  • What a delight to hear this recording.

  • GIGOLETTE is a great bit of theremin history! In 1948, there was an article in the HOLLYWOOD CITIZEN NEWS in which thereminist Samuel Hoffman publicly refuted claims that the theremin was controlled by "thought waves". A lot of misunderstanding and rumor surrounded the instrument in those days.

What Lucie Rosen lacked in theremin virtuosity she made up for in enthusiasm and financial support for the instrument.

  • "This instrument is played by passing a wand through two beams of light, breaking the circuit of the two electric eyes."

Not even close. This instrument is played by interacting with the capacitive fields surrounding two metal rods extending from the instrument.

  • The electric eye explanation was from an Muncie, Indiana newspaper article and it was annotated as such in the endnotes of my earlier published articles. I have added that inserted that annotation on the description of this video. You are the first one to make a comment. Sorry you did not like the video.

  • I liked the video fine. Not the best theremin playing in the world, but an interesting bit of theremin history.

    :-)
