  • Geile Band!!! Habe ich in den 80er Jahren live in Berlin gesehen.

  • Fukin bludy awesome ole tune!!

  • Friggin great song ...also love "So long" from these guys Fuck every one that doesn't think 80's music is the best! Thanks for posting :)

  • this song hit the Australian charts in 1988 and i never forgot it ... found it now for the first time since then - amazing song!

  • wow, wow, wow, totally love this alternative industrial new wave sound

  • love ittt

  • Shame these guys never got the international recognition they deserved when they were at the peak of their songwriting abilities. Their first 3 albums still rank high with me. Is Pretty Paracetomol here?

  • Man, I havent heard this for like 20 years but still remember all the words. I used to play it endlessly, it was on some greatest hits of 87 or 88 compilation tape that had lot of other awesome songs.

  • Ah, it was '88 the Winners'

  • Awesome. There is such a dark and deep soul to this song. Really stands head and shoulders above alot of the soulless pop garbage churned out in the 80's period

  • Perfect day - Perfect song

  • Quality is just fine. TX for posting this.

  • whoa this quality is shit - surely theres's something better out there

  • awesome..!

  • love this song so much does anyone know the guitar tabs for it would love to do an acoustic cover but cant find the tabs anywhere on the net please email me if you know the chords at kc27@mail.com

  • Forget 2000's, bring back the 80s forever. Today's music sucks

  • great song!! love it

  • Kids...I was a kid when listening to this, and fleeting thought about not waiting for the perfect day. Well I did make the mistake waiting for the perfect day, kids, wife, mortgage far too late in life. A verse in this song can be sung about me...hindsight is a luxory, you'll never have.

  • love it!

  • Could never remember the name of this song or band, all I could remember was come for a day but stay for a week. Heard it on the radio the other day and first time in over 20 years since I heard it, now found it,brings back memories of the '80s and growing up in that era as a child in Australia, pure gold.

  • Comment removed

  • pure gold

  • There song really does affect me when I listen to the Music geez there were some Great bands going around in those day and Fischer Z where at the top of my list

always in my mind, the phrase in this melody

  • good song, odd video

  • nice acoustics and a nice story :)

  • Quality, not a big hit, but very under rated 80s tune this and miles better than most of the crap that is brought out these days!

  • @hotox1968 i agree 100%

  • f kin billy joel stole a lot in the song we dind t statr the fire.....nice aussie gropu ...so long make cry sometimes

  • They're a British group, but did better in Australia than UK. Underrated, for sure.

  • i was 16 yrs old when this was out, loved the song

  • echt cool vielen dank

  • LOVE THIS SONG!

  • I love these guys. 'The Worker' remains my favorite tune.

  • Jennie Cruse is the original backing femalve vocalist

Darren Hanlon has made an unreal cover of the song with Jennie as back up as well

  • I love this song - saw them live at Reading Rock festival in the early 80's, and they won over a hostile crowd - fantastic. You can't listen to this on your ipod without smiling!

  • Great song!!!!

  • anyone know who did the female backing vocals?

  • wow. i loved this song when i was 12. i remember singin every word. 21 years later and i still know the words. nice one

  • my mullet and i loved this song i still do but my mullets gone and so are the eighties R I P

  • This brings back memories--John Watts.

    Thanks

    leogeee

  • me encanta esta cacion gracias

  • 80s rules!

  • absolute classic what a beauty

  • no need to apologize for the quality. in this age of digital crystal clarity, it's nice to see a video with some 'character' of its period. thx for putting this up!

  • Silly people who think the 80s were a period of bad music.

This is just one of countless examples of great music, I bet you will find it hard to find comparable music in the 2000's.

  • @tatkaoz you'r right i was born in 1993 and som find it stupid buy i like this music much more than the music of the 21 century

  • This hit the charts in 1988 in Australia. So long was a hit in 1980. Two awesome songs - listen to them both. (I live in the UK now - where this group originates).

  • Is still rarely played on Adelaide radio - during '80s' weekends

  • Great stuff.

  • Darren Hanlon - there should be some info about him on the candle records site, including a brief story about how the cover came about

  • wow i cant believe that this song is even on the internet, good stuff.

  • Thanks for the Post.

It seems if you want to hear good music, one must search back in time, such a pity. apart from a few innovative bands, 1990s, 2000a, are a wasteland for good music. I feel sorry for this generation, I really do.

