@SatchmoSings That would have been great. Remember though, this was America in the 50's. Even though the producers and cast of this show would have promoted your plan, much of the country wouldn't have accepted it. I'd like to think most of WML's viewership was sophisticated enough to appreciate it, I'm not sure.
@wiguy3 Well, true enough and anyway, I'm a big fan of Ellington and his music; in his particular field his music represented his fine and finely tuned intellect.
What an urbane fellow he was--this was wonderful! I've revered Ellington's music all my life and it was great to see him here demonstrating his great sense of humor and well, just being plain COOL! Loved Steve Allen's comebacks here as well....thanks for posting this!
To celebrate the release of John Pizzarelli's new album, Rockin' In Rhythm: A Tribute To Duke Ellington, Telarc International is giving away a complimentary two-night stay at the Carlyle Hotel, two tickets to my performance, dinner for two and a travel voucher!
Duke made or appeared in many movies as well, as early as 1929. Black and Tan , Check and Double Check, Bundle of Blues, Symphony in Black, Murder at the Vanities, The Hit Parde, Cabin in the Sky, several Soundies, Symphony in Swing, Anatomy of a Murder, are some examples, plus many TV appearances with and without his band. .
Thanks for posting this. Edward Kennedy "Duke" Elllington was one of the most significant composers of the 20th century. And of course he wrote great songs as well.
Duke was sauve back in the day.

Ellington was a fairly urbane man; today he would have been a guest panelist.
