  • She sings the beginning a lot better than many baritones !! Just fabulous

  • What a range!!!!!Hats off to the mezzos!!!!!!!!

  • This was different! I loved it! that is what makes it unique

  • Ima takav raspon glasa....

  • So exquisite!! Bravo Denyse, a very wonderful arrangement, I loved it, wonderful to hear your beautiful voice, thank you.

  • She really have a beautiful voice ! she's one of the best mezzo all over the world ! and she's a magic personn and my favorite star !!!! Fan from Paris !

  • I agree, don't listen to the critics. Can they do any better!!! Enrica

  • Great diversity of feelings despite two simple words sung :) I love the second half more

  • I was blown away when I first heard Denyce sing this song. I absolutely love the version of Vavilov's (mistakenly known as Caccini's) Ave Maria; and Denyce brought it alive for me. I also agree with the comment about Lys Agnes...WOW! Denyce! I hope you don't ever pay attention to the raunchy comments that have been made. I don't think they understand what a truly magnificent voice you have. Thank you for being there for all of us!

  • She can't sing this song at all

  • @diamondmoney007 I disagree!

  • I disagree that this version is horrible as some say. It is different.

  • Wow what a vocal range she has! I just heard Lys Agnes sing a small part of it search her name here. I assure you Lys will soon be on her way to stardom.

  • I'm not fond of the arrangement, but I am IN LOVE with Denyce Graves! I imagine the same voices of angels carrying me to heaven.

  • Consciously or unconsciously, she sings the Ave Maria true to her African cultural heritage!

  • @Nonie46

You mean African-American. African is very different from A.A. :)

  • What a horrible and disgusting performing! It destroys this beautiful song :(

  • @leveluz Your saying it cuz she is black !!

  • @midnightrose414 For me, it's the same if she's black, white or red haired. The version is horrible. Vladimir Vavilov (the real composer of this beautiful song) would agree with me.

  • breathtaking!!!! amazing!

  • I saw her in Baton Rouge also. She was breathtaking.

  • @scjones3 I live there !

  • I just met her!!! She performed with Richard Troxell and The Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra. Listening to her sing was like a breath of fresh air.

  • @Bucs09 I WAS THERE!!!

  • wow fabulous singer what a lady!

  • Beautifull!!!

  • when ever I here this song it make me get the tingles. When I here songs like this one i wish that i had a mezzo-sopranos rang. But lass i am a baritone- tenor vocal rang.

  • Parfait!

  • What a beautiful woman! What a magnificent singer! Absolutely stunning. Bravo!

  • Amazing range!!

  • Finally, someone other than a glass shattering soprano is singing this song, I love Denyce!

  • She is very beautiful however, I would have to say that she is no Leontyne Price. No offense- her voice is beautifully trained, but that residual timber of Price's is not there.

  • her vocal range is so wide... she sang this song in the most unique way, yet captivating... simply amazing!

  • I just love this rendition..... Godspeed Deniece!!!!

    Bravo!!!! Bravo!!!!!

    ......awashingtonwoman

  • SHITTTTTTTTT Too amazing to be true!

  • I LOVE DENYCE I WANT MORE VIDEOS OF HER AMAINZING VOICE

  • I LOVE DENYCE I WISH MORE VIDEOS OF THIS DARK AND BEAUTY VOICE

  • Sing man !

  • I really despise this arrangement but. This woman is chocolate sex even when she is singing about the Madonna.

  • Wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow... How low can you go???

  • Omg This made me cry! soooo beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!! the most beautiful thing i have ever heard. Im a mezzo too. Where can I find the score for this?!!!! Please someone tell me before I explode.

  • ii love thiis!! it has such a beautiful classical sound with a slight R&B vibe to it!!

  • Catalin Josan si Nicolae Voiculet - Ave Maria

Catalin Josan si Nicolae Voiculet(Romania) - Ave Maria (Caccini) live

  • I love this version so so so much! I love Sumi's as well. Both women are gifted but Denyce is the Diva that inspires me.

  • what's with the loooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww key?

  • she is awsome

  • What a voice, figure, what beauty... too.. The woman has it going on.. Gorgeous voice... I mean gorgeous.

  • A true contralto of the finest sort. This is a very rare voice seldom found among opera singers. She must be appreciated in her own right without unnecessary comparisons with her to sopranos. She is NOT a soprano, yet she has the talent, and ability to soar to the soprano register with ease. Her voice and singing is majestic, dignified, and exquisite. So making comparisons with any of the great sopranos that have also sung this most beautiful and classic aria is to compare apples with oranges.

  • @Ettenyl56 She isn't a Contralto. She is a Mezzo-Soprano, I have worked with her before.

  • Brava!

