I also like these songs, but if you have a look at the wikipedia article, you would notice, he said that he doesn't like the album.... let's hope he'll do better work this year or in 2012
I didn't hear this album so far but, as far as I know of it, I think it was risky for Jarre to venture into the ground of dance music, where lots and lots of artists already exist. Maybe he felt he needed to catch up with today's music? Probably for the 1st time in his career, he acted like a "me too" here and this may have disapointed a part of his "historical" audience, who expected a new step forward... On the other hand, this music didn't impress the part of audience born after 1980.
I didn't hear this album so far but, as far as I know of it, I think it was risky for Jarre to venture into the "jungle" of dance music, where lots and lots of artists (some of them are good at it) already exist. Besides, probably for the 1st time in Jean-Michel Jarre's career, he may have behaved like a "me-too", as if he felt that he needed to catch up with today's music. This aspect of his latest album may have desapointed a part of his audience (I don't know the entire album).
It is not really important if someone is a victim of Brain Salad Surgeory (ELP), but since Zoolook he is only refreshing under some interlectual aspects of revolution or metamorphing ideas which are not top of the time, only behind. Strangely his forth wife, actress as the 3 before, gets younger and younger as him or he tried to stay in the dancefloors... The pity is, his name is only connected to only one work Oxy which is the good and evil part of his career...
Exactly, and everyone can see he had a bad flu when recording this interview, but he works really hard, I imagine that he just woke up from bed, and everyone is looking "great" with flu lying in bed for some days....
The comments on the board below just sums up the bullshit by which people are judged these days. The important thing is the music. Jarre has made a major diversion for this album and has always been brave in trying new things. And he always pulls it off.
kevinvrijsen: yes Vangelis is a great choice for checking out... he is a master of his craft. ut sitting there and typing "full of shit"... that's just convinced me that you're full of shit yourself.
Oh my like he is the ONLY artist that has done any facial restoration. I mean wow people, how thick headed are you? Had he not been that famous, none of you would probably care. Does anyone give a darn for what this man has done being part of UNESCO? For the environment? If the only important thing to you is to see or believe that JMJ is or has an ego or is vain, then you have no business being his/her fan.
It is surgery. And you're right, it's doesn't really matter, the music is what matters (as long as you're talking about the music).
Jean Michel has always been a vain bastard! Any fan knows that. Ego and vainity has always been part of the JMJ experience. Look as his early albums and videos... his face has always featured. I'm sorry he felt he had to try to look younger, I think he looks strange now! And it always reeks of a deep insecurity if someone goes for the knife.
what do you mean ego and vainity has always been part of JMJ? just because his face is in almost all albums (or back covers) an videos, doesn't mean ego is characteristical to him! come on, jupiter8, be serious! you cannot know anything about his character, even though we know a little bit of his private life. I think he's a nice artist, and really a modest one!
who cares if it's facelift or plastic surgery?! if you're a true jean m jarre fan, aspect doesn't matter at all. All that matters is the music. he is a true musician and... let's face it... he looks pretty cool for his age!
He was aging nicely, but looks like he got a face lift or got some type of plastic surgery done. Same thing with Tom Jones or Kenny Rogers they all look stupid.
I think that Téo & Téa is great music; some fresh from the "classic JMJ-style" but I also miss the original versions of Jarre´s classic tunes.. could Jarre do the 5.1 effect that he always wanted to do his tracks by playing the tracks with "almost" original sounds/instruments but with 5.1 system ;) I hope you´ll get my point, excuse me my messy exlplain ^^
Its very difficult sometimes. When you admire a persons art and years go by and they evolve just as you do. New technology presents itself and the artist wishes to evolve with that technology. I found jarre in 1987 and have loved and hated certain tracks in the past 20 years. The way i see it now is if i like it i like it but if i hate it i give it a chance. But whatever the music i will admire jmj for all he has done and for the troubles he has got me through for the rest of my life.
"..But whatever the music i will admire jmj for all he has done and for the troubles he has got me through for the rest of my life." Agree 100%. Its nothing wrong to evolve and try new things. But to me his latest album is like DaVinci going from painting sixteen chapel to draw a singel line on a pice of white paper. Im positive that if anyone else hade done this record isntead of Jarre, people would have looked at it diffrent.
I think its a great album. He evolved and I am glad he did. "Touch to remember" is my fav track. What i like is the fact that when you first listen to the album, there is no way you can tell its Jarre.
So much theory behind a poor album.. Please Jarre, go find yourself. Its ok to experiment, but it hasent realy worked so far, post-"waiting for cousteau". Find your roots.
Now, why is it that so-called 'true fans' keep bemoaning the newer stuff of the same artists?
Téo&Téa is a good album, when you listen to it it may not be the same as, say, Chronologie... but if you would just sit down and listen to the fucking music...
"Urrr, Jarre is now a faliure for his music changing." He says it himself, he is always trying new things.
Waiting for Cousteau was my personal favourite song done by anyone, but this DOES NOT MEAN OTHER SONGS ARE BAD. Just accept change.
@EMance I agree 100% with you mate. The only problem i have with this album is that Joachim Garraud (that i know well) is behind most of ideas. He even created some of the soundsets for this album. So, this is not really a Jarre's album, but more a mixture between two guy's styles ;-) Not a bad album though.
@EMance All his albums sound very different would say except Equinoxe and Oxygene, I loved Metamorphoses too where he actually had his own voice and did songs with Natacha Atlas etc, which is again different from anything he did before. I would say my least favourite JMJ album is Sessions 2000, but I can not honestly say what my favourite one is, probably between Magentic fields album or Rendez- vous.
I just noticed I am replying to a comment made 3 years ago :)

Every artist needs to go forward and go new ways. Nobody who give you one music as the other will stand over so much time.
Jarre is around 60 Years old .... His life is music and his music is his life.
I mean, look at him... i wish i look that healthy at 60......
