This was the only good ep of Galatica 1980. I got to see my hero Starbuck. That's what mattered. Shame they couldn't have gotten Starbuck to Earth. The chicks would have gone wild.
No one shouldn't compare the two starbucks frankly she (the new one) always made me think of what maybe starbucks kid might have been like... but the new one was just just a desire to put our world into a cyborg suit of sorts making the world of these out worlders parallel to our own (and in the end our supposed progenitors) stupid and so dumb that even my own kids don't like the SY-FY of this time frame my daughter saw the classic The Day the Earth stood still and then said she would even see
It was absolutely a slap in the face to Dirk Benedict and Starbuck! That in the new series making him a woman! God that show could not have been anymore PC if it tried! One of the greatest examples of what is wrong with hollywood and America today!Just because of that BS move alone I could not bring myself to even watch the pile of felgerkarb! it sucked! I guess the younger generation of males is use to having women in the dominate role! LOL since Oprah de-balled The American male in the 80"S
@ScorpiusGod WOW. You are a dick bag.. I don't even have to explain.. You're comment says it all. You don't even seem like a troll which would give you SOME kind of excuse.
@LLEBNAX Wow you must be some kind of pathetic loser bThats why you could not explain just insult!!Keep the flags of Lilith I mean your god Oprah waving. I wonder are you one of her converted de-balled males are just part of her lesbian army! LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL ! Etheir way it does not matter! Kind of like you and your opinion! LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL What was the term u used'" Dick-bag" Is that something you hold your boyfriends balls in or where your girlfriend stores yours! LOL LOL LOL LOL
By far and with out a doubt . This was not only the best show of Galactica 1980. It was the only good one! Probably one of the best episodes from both shows! Though I must say kind of broke my heart to see Starbuck stranded alone on that planet. Without even his buddy CY to play cards with! Not a very fitting end for a hero Of Starbucks caliber.
the people involved in the new BSG didn't want just a rehash of the original series. the new series is totally different from the original. people shouldn't really compare the two.
Yes, in the end "Cy", as Starbuck called him, helped Starbuck by blasting two of three more Cylons that came looking for the missing Centurion. Starbuck was able to blast one, but "Cy" took a laser blast that "killed" him. Best exchange was right near the end -
Starbuck: One human. One Cylon!
"Cy": No, Starbuck. Not human. Not Cylon. FRIENDS.
I never even bothered watching the new re-imagined series since the character of Starbuck was made into a female. Hollywood has gotten so damn liberal.
I remember when this episode was shown in the early 80's in the UK as part of the Battlestar Galactica series. It wasn't part of that series. I remember seeing "Conquest of the Earth" around the same time. It was a really poor. I think it was the pilot to Galactica 80. It is a shame they didn't take the original series further. The remodelled Galactica was brilliant apart from the end. Caprica looks really good as well and look I forward to that series.
Its a shame this was the last episode. People remember that they found Earth, but forget they never got to settle here. They found out they had led the Cylons here & had to prevent them from detecting Earth. Galactica 1980 ended with the fleet retreating from our solar system to lead the Cylons away & thinking they may never be able to return here. The show was going to send them back into space & have flashback episodes with the original cast, explaining their fate. Coulda been good.
This is the last episode of the second series Galactica 1980. It's on DVD under that title. The show took place a decade later. Adama finds Earth & sends scouts to investigate, but is forced to return the fleet to deep space when he learnes that the Cylons secretly tracked them to Earth, to destroy it. This episode is Return of Starbuck. It's flashback episode that takes place after the first show. Many fans, who even dislike Galactica 1980, consider it the best episode of both series.
Don't forget, folks, Galactica 1980 eventually gave us Quantum Leap. The basic premise of Galactica 1980 was originally to be Apollo back in time to stop Baltar from altering Earth's past, while Starbuck flew back and forth between the present and past, giving advice. Donald Bellisario later expanded the idea into Quantum Leap.
Interesting premise. Well, most of Galactica 1980 was pure vegetable & flower - growing MERDE, at least they used it to grow something more worthwhile & w / more plot & character development.
I KNOW this comment is going to come back to bite me.
You guys let nostalgia dictate your opinions way too much. I liked the new BSG, but get this: I don't like friends, go to starbucks OR dream of living in New York.
i really dont see how Starbuck is stranded,in one episode he and Apollo stole a Raider from a base ship to escape so he would been able to fly the one the 3 cylons left,i remeber thinking it the first itme i watched it as a kid, still they Fucked the whole series up with Galactica 1980 anyway so couldnt really wxpect them to do it right,or they might have done it who knows got cancelled right after this one,
Starbuck was stranded on a planet with two tin cans? Wow. Similar thing happened in the new series. Except Kara Thrace had to climb into Cylon innards to get home.
@mkPraetorian Yes and one of the best characters ever written! To bad they destroyed the character by going all PC and shit!! By given some broad a pair! But here pair just did not swing low enough to pull that character off! Sorry no woman could ever fill Starbucks shoes!
GREAT NEWS STARBUCK WAS NOT STRANDED HE DID ESCAPE in the cylon ship that landed with the 3 clylons. In the last scene those 3 cylons landed in their own ship which must have been in perfect condition. Neither Starbuck or the good cylon destroyed it. It was clearly evident in the background when the 3 cylons marched towards starbucks campsite. In other words Starbuck was NOT stranded as we were lead to believe. I want make the point that he was able to escape using the undamaged cylon ship !!!
This was Dick Benedict's last and final appearance as Lt. Starbuck on the newer and later seasons of the original 'Galactica series. This one shows him marooned on an uncharted planet along with the Cylons he shot down before in a earlier battle in space. The story goes he reactivates one of the Cylons (names him Cy) for company, a strange woman claims he is the father of her baby (after all the babes, he ends up with this hosebeast!), saves the baby, but stays stuck forever. What a way to go!
I totally agree with you, spacecase7000. And why not? They've already got Richard Hatch (Who played the original "Apollo" in the old camp) making several appearances on the new show. Dirk Benedict would rock!
yeah that'd be cool, like a really distant flashback (lets face it it's too late in the franchise to give him a full blown part) or could they tie him in as Starbuck for a serious twist, putting paid to the phrase "this has all happened before and it'll happen again"
Actually this is the 2nd series "Galactica 1980" and this was the last episode OF G1980 entitled "The Return Of Starbuck" Alot of people believe this was the best episode out of the WHOLE Galactica 1980 genre
Well, being a fan of the original series, and now a huge fan of the 2003 remake, I'm glad they made Starbuck a girl. Because let's face it. Starbuck(girl) doesn't play, yeah she'll joke and flirt with you, but piss her off and she will cut your throat out or shoot you in the face. Plus, the overall story is intense, raw, and compelling.
It's an ensemble cast: the fact that Starbuck is a woman is tangentially important: you could just as easily comment that they made Tigh an elderly white man.
Of course, the original was the best. Don't know why they both with the new one, or even why they thing they can put the label on it when it's so not like the original. What they really need to do now is a movie or tv mini series of the original cast finding Earth - 30 years on.
This is the pussyfication of America. Starbuck is a woman. Most action heroes are now women.
Han Solo is no girl. Its a sign of the politically correct times. Today, John Wayne is a guy who got his penis chopped off. Let me tell you something. The real John Wayne wouldnt have let some crazy spanish chick cut off his penis!!!!!!

Well I don't fully agree, making Starbuck a woman was a fcked up move imo.
Yet the new BSG is a lot darker and moodier, but a shame the music isn't as upbeat and other-wordl
I think the old BSG is more high-concept and 'out there' with the ancient gods observing and stuff.
