchakra the original version had boyce & hart on vocals. there is a byrds like version of i wanna be free with davy jones and mickey dolenz on lead vocals on the missing links 3 CD
Great rare song by Boyce and Hart/The Monkees although I had to turn the volume on the computer I'm using to the MAX to hear this track clearly...Great example of a 'lost oldie'....
@grosskopf2 Sorry I called you a noob - had to get it out, and by the way, you're referring to the TV version of the pilot episode. This episode was taken from a film strip, converted to mp4 format.
Sounds like it's done in the style of I'm Free by the Rolling Stones.

OK, so you don't like this rendition...however, it is being sung by the GUYS WHO WROTE IT, so cut some slack here...LOL

I remember a version of this version playing at the very end of the ending credits in the later shows (that I re-watched much later)...
