lol I'm in my 6th month of the film program. If you go to this school be ready to lose some serious sleep. You can always tell who is a freshmen by the way they complain about the schedules.
The way Full Sail works is that even if you are experienced or a beginner, they always start from the bottom and as the degree progresses, get harder and more advanced. So, if you don't know anything about Game Design or Film, for example, it doesn't matter. As long as you have the dedication and passion to learn, you will be fine. :)
I want to go here to get into game design but I dont rly know anything about programming yet, Is that gonna be a problem, or will they teach me from the beginning?
im sure there going to teach u from the beginning, i would go on to their web site and look at the courses for that program, they will also send u stuff iin the mail
No one said it was the only one out there, it is simply, at least form the film department, the top in the country when it comes to the equipment to work with, no school has what we have here so over price, maybe a little but its well worth it.
yes and no...although i do suggest if you do go there i would start learning about computers before you go there just so you are at lease able to understand everything. cause this is a career based collage, they have some expectations that you at lease know how 1 works before you start an advance program such as programming, oh and also good at lease with Algebra
I went to Columbia College chicago for my BA in music business before I decided to switch to FS. getting my BA there would have added up to more than what I am paying at FS (2 more years of rent, added course fees and cost of books...). AND I dont have to waste money 120credit ours of gen eds!!! BEAT THAT!
I graduated about a year ago and i thought the school was great, it is a lot of money, the education isnt worth the amount you pay but the equipment is, also the teachers are great some of the best i might add i've learned so much from them. Also i met some of the most amazing people at full sail just cuz most people were just like me and loved the same exact thing, i say iof you can do it then go ahead because it is worth it
I'm looking to attend Full Sail as well...I found something bad written about it on geocites...the tuition is crazy ridiculous...I do believe that attending an audio school is about what you put in but at the same time I want for my instructors to be excellent in teaching...any one have any FACTS about full sail?
In my opinion this school is top of the line. the only problem is you get kids out there who think that full sail can make then into the next swizz beats or the next director of a big feature film. thats why most kids come out with bad veiws of full sail hate them because they thought they could coast through and then graduate and the job offers start flowin in.not realistic. and by the way there are many schools like full sail but they cost around the same or more..c'mon people
so you guys think it is worth it? i read many things about it, on youtube, some say it is good, other hate it, what do you guys think? ( film program)
To be successfull in the Film industry you have to be very passionate and commited. Most all bad reviews are just lazy people who didn't build a good portfolio and sell themselves properly and couldn't get a job. So now they are bitter they are in debt.
my advice is get plenty of experience before you come to full sail. I came to full sail with no experience and I struggled for a long time. People say it's impossible to get a decent job after full sail but that's not true! you can easily get an intern job after school, it just depends on how dedicated you are, and if that's true you will surely move up in the business. The time it takes depends on you.
scam! This school should be called Full of Shit. Getting a decent job once you graduate with a music business degree is next to impossible. Everyone in the industry scoffs when they read on your resume that you went to this school. You'll learn a lot (if you want to) while going to this school. Good luck once you get out. If you are in no situation finance wise to intern you are just going to be paying off loans while working at a job that's not in the industry.
I am a 1983 Full Sail grad, back when it was a warehouse and one classroom. Yea it was a fun school, and quite an fun experience. But you don't walk out the door and into a great paying entertainment job, you earn that one on your own.
Todays tuition at FS is astronomical! My advise kids, take that money and invest in yourself. You'll thank me for it.
The Daily Buzz is what we used to catch before class back in the day! I went to Full Sail in '85. Garry Jones was just as full of shit way back then! Of the 8 alumni I've kept in contact with, only two of us are still in the music business. It's not about having a degree in this biz... it's all about chops. Good luck kids!
What I'm saying is that when you graduate you have only an inkling of a clue about what it takes to be a recording engineer. It takes many more years of hands on learning and effort to be able to compete with guys like me that have been doing this for 20 years. There's a gig out there for you if you're determined, personable and hard working. Good luck to all!
Ahhh, okay. Yea, that makes sense. I am considering (highly) attending there to learn about Game Development, so input from someone who has been through the school (if through a different course) is valued. Thanks for responding.
