Those thermal optics cannot see tanks equipped with IR Fillament Projectile Smoke Grenades. It's not plain smoke that is being launched. There are metallic fillaments and projectiles also being launched in the smoke cloud thus concealing the actual tank.

@108Dax You may think so, but a fast human loader can actually load more rounds per minute than an autoloader. There are other disadvantages of autoloader such as carrying less rounds because the machinery takes up a good amount of space.

I suspect there's a good reason the best tanks in the world (M1, Cr2, Leo2) all have manual loading.

@OlderG0ds I think it might also be that the loading is what makes a tank a dangerous weapon. If the loader hardware jams on a battlefield then the tank becomes an well-armored troop carrier. I think it might be a mix between hardware size and that the hardware can fail.

@OlderG0ds you're right, besides what about computer or electrical failures these things happens even in modern systems, for these and other reasons no computer can replace a human being or even in the battlefied, the advantage of this system is the saving of manpower.

@OlderG0ds nope, leclerc autoloader unit only take up space no larger then your average kitchen cabinet. While to fit human loader, you need extra room the size of a toilet cubicle.

the peri to gun and gun to peri is actualy taken from the m1a2. still the us and germany had alot of knowlege sharing in tank design. so i love the leo2 and m1 series of tanks. both extremly well desiged... exept for the m1s engine ugh :(

step 1: put a tank on a high terrain or hill

step 2: make sure your tank can fire in a high angle

step 3: when a fighter jet comes in, hit it as fast as you can before it escapes

@OlderG0ds There is no mechanical or technical limit that would not allow a tank to shoot down a fighter jet. I've tracked a Hornet with a CV90's Fire control system... Lucky for them, it was just an exercise.

All a tank really needs is an "AA mode", where the rangefinder keeps updating its distance information which is then used to predict the movement of the aircraft. Of course the hit probability with just one round sounds ridiculously small, but as for example the Otomatic SPAAG and naval guns of up to 120 mm have shown, it's completely feasible.

i rather create a cheap but very fast tanks~ althought could not match the tanks like abrams but abrams only have a small amount at its dispose. if you have 5 abrams i shall use 20 very fast tanks and charge at you and hit you in point blank range or out flank you~ since they say that tank which are faster are harder to hit in this show~

@HortonofDOOM Yes the hole is pretty small think of those AP rounds like an arrow, long and skinny and lots of force concentrated into a small area. Pokes a hole in it and sprays molten hot metal usually killing most/all of the crew.

@johnyjoe2 Armor Piercing Discarding Sabot (APDS) was developed in France before 1940. After France fell those engineers who created it were evacuated to Britain and there joined and improved it for British guns.

But I think Germany is technically the first to make modern sabots they used in AA guns. I don't know who used them first in tanks.

@goliathlup1 EMP? I don't think that is a realistic threat at this point. Very complicated and expensive to make non-nuclear EMP weapons, which has poor range and delivery method.

And yes have some protection against EMP, at least the Leopard 2, Challenger 2 and M1 Abrams do.. They have NBC (nuclear, biological, chemical) protection systems and the Abrams electronics are lined with heavy lead to further protect against EMP.
