My favourite song of all time by one of the most talented muso's on this little planet. His longevity is proven as he is still performing solo and with Clapton around the World.
This is my absolute most favorite song from Steve Winwood. It is one totally awesome song beyond magical proportions! Oh how it takes me back to those long summer nights hanging out with my friends by the river with this song among others blasting on our boom box and staring up at the stars and talking and laughing about what we wanted to be someday. Funny how life throws you curve balls and your dreams change with time. I sure miss those youthful days so much. The best times then! The 80's! :-)

This song is dedicated to a beautiful angel named Annamarie Impriano who lives in the Philadelphia area. I am in love with this unceasingly beautiful and genteel angel named Annamarie! Anna, I love you so...............................o much! Joey Santacecilia
On the single cut, one can still hear Winwood singing the "be" from the verse that was edited out the moment the synth solo comes in, after the bridge verse. The edit was a rough-edged one; on the original album version, after the bridge, he sings "Yeah, your way" and then, after a short interlude, "When there's no one left to lead you..." and then the 1st verse again: "Stand up in a clear blue morning/Until you see what can be/Alone on a cold day dawning/Are you still free, can it be?".
this song reminds me of my mother who passed away september 30th of this year when thisa song came on she would smile and make me laugh when i was in a down mood :,(
Didn't like the crazy video which completely didn't match anything of his great classic music...great song which brings back memories of 1981 when I lived in Texas as a Mormon Missionary :)

Gay Marriage Approved by New York Senate
Lawmakers voted late Friday to legalize same-sex marriage, making New York the largest state where gay and lesbian couples can wed, and giving the national gay-rights movement new momentum from the state where it was born.
The same-sex marriage bill was approved on a 33 to 29 vote. The Senate galleries were so packed with supporters and opponents that the fire marshals closed them off.

This is one of my all time favorites. It reminds me of the day I was discharged from the Navy back in 1981. This song was playing on the radio when I got in my car to head home. It was played a couple times every hour on almost every station I tuned into between Boston and Florida. That rode trip mark a watershed moment in my life and this song kind of became the theme for it. Thank you for sharing it.
I remember rushing out to the record store when I first heard this song back in 1980! Things were much simpler back then, with much less stress, and much cheaper prices! You could usually get the new hit album 5 dollars! Those days are gone forever, but I can always remember the great memories! Peace, BobbyK

