Good job, looks nice. Have you done anything with making a step-up power supply to get higher rail voltage? Looking to do the same for a boombox project of my own...
@digitalruler1337 Raising the voltage with the existing amplifier chip's I used in my amp is only possible up to 18 volts wich is the maximum operational voltage for them. Building a step-up voltage converter to supply higher voltage to the amplifiers is difficult because of the complex design of switching power supplies.
@MrPunkb A valve tube amp of the same power would require too much power to be battery powered and the amp only would be the size of the entire boombox itself.. I'd rather go class D to minimize losses even more.
@BadAndUgly hey i was wondering if you or anyone else knows where i can get an amplifier that can handle about 2x80w rms @ 2.7 ohms? ive looked for quite a while and only found one that was 300£ and im not paying that much since i dont have that much, i was looking for around 40-70£ or 80-140$. could anyone help?
is this the one that you took the amp out of a big screen TV and made it into a portable system? thats awesome Ive built a small amp from the guts of a boombox and an old DVD player case and it works pretty good its not that powerful though and now the frickin volume knob snapped off now i need to fix it. and I run this rig off an old CD burner power supply.
Yes, it's the mp3 on top of it, it's a sony walkman 4GB but a friend has misplaced it somewhere when he borrowed the setup so now he owe me a new player..
Building an am like this is quite easy if you have access to a heap of parts, mine is built all by scrap electronic parts.
lol I just did 2 hacks last night I made a USB charger for my mini media mp3 player and im gonna test it to see if it works and charges good. and the other is one of those in car speakerphone things that plugs into the cig lighter i added a 1/8 headphone jack as an input vs the long original cor i had tacked on it with tape and i am running it off a 9v battery and ive changed the 9V battery clip an put a knot on the cord and hid it inside now theres only 2 inches of cord sticking out.
and theres only 2 inches of wire going to the 9V battery clip but I need a way to attach the battery to the housing somehow w/o electrical tape. Ill do a video on these 2 rigs soon stay tuned.
I was thinking of some sort of metal clip that holds the battery but this thing is so weirdly shaped there isnt much room to do that and i dont want ti attempt to screw it to the plastic b/c the PC board is all surface mount parts and near impossible to rig. this is why I like 80s and 90's technology b/c the parts are thru hole mount and replaceable if they break.
awesome video. I wanted to build my own car amp for about 100-200 watts to power a sub, so i can keep it small since the smallest car amps are usually 9x9x2 which is too big for what I'm trying to do. but your video is inspiring.
It's nice to spawn creativity among people, many car amp's are built big just for show, it's possible to build a compact unit using cooling fans to take away the heat, maybe even put 2 levels of circuit board in there too.
I'm about to make an attempt at this. What chip(s) did you use in the amp circuit? I'm looking at using a TDA1557Q, but I'm not sure what kind of quality I'll be getting into.
The case is an old CDROM unit that I took all the electronics out of, sprayed it black and took a plastic 5,25" blind front from a computer case to fit the meters, buttons and knobs into.
Well, that would be a real challenge, both for the wallet and by designing, but it would probably result in a pulse width modulated amplifier with a stabilized push&pull switching powersupply. =P
Yeah, the bass is awesome for the small power driven into the subwoofers, 2x22W isn't really much but it plays well and goes very low in frequency. When the bass goes below 25Hz, the whole thing shakes back and forth!
The song is Scooter - This is a monstertune, from one of their older albums.
The amp and speakers plays really well, especially in open spaces. But I wouldn't really call it hi-fi by todays standards, but ut covers the whole frequency range, even the really deep bass thanks to the pioneer subwoofers wich plays suprisingly deep bass.
nice bass

all that from 84 wrms? and a frigin drill battery?

@coolaidkiller101
Yes, drill batteries have high current capacity and can supply that power without breaking sweat :)

Try build valve tube amp, that is the true quality not this crap!

It's a home made boombox lol, I used duct tape to hold it together but now I use nailing strips so it won't fall apart that easily.

XDD its a joke, what i said man , im always looking for homemade thing....but i dont understand the video....

It sounds like shit because it's too loud for the microphone in the camera.. That microphone is really weak..

Nah, this one is based on old car radio parts, music source is a mp3 player.

cool I think i see the mp3 player on top, an ipod nano or something. im gonna build an amp out of my big screen TV's audio amp when it dies.

if you could in any way glue or fasten a 9v battery cap stationary to it you then it's just pushing the battery to the poles and it will stick there.

Mine is made of salvaged junk from old car stereos, it's using 2 TDA2005 for the stereo speakers and a TDA8561Q for the subwoofers.
The meters and other parts are taken from an old Luxor (old swedish electronics brand) stereo. Lights are blue LED's aimed into the meter housings.