  • at first i thought she was contralto O__O

wow, awesome range she has a wide range!

  • @nightmarelab

    Mezzo-Soprano

  • simply beautiful!!!!!

  • She didn't let a voice teacher ruin her.

  • @roadlizard123

LOL. Why do you say this ?

Explain us your point a view, it should be interesting !

  • amazing!!!!!!!!!!

  • Interesting melody. Sounds a bit like "All the Things You Are" (Jerome Kern) and "When October Goes" (Barry Manilow).

  • @carotamia Caccini did not write this....do your homework. A popular misunderstanding is one thing ....but inexcusable if you are going to criticize. p s I do agree the harmonic sequence is rather twee.

  • Beautiful!!!

  • Caccini must have had a bad dream when he wrote this piece. A stupid scale of boring tonal sequences - sounds like a clip from a 3rd rate off Broadway musical.

What a great instrument though - Denyce Graves - and a gorgeous lady as well.

  • @carotamia Caccini did not write this....do your homework. A popular misunderstanding is one thing ....but inexcusable if you are going to criticize.

  • .

    The best "Ave-Maria" -- Okulova

  • @TheMrVasily the best Caccini ave maria:David DQ Lee!!!!!!

  • Denyce Graves is wonderful- and I love deep low voices on women- Marian Anderson was able to go really low on Schubert`s Der Tod und das Mädchen, but here beautiful Denyce Graves reaches to the lowest notes I`ve heard in that voice quality with any female opera singer.

  • Mrs. Grace, from your fan here in Brazil.

Never forget your perfomance in Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro, Verdi`s Requiem. Simply Superb!!!!!

    God bless you,

  • What a range!

  • wow doesnt sound like a mezzo soprano to me! that is an alto 100%

  • @elm268 A mezzo-soprano (meaning "medium" or "middle" "soprano" in Italian) is a type of classical female singing voice whose range lies between the soprano and the contralto singing voices, usually extending from the A below middle C to the A two octaves above (i.e. A3-A5 in scientific pitch notation, where middle C = C4). In the lower and upper extremes, some mezzo-sopranos may extend down to the G below middle C (G3) and as high as "high C" (C6)

  • @leamorena89 i understand the meaning of mezzo-soprano, thank you. I'm a mezzo. I've already taken my pedagogy class in school, I don't need a text book definition of something I know very well without your help. She sounds like an alto to me. And yes, I know the definition of an alto. Thanks.

  • Moving. Ms. Graves is superb, I now know that she can "groove" too. Aurally and visually beautiful experience. Thanks!

  • What a range!! Good grief.

  • Superb!

  • Absolutely gorgeous!

  • I love how everybody is a critic on here! I bet she really cares about what you all have to say!

  • @Keizer76 Im sure she does care moron,,, we're the ones that buy her CD'S and concerts..... She is not singing in the shower dummy,, so we do have so say

  • @diamondmoney007 Keep telling yourself that Idiot! She is probably losing sleep over you hating on her on youtube because what you have to say make ALL the difference. Get a life..

  • Me too...Me too!

  • didnt she cover like 3 octaves or more?

  • She is a beautiful woman ....She's voice is sweet and powerfull...are an ANGEL....BEAUTIFUL

  • Ive never heard someone sing that low before...who was a woman @ least! It was good.

    This is the Remix, obvi.

  • Low C, I know!

  • actually this piece is higher anyway. check out sumi jo ;)

  • Incredible version!!!

    And incredible beauty!!!

  • Her range is outstanding!!

  • @bambisince1988 agreed..this concert also included a duet with Patti labelle and an encore with Patti, too....great..

  • Gorgeous. Simply gorgeous.

  • just fantastic!!!!!

  • If you are looking for the traditional version, then no doubt this will disappoint you. And yet it offers one an alternative to experience. If all our experiences had to be exactly the same how dull life would be. Yes, it sounds like a different song and yet it is no less magnificent. I don't understand the intense vitriol when there is difference. This version is this rendition and for all commenting and reading .... may peace be with you... God bless.

  • This is great!!!

  • She sounds amazing and her range is incredible. The arrangement is creative. This is what music is about. Being creative, showing off your abilities that we are blessed with, feeling and having fun about the music. The most important thing is to giving a message using this art form. Love it .

  • her voice is amazing point blank she did not go flat lol

  • i kinda think she is a bit flat on some parts but i think that adds to her appeal. i really feel she tries to mix opera and jazz together. this girl got range....

  • I think this version has a R&B and African-American Comtemporary gospel feel to it. I'm not an expert obviously but I do sing opera and African-American gospel. I feel that she was a little to low in the begining, but I still loved it b/c it was very different. She stands out in a good way and I like that about her. she is an inspiration to all young women but especially to African-American girls. Kudos to you Denyce!