When this song first came out I was working on my first car that I had spent all my money on. $100 and I was 14 when I bought it. It took 3 years of work, plus a drivers license, before I could take it on the road. For some reason everytime I was in the garage, this song would be playing. It would never make my top 50 of favorite songs, but it is the only one that brings back the memories of working on that car.
never imagined this song would have over 400k views. Not to mention at one point it was copyrighted a few times and removed from youtube. Might have gotten over 500k by now.
@theocemma I was born in 1969 (as per my user name), and my love of good rock and pop music started with playing my older brothers' 45 records on my Show 'n' Tell when I got sick of the slide show records that came with it. I got to rock out to the Beatles, Beach Boys and others as a 4-year-old. Top-40 was almost perfect all the way through the first 18 years or so of my life. Then came 1987-88 and everything went to shit. Alternative sort of saved part of the 90s at least....
@progrocker69 I was born in 1993 but i always loved the 80s and 90s as my dad brought me up listening to the songs on the radio, cd's, tapes and even the records :) Im not an expert on 80s etc but i do know alot of music from the era. I will say though that the 90s was actually one of my favourite eras. And as for these days im turning 18 soon and i cant really do anything about the music these days, i do like some of the songs but the quality doesent compare to the music of the 80s and 90s.
You have no idea how refreshing it is to hear that from someone younger than me. Me: born in 1972, raised on good music (thanks, my parents) and I cannot bear most of today's music - there are some exceptions. I miss the 80s. I'm living in the past, man!
@theocemma It's because you have a real "ear" for talent and good music... you aren't simple minded and caught up in what others "tell you" is COOL and crap. Way to be :) :) I'm the same way. I was born in the 80's, but can tell ya the difference between CRAP and the good stuff... even if I don't like it.
@theocemma i was born in the late 70's, therefore being an 80's and 90's child and having been born and raised in south Florida, i remember really loving Steve Winwood, Phil Collins, and all the other phenomenal British rock n roll artists when all my peers were liking all the current crap like expose and new kids on the block and now hearing today's crap, seeing how you and fans like yourself liking Steve as well only solidifies that British rock n roll has and will ALWAYS STAND THE TEST TIME!
I first heard this song at the end of a Stevie Wonder concert in Sydney in 1980. I was blown away and still am. The beginning of the song is fantastic and takes me straight back to the concert. Funny that I should remember Steve Winwood and not Stevie Wonder.
I love this song and Steve Winwood. Does he look a little like Conan OBrien or is it just me????? Dated video but timeless music. Thanks for posting.
I can remember the first time I heard this song, the girl I was looking at when I heard it, and asked that girl to dance. She said yes. That was in 1980. The first 3 notes of this song takes me back to that moment.
@65Dart The downside to this story is that I was seeing another girl that I dated in high school but we were at separate colleges. I enjoyed the dance but it didn't go further. The one I danced with eventually married one of my college football teammates. I hope they are still together and happy.
@tytandan Reading your first comment as the song opened, I thought what sacred moment. You've held that memory for all these years and this song can take you back to that special place on your mind. Two sets of eyes meet and for one song they're in love. Then I happened to scroll down and read this sort of epilouge and it's just beautiful man. The song playing as I read it, it was like a classic 80's movie in 4 and a half minutes. Really really cool man.
LOL everyone's commenting on the Conan O'Brien resemblance. I can't make up my mind which one looks more like Conan - Steve or the drummer for Vanity Fair in the 'Hitchin A Ride' video below. About 0.33 - 0:40
hey Candlelight whatever " sad song" how come? it has a really positive message while you see a chance take it...!!!!
This is my alltime favourite song, I work in Radio have done so all my adult life and whenever I move on to another Station this is always my farewell song.
I am truly glad to have been a child of the 80's. Steve Winwood, Huey Lewis and the News, Bruce Hornsby and the Range, Mike and the Mechanics, Kenny Loggins; I loved the music from that era and all of the songs instantly take me back to my childhood and the memories overwhelm me every time.
this is one of the greatest songs ever...well in my estimation anyway...Steve and i share the same birthday may 12th..I think the lyrics just sum up everything for me...superb.

If Beavis and Butthead were still around, I would love to see this video on there.
"Is that Bill Nye the Science Guy?" "To unlock your body's potential, we proudly offer Soloflex?" "Uh, I think this is like Yoga or something."

The "sax" lead that you hear coming out of what appears to be a Prophet-10 in this video, is actually done on the Moog Multimoog.

I first heard this song at the end of a Stevie Wonder concert in Sydney in 1980. I was blown away and still am. The beginning of the song is fantastic and takes me straight back to the concert. Funny that I should remember Steve Winwood and not Stevie Wonder.

@vanjane
Regardless, as both Stevies are associated with the keyboards (piano and synthesizer).

When I first heard this song, I thought it was a guy who was heavier, boy was I wrong. But nonetheless Steve Winwood has a awesome voice

I love this song and Steve Winwood. Does he look a little like Conan OBrien or is it just me????? Dated video but timeless music. Thanks for posting.

@ouchtown
I get more of a Bill Nye vibe from Steve Winwood in this video.

I can remember the first time I heard this song, the girl I was looking at when I heard it, and asked that girl to dance. She said yes. That was in 1980. The first 3 notes of this song takes me back to that moment.
tytandan 1 year ago 47
@tytandan very cool
65Dart 1 year ago
@65Dart The downside to this story is that I was seeing another girl that I dated in high school but we were at separate colleges. I enjoyed the dance but it didn't go further. The one I danced with eventually married one of my college football teammates. I hope they are still together and happy.

@tytandan "The one that got away".... yeah I've got one of those too ;-)

His guitar, his percussion, his songwriting...c'mon nobody can do all that?

I am truly glad to have been a child of the 80's. Steve Winwood, Huey Lewis and the News, Bruce Hornsby and the Range, Mike and the Mechanics, Kenny Loggins; I loved the music from that era and all of the songs instantly take me back to my childhood and the memories overwhelm me every time.

Steve is playing every instrument on this song/album. Recorded in his home!!