  • I kind of agree with you on that... I was born 1993, so still a young boy.. But hell, I'd give anything to grow up with music like this... Although I think there's still some good music around these days, nothing beats bands like Fischer-Z or Dire Straits=)

  • I remember getting up on Sunday mornings to watch this video when it was in the charts here in Australia. Did you know a singer called Darren Hanlon covered this as a b side (and i think the original backing vocalist did the backing vocals again)

  • Nice to know that there where people cover this song.

I wonder how it sounds. Can't find the artist with this song on the net.

    Glad you like the clip

  • loved this but who is darren ?

  • craigca3 zrav guij mrak scmilj!

    Hahahahahahaha!!!

    :-P

  • @craigca3 Same, I was a kid when this was in the charts been trying to find it for years. Found it using lyric finder.

  • @craigca3 I was exactly the same. I enjoyed this song thoroughly as a child and got so excited everytime I heard it on the radio. I forgot about it, until one day it was played on the radio and had my Samsung F480 and it's music recognition features! Great song

  • I have the 12" Version of this.

    Great Song

  • great song, agreed !!!!

  • Thanks sooo much for posting this !

    Awesome !!

  • Great stuff.

  • Rocky rock rock!

  • Yep, that's them. JW still so totally rocks.

  • he will rocks............it's so nice to see this man live playing his songs (and the old Fischer-z songs).

  • Yes they do. Also great songs !!

  • I love this song Thankyou for putting it on here!!

  • You're welcome. It is a nice song. It makes the day brighter.

  • not that i condone feelin yerself

  • lol

  • this song is makin me feel meself

  • Wasn't this song released after a few year layoff between songs/records? The reason why I say that is because this is a cool song...and most times when bands take that time off they come back with a horse shit effort..not here though..nice song.

  • You've right. This song is taken after a break. It was a new setting with bandmembers. He treid it with a female singer and it was a succes (I guess)

  • Thank you so much tally. I adore this song and have it on repeat on my trusty MP3 player. But I like to have the video too. Thanks heaps xxx

  • So you have the video now. Enjoy it and repeat this song again and again and again and ......

  • I have been trying to find the video for this song for ages. It must be 10 years since I last saw it (on an old video of 'the chart show' from 1988). Fantastic song thanks for sharing it. (p.s. the quality isn't too bad at all)

  • You're welcome. Glad you found it. I've found it long time ago on internet. I like to share it with other fans :)

  • Wat een LEKKER nummer

  • Ja heerlijk he. Jammer dat het geen hit is geweest. Maar voor de fans blijft het een leuk nummer

  • I don't understand what you are saying dude..............

  • huh ?

  • I´m 14 again....:)

  • I bet it feels good :)

  • daar heb je gelijk in :-)

  • Since I listened to this song yesterday, I had the tune in my head all day at work today.

Nothing like "last song in head" syndrome.

  • It's a nice song to put it all day long inside your head

  • I can't recall if Fischer Z toured Australia, though.

  • I still recall watching this on Saturday morning on Rage while in Year 9. Some of the pop songs that made it to the Aussie Top 40 in the late 1980s were classics.

  • It's good to hear that this song reach the top 40.

Here in Holland it did nothing.

  • From memory, it got as high as the mid-20s or something here in Oz.

  • takes me back to post student days living in leeds -priceless

  • I hope it was a nice time

  • I was a huge fan, it is good to see that again. John Watts is still touring, he will be in Belgium in May

  • It's still a big pleassure to see John playing.

I've see him in Germany at november '06.

    Great

  • Haven't seen / heard this song since the 80s. Classic nostalgia!

  • i love fischer z . thank you for sharing this

  • Just spotted the brand new - What A Time To Live video on youtube by John Watts - brilliant song, brillant video - check it out!

  • Loved the song. Thanks for sharing the video. Much appreciated.

  • It's nice to sharing this video !

  • By the way, this band also had a major hit in Australia with 'So Long' in 1980. 'Perfect Day' still gets occassional radio play over here.

  • When have they the hit Perfect Day?

It must much later tha So Long.

  • Perfect Day was a hit in 1988 and So Long was in 1980. I suppose they spent 8 years as a one hit wonder in Australia until Perfect Day put them back on the charts.

  • Great ! Thank you !

  • You're welcome !

  • This song was a hit in Australia in 1988. I remember really liking it, especially the video, which got a lot of play.

  • I didn't know they were scoring a hit in Australia.

Nice to hear that they at that moment were famous.

  • Yep, this video would play straight after that Beach Boys' song 'Kokomo' (spelling?) and before Bon Jovi's 'Bad Medicine'.

  • Reminds me of watching Rage on a Saturday morning...good times.

  • It's always good to remind the good times.

    Enjoy this great videoclip