  • I have listened to all the beautiful versions of Ave Maria there are on Youtube, and this one touches me most! Not as soft or as pure as some of the others, but way more expressive!

  • no need for the horrible choir and the drums... i like her high range... but she goes flat sometimes.... otherwise nice...

  • Oh, how easy to criticise and dissect a singer in tiny little pieces... I am going to listen to Her sing This Ave Maria and learn from her... and in the process if I sing it Half as good as she does, I'll be in heaven... This is not an easy song to sing... Long notes, big breath... Madame, Beautiful, You touched my soul. Bravo.

  • whoops! i clicked the wrong button! THUMBS UP ALL THE WAY! Totally agree with everything you said! She's a star for a reason- let's learn from her as we sit behind our computer screens...instead of having superiority complexes and whatnot!

  • Yeah, you guys have a lot of whatnot.

  • WTF? why the background people have to mess up the masterpiece in the making? Also way too many instruments??? This is so stupid. I feel very sorry for her. I think who ever directed this better apologize to her for messing up her voice.

Sumi Jo version is still my favorite. But I will say she is still close second though I think she is more of Mezzo Soprano than a Soprano w/ a broad range of notes.

  • yah i think they over did it with the instruments and they def didn't need that chorus there. some things are better left untouched- classical! SUMI rocks! she totally owned this song! check out her performance of ich liebe dich.

  • I think the chorus added to it nicely but I understand what you mean :)

  • There was a full hour interview of her done by Angela Basset on KCSM. She's a very gracious, well poised, interestingly funny lady.

  • Beautiful...I love her voice and her range... And she's so pretty!!! I'm amazed.

  • Sounds like a man. I guess that is what you call range?

  • She doesn't sound like a man...

  • ...Sounds like a man. I guess that is what you call range?...

LMBO!! She does sound a little like a man though ...no kidding.

  • Actually, I thought the same thing in the beginning. But after few seconds later.. Dude, how come I've not heard of her till now?

  • I love her.

her range is amazing and she is sooo beautiful.

  • Impresionante!!! magnífico, que excelente voz tiene esta mujer!

  • She's got Contralto range....

  • this is so angelic...made the hairs on the back of my necks stand up

  • Her way of doing Ave Maria this way sounds unique and even impressive.

  • Her range is sick!!! Gotta love mezzos

  • Though credited to Caccini, this Ave Maria was in fact composed in 1972 by Vlad. Vavilov , russian guitarist and lute master. Hence it is why this song has a very Hollywood or modern film score kind of sound. Imagine arranging a tune like this in late 1500's. In fact, Caccini never did do an Ave Maria...true story

  • Comment removed

  • how does that sound flat? it sounds amazing :)

  • Comment removed

  • Why not?

  • I don't know. Vavilov published the song "anonymous". I'll try and find a link with info. There are other music composers who have done similar, one can only guess why they choose this path..

  • i just keep, listening and listening, gosh her low register is more powerful than mine jajaja, and i'm a tenor jajaja... she's got and amazing instrument, plus you don't see quite often black singers in opera... love this girl

  • i know right!!

  • it's a way of saying man, it is clear that she can't be more powerful than me in th middle and low notes, as i won't be able to hit the high ones like she does, she's a mezzo, but for woman tha it's not a contralto, hit those notes with such control, trust me, it isn't easy for a man, let's figured out for a lady,... don't wanna make a sex battle here XD, but it's true

  • o. ok. but i was agreeing with your last statement.

  • Hermosos!!!!!!!!!!! Me erizo la piel!!!!

  • Shooot!!! Denyce can sing with me in the bass section...lol

  • she just an amazing singer, possibly the best mezzo- soprano of are time, not to mention a stunning woman. the girls got it all !!

  • MARAVILLOSO...

Raro, pero bellísimo arreglo de ésta hermosa obra...

    BRAVOO!!!

  • Now that is the voice of an Angel

  • She sings with such emotion too

  • I love this soo much. Her range is extraordinary. She is one of the best for sure. This performance proves that.

  • what a range!

  • She's showing her range! Her amazing range! What a phenomenal singer!

  • dude, do you know what your talking about?

  • Sista can SANG.....beautiful, especially this time of the year!! Even MORE amazing (if you can believe it) with drums accompanying her!

  • That was AMAZING!!!!!!!

  • I never knew there was such thing as a fully trained singer... isn't everybody always learning like everyday?

I think it's an awesome performance!

  • That is why she is up there and you are not ;)

  • A dramatic mezzos' and contralto's low register are gonna be masculine singing if they are strong! if they are merely a moan or a mumble they'll be "cutesy".

  • I beg to differ!!! The first art to music is contrast and that is exactly what she conveyed

  • ?????????????????????
