I had a quick question. Can you press any brand of loose eyeshadow using alcohol. I know you can do it with MAC, but would it ruin the eyeshadows of other brands?
@Boondockgrl1986 It depends how far you want to fill the pan, you can use as little or as much as you want (as long as it doesn't overflow the pan). I usually only fill mine halfway or so.
are these empty pans the same you used in the hello kitty pallette video with the melted lip sticks? and wich size are both the ones in this video and the hello kitty pallette video? 15.5mm? 20mm? or 30mm?
i LOVE your videos...i have used your technique and it works for me so im sticking with it.lol
just have one unrelated question...
Who is singing the version of the song that plays in the beginning of the vid, and WHERE CAN I FIND IT?!?! it gets stuck in my head.lol i have heard others singing it, but i like the one that u have. please help out :-)
love this video, i actually made the hello kitty pallet and im going to fill it with pressed pigments, i was wondering where do you get the pans ?! thanks so much, love love love youuu !

@HappieMix I was told that you should use a pressing medium for mineral make up! But for regular eyshadow (like when its broken) or pigments using alcohol alone is enough!
hey everyone! I just tried it with with ethyl alcohol (in Europe called spirit - I got 99% :D it took 10 min!) and another pigment I did with 96% isopropyl alcohol, it's a "dry emolient", used in most of cosmetics, because it gives a creamy apply and THEN evaporates from skin. So - the second pigment is hmm... harder to put on the eyelid, it sticks to brush, so I don't recommend this way :) ppl - learn on my mistake! ;) but if I try it on matts or minerals, I'll share it guys
Hey, I just opened an online store where you can find the 26mm pans, magnets, and other things for pressing pigments, as well as 100% authentic MAC pigment samples. Excellent prices & super fast shipping!! Go to: z a y s e y e z . e c r a t e r . c o m. Oh, and you get a free gift with every order!!
I used this method on fixing my shattered eye shadow...I broke it almost the day I bought it and didn't know what to do with it, but now I have my eye shadow back...THANK YOU!
hi yes you can but not with alcohol based mixing medium you would need water based mixing medium if you search pressing nyx pigments you will find a girl that pressing nyx pigments :)
pressing the pigments allows you to put them in a palette and take with you. it just becomes pressed, but when you put it on it's the same, the alcohol evaporates. if you're going to order samples, 3 is probably a good amount, that's what i order.
@60077123 He said he used a 'Smidge' which is approx. 1 /12 of a tsp and he said he put in about 2-3 rounds in so It will probably work but you may consider finding a smaller pan to be on the safe side. Powdered pigments are more.. eh?? Filled with air?? But, pressed pigments are much more dense yet much easier to use.
Also about the benefit, look at what @EAC1215 said.
Koren hi!!i wanted to ask you why i cannot press my burnt burgundy pigment..have you ever tried to press that one?i have pressed a couple of pigments like tan and violet but the burgundy one always cracks when dries up..what can i do?
ohh thats why!!!yes its matte as well as the coral one which i pressed and after it gir dried it cracked so badly...Is there a trick though that we can press matte pigments??:)
you're welcome :) Not that I know of, I'm trying to figure it out myself. Actually, until recently, most inexpensive brands didn't have matte eyeshadows because they are so hard to press...
add a couple drops of glycerin along with the rubbing alcohol. You want to use glycerin with matte and mineral pigments. You're supposed to be able to find them at pharmacies, I couldn't find any at Walgreen's but I'm going to ask next time I'm there.
If you are a Makeup Artist it is much easier to carry around pressed pigments in your kit then having to fuss around with all of those jars and loose pigments that can spill and make a mess, it can be a real pain.
Also, some people are simply more comfortable with pressed eyeshadows.
HEY DEAR the purpose is to place some pigments into a pallette like the eyeshadows if you want,so that you wont carry the whole pot of the pigment with you:)
This is such a great way, I find loose pigments so hard to work with, I am definitely pressing mine! Thanks so much Koren, you totally saved me from keeping a bunch of unused pigments around!

a company called NYX makes these eyshadows called PEARL MANIA loose eyeshadows..but theyre basically pigments they cost around 2-3 $ and come in an array of colors!!the only downfall is that they are TINY!!! but how much pigment does a person need??Lol
is there any less expensive pigments other than mac? also is there a certain type of pigment because i found some online at walmart but idk if its the wrong one...

And, what do you mean by "is there a certain type of pigment"? =/
Yes, there are pigments made for makeup. I think the ones you're talking about are ones used for arts and crafts.
But generally, you probably can use it for makeup, even if it is for crafts and such. I use paint brushes for my makeup brushes, and they work fantastically, so I don't understand why you wouldn't be able to use other craft things for makeup use. =]
there is a website called tkbtrading i think. they sell things called micas which are pretty much pigments. you can mix them and make your own eyeshadows or just use the color by itself. they have a TON of colors and they are really cheap. i think its like 1.50 for an ounce and they come in other sizes too. hope this helped =)
Help! I pressed my pigment but now it won't come off on my brush when I go to apply it. The shadow will come off if I use my finger, however. Any clue what I did wrong? Is it safe to grind it up and try again?
how many teaspoons of pigment do you think you used for pressing..??

i tried pressing my nyx pearl mania eye dust and it has been 4days and it still hasnt dried up. i used 70% alcohol. is this the reason why? i did kinda make it very watery too. let me know what i did wrong or how i can better at this lol

thelumbahjack 2 years ago
pressing the pigments allows you to put them in a palette and take with you. it just becomes pressed, but when you put it on it's the same, the alcohol evaporates. if you're going to order samples, 3 is probably a good amount, that's what i order.
megz212445 2 years ago
as far as i remember, if you get 3 of those samples, that makes a full pan :) i heard that from allthatglitters21 i guess..
