So many years playing Led Zeppelin, but they are still the same energy. Plant and Jimmy are older people, but swept out better than younger ones. They still are young, never die.
Jason does a great job here. i would prefer a new album called Plant, Page, Jones, Bonham of new material over a tour of greatest hits. i thought Walking to Clarksdale was lovely.
I know I'm in the minority here, but I prefer this performance of "Black Dog" to the vast majority of other live performances... and I've heard 'em from '71 through the Page/Plant stuff and beyond. Like the lower key for the guitar work, love the texturing of Plant's vocals. Not crazy about the drumming, as it's a little too "busy" at times for my taste.
I hate to say it, but Jason should really respect his fathers playing style by not adding so many extra fills. It's almost to say he's a better drummer or something. Really strange...
@sydpix why? and no it doesnt, its his style.... it sounds good doesnt it?
sure john was a absolutely fantastic drummer, but just because jason is his son doesnt mean he has to be exactly like his father,i dont mind the extra fills he adds its cool just listen to the music
@sydpix he's not his father he can't play EXACTLY like him. I'd rather hear him add something to it then hear him try to imitate his father and not quite get it.
@sirdon1229 ...well it took them I think only 26yrs to release some more live material after "The song remains the same"concert came out,so..............
These guys are the best. Rock and roll bands today should be required to take a class on how to play by studying these guys before they even attempt to go on stage.
@Citation2009 dude led zeppelin should and WILL NOT be called "Led Zeppelin" Without Robert Plant!! What has gotten into you! Robert plant is like fine wine: he gets better with age.
@Citation2009 I heard they turned him down Is that true. And if it was Good. He's a great old singer, but he's not Robert. Id pay more to see the real band.
I was kinda scared in the beginning of the song, but somewhere around 2:40 I felt it - That is still Robert Plant we know and love. You don't even have to see him, in his voice you can still feel those sexy twitches of his (both vocally and bodily :P)from a long long time ago, you can still feel the raw energy. okay, so he aged, whatever. that's life.
I won't even mention Jimmy. He is, and always will be perfect. Beautiful.
THAT SOUNDED GREAT! But it's clear that they really have one tour left in them and if they're going to do it they better do it quick. But Robert Plant feels that the bands legacy would take a hit if they would tour one more time and that it really is over. I don't feel that way, I think they do have one more tour left in them. Here's hoping they will.!
First, it's unbelievable that Plant ever sang the way that he did for all those years. That's a very hard, if not impossible thing to maintain. The band tuned down a whole step for most for this show to accommodate for Plant's loss of range and he still struggled. It was a wise call not to tour. People age.
I love that our government allows un-educated people to have access to computers! How else would they get their unbelievably profound opinions out to the masses?!?
dude he was what like 59 in this vid. give him a break. there arent many older guy sout ther who can still sing with the exeption of paul mccartney but then agian paul is doing a lot of shows so he can still practice
yep. but when you think about it, they're only in their 60's, besides Jason. B.B. King is 83 and still playing his heart out. when people are reaching a certain age and still have the love and feel of the music (while still sounding great) can cant just toss them aside, you have no choice but to love them, haha.
so that is les paul, who plays aninstrument, Plant voice is not a man made instrument. Pretty much once the damage is done to your voice, its pretty much never 100% anymore
It's like Robert Plant can't even sing in his own range any more. What the hell is up whith that? His vocals were always a very distinct element of their sound. There's really no room for vocal short cuts and singing nearly a full octave lower than the origional song. Everyone else sounded great but Plant really seemed to ruin it all.
he has no doubt lost some of the power in voice, but remember also that the peak of Led Zeppelin's carreer was over 30 years ago, no one is going to sound the same at 60 years old as they did when they were 25-30 years old..
steven tyler is older than plant and sounds as good as he did in his prime. not saying i like tyler more, plant is my favorite singer of all time, just sayin
paul stanley from kiss still hits the same high notes 38 years later, the fact is robert plant hit the drugs pretty hard and it has now effected him in old age. he can still sing, but not like he use to.
@mammo8369 True about paul stanley. But paul rodgers and mick dont sing high notes like plant did. Give it a rest. You saying you wouldnt go see them and be like WOW I saw Zeppelin. He still rocked
@sirdon1229 my point was people were going on about how great this show was, sure it was exciting they played again, but the end result was they sounded like a really bad cover band. a good band cant still have that sound and feel 30 years later, zeplin dont have this. i dont mind the band, but was shocked at how bad they sounded, they didnt even slightly resemble their hey day
@JMartyson A profound statement! I would have never thought of it. I just don't compare Robert to Zep anymore. I appreciate his creativity and the ongoing musical journey he is taking. That was what Zep was about and obviously the only one sticking to it. IMO he still has a powerful voice. I always thought his nut huggers gave him an edge on his falsettoes anyways!
I don't think it's a new problem for Plant. In the movie The Song Remains The Same, they play this song and he doesn't even sing the words, he just speaks them. That was 35 years ago. Sounds great on the original recording though.
mrsgstd: You're right ... that's just Robert live; either he's talking, ad-libbing, or singing verses out of order, but we're used to it, and we accept it, and we love him no less for it!
Do you have any idea how much they toured in there 11 year career? especially from '68 to 69. I've got a bootleg from 1971, and Robert tells the audience that he was sorry for canceling a previous show because they had just played at least 20 dates in 6 days, which ruined his voice. You should really look for a song called "Operator" with Alexis Korner. Roberts range and emotion in that song is amazing. It's from 1968 before the first Zeppelin album came out. He had a powerful voice.
Then you will notice extra songs, what was said between songs, and the true original version of whole lotta love on that bootleg. It's amazing what they had to take out to make it fit on the CD.
I think lifestyle choices have more to do with it, specifically smoking. Plant was smoking for many years after the seventies. Many of the vocalist's from the seventies who didn't smoke sound as good today as they did back then. Examples - Paul Rodgers, Ann Wilson, Eagles. Another example of someone who continues to smoke and lost much of his voice is Bob Seger.
1:25 sounds like Cleavland from family guy goin "AHHH AH" in the audience haaaa!
