@Bluestarwarrior1 Quit being a selective bully and go harass parrot and hamster owners too. A good portion of parrots are still from the wild and hamsters have not been kept that long they are just prolific breeders because they are rodents. Hamster are even endangered in the wild and Tamanduas are not.
@emeraldfairy90 My supplier does not sell to the public. You need a USDA license. He does sell to some brokers who resell them for more to the public and he did ask me not to talk about him.
There are a limited number available each year as well. There have been more available this year, all originally from him, than there have been for several years.
dont you think you are helping the illegal trade of animals owning a tamandua ? this is not a pet, why dont you adopt a underdog, there many dogs and cats without shelter. the house of tamandua is the jungle.
No I have them legal and would not encourage anyone to get one illegally. It's not good for the animals and the penalties are stiff. I have two shelter dogs, a cat from a rescue, a stray cat found in a tree, and astray bunny that had been wandering free for months. I want anteaters too, even if I had no anteaters i would not want three dogs. They are not taking the place of shelter animals.
Beef is very good for them. They are healthiest on a raw beef based diet. It seems to taste similar to termites to them as if a wild one needs to eat in captivity they sprinkle beef on termite nest. Cheese has some retinol in it. They have very limited retinol needs so it is not in the base diet and they get the tiny bit they need from cheese. My diet is bases on the analysis of their wild stomach contents. You get your info from?
Assuming you are in the USA it depends on your state, county and city laws. In most cases you will need a permit if they allow it at all. They are also hard to come by. There are not many around.
It also probably helps to have a genuine interest in putting the time, effort, and money into caring for an exotic species, rather than "that weird pet is soooooooo cute!".
if i persue my license (USDA) and i can prove to you that i have one, will you put me in contact with your breeder?

@ACDCwarmachine I do not have a breeder. Stewie was rehomed to me from someone else.

@TamanduaGirl Well said. You definitely love your Tamanduas and they seem perfectly happy. :) I wish we could have them as pets in California.

Bubblegum4289 2 years ago
Giant anteaters can be but Tamanduas are not so much. About the worst they do is give a bad pinch and some scratches.

Yeah most people don't really want one, stinky pee, holes in the wall, all the trouble of keeping them healthy and happy.