Yeah it used to be called Career Placenment until people called them on it. FS never offers up any unique or inside leads. Every "job lead" they gave me came from public job sites anyone could find themselves and now they don't even send out leads. The "career development" now just posts links to job sites on the alumni. LAME
It's doubtful you couldn't have gotten that intership on your own. Full Sail just led you to believe they got it for you.
I looked on the actual company's website with all of the other job and internship postings. Not there. But I worked with the department for a long time...I didn't expect them to just hand something to me without me trying...
I didn't expect to be handed anything either but when the admissions department throws around fake statistics like "Full Sail places 80% of graduates with industry jobs within 2 months of graduation" and "Full Sail has inside leads" or "Full Sail is highly respected in the industry", the school is telling bold faced lies and misleading prospective students.
Do you have anything that says other wise? I have done work with the admissions dept. and have helped gather data for statistics for work study. Nothing they say is a lie. And they don't consider non-entertainment industry jobs being placed either...and they certainly have more inside leads than any other place I've ever heard of.
well when i was at the placement dept 2 years ago they must have considered non-entertainment industry jobs because they had like restaurant and retail jobs on there and the studios and stuff were pretty much like 'here's an address to a studio, send your resume there'.... "I" pay 380.00 a month now for it. oh how i hated the kids at school whose parents were paying for their school. bastards.
Another difference may be that I went through the Recording Arts and Entertainment Business and you went through film. I have no experience in the side of the industry, other than the fact that I specialize in audio post.
Yeah I had mentioned that earlier in one of my posts. My experiences are in dealing with the digital media and film programs.
The digital media program is waste of money imo. There's little you learn that couldn't be learned by downloading tutorials or getting a subscription to something like lynda dot com.
Wow...statistics show that unhappy customers will tell 10 people of a bad experience, while a satisfied customer might only tell 1 other person. For all the bad comments on here, I guess I need to counteract them a little bit. I'm just finishing my second degree from Full Sail and I've been totally happy with my experience. I never had a problem getting on the gear I wanted and the staff was all really cool. Gary Jones is one of the coolest guys I have ever met and is extremely student oriented.
Uh yeah right. I graduatued from film and digital media. Never recieved an HD class, never got to use the fancy new soundstage, never got to use the virutal reality gear, never got to use mo-cap gear, never got to produce my own movie. etc etc etc.
Yeah Full Sail also censors students who are critical of the school or who make suggestions for improvement. Full Sail keeps their alumni message board seperate from their current student message boards so students will never get a heads up to the scams and bait and switches Full Sail pulls.
I linked this video to the alumni website and instantly got banned from posting messages ever again.
I'm surprised they didn't trot out the "virtual reality" gear (headset and gloves) they only show off during the "Behind the scenes tours". Students never got to use those either.
And the nerve to throw out "HD" when in the film program we never recieved any HD training.
Are you F*CKING kidding me! Where the hell was the mo-cap when we went through the programs? What utter BS! I know no one who has ever taken the 3D or digital media programs who EVER got use mo-cap gear.
It's funny...they always list Show Pro last...yet, it has the best numbers when it comes to job placement...BTW...anyone seen Garry's Aston Martin? Fucking sick!
Full Sail is a joke among those in the know. Every Full Sail grad I've ever met knows so little that I can't possible believe they've had any formal training. They all wind up behind the counter at Guitar Center anyway, you might as well not be $40k in the hole when you get there.
the schools pretty good....i wont say its the only or even the best option if you're lookin to make it in the entertainment industry, but its pretty good....a lot of the equipment they show off like their dubbing stage & such, are really just there for show....i went through the recording program in 05-06 & we werent even allowed on that floor! but hey its a good school, but dont spend the $50,000 on the one year of education if you're not 100% serious about your commitment
For the most part such opportunities are far and few between. MOST of the time you working in groups trying to elbow each other to get enough console time, at least in the film program.
I know many graduates that are successful. Sounds like hyphen782 does not want to work hard, network or take responsibilty for using the tools Full Sail provides. The school is awesome just like the tour!
