FOR ANYONE JUST STARTING TO PITCH HORSE SHOES DO NOT PAY ANY ATTENTION TO THIS VIDEO... Ive been the Canandian junior champ for 2 yrs now so i know my way around the pits trust me it is not ideal to throw a flip shoe from 40 feet because the shoe will bounce back ALOT do not slide your ringers on , this cannot be stressed enough because if u have to throw in clay pits all your shoes will b short. and for the love of god throw the shoe right side up put the wedge down towards the ground!!!
This is a terrible video, for 40 footers throw a 3/4 or 1 1/4. Or another turn type shoe. As a flip will more likely come off at 40 ft. Also I like how this guy is throwing his shoe upside down! Also you dont need to slide in sand if your accurate. Do us a favor and delete this video, before you ruin some young pitchers life lol
the league i play in alot of people throw the 1 1/4 turn or what mr tm calls the frisbee shoe lol and they are really good so you dont know what you are talking about i throw the end over end double flip and I am really good that way it all depends on what you are comfortable with
haha DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS, ive been playing professionally for years and no one throws like a frisbee, he doesnt know shit, watch alan francis not this guy
ima beginner and a pretty damn good one to... and i hold it at the ends of the shoe doesn't matter what side.. and i kick ass with it like that.. i got like a double ringer once like that.. (yesterday :)) i think everyone has their certain sweet spot..
as a canadian junior champ of the game i know a thing of 2 and this guy seriously makes things sound way to complicated if ur looking to learn, the best way to learn is to simply keep the shoe flat on ur release...once u have a consistent fliping motion of the horse shoe aim for the peg and presto!....you can also pistch turn shoe which is what i throw, but its difficult to learn so dont try it if ur new best of luck! :D
Take what th old man says with a grain of salt, Check out the Walter Ray clip or get his video for best instruction. Better yet, go to a local tournament, check out all of the pitchers. Be objective to seeing the constant fundamentals that all but the extreme pitchers share, then practive anc come up with what works for you.
Sand is for losers who cant pitch, too many lucky slide on ringers, get some clay! Also move back . The game is 40 feet(37 foot foul line) not 30 feet. NHPA rules have ruined the game! Grow some nads , be a man.
A flip style works great if the shoe opens properly at and on the stake; however, a 40ft player's flip shoe tends slide well beyond the stake if it does not hook the stake. Thus, no single points. A turn shoe tends to spin into the sand or clay and stay where it lands.
Dry sand is a lousy surface to land on to begin with. Accuracy is the name of the game, not landing short then sliding on.
i hold mine close to the center but not quite...i like to have a about an inch over from the center and throw it and put spin on it

My dad does a overhand throw that flips about 10 times. He gets so many ringers that way. I can't figure out how he does it.
