The reason that rowers suggest to not go over 4/5 is due to the fact that they race at longer distances and your form will break down making you less efficient also putting you at greater risk for back injury. Why put the fan setting at a 7 if you're going to be faster and produce more watts at a 4 over X distance or X time? If you don't have the power to justify the higher damper setting, or the VO2 max to justify it over X distance/time then put it lower and have faster times.
I just happened upon your website & videos via Zach Even Esh's Underground Strength blog.
I love you the way you train and the music you have on your videos is awesome. I am definitely inspired and amped up, going to watch all your videos. Burning resolve man, burning resolve
That's a bad ass video. What's your setting on your rower? I have one at my jiu-jitsu school and I also have an ex-college rower that told me never to change the setting over 4 or your form would suffer. Just wondering your settings.
thats like saying never go for a max snatch, or heavier than previously before, because your form might suffer. Sometimes I have the settings very low, and others very high, and 10 it feels like you're rowing through mud and on 1 you pull fast as hell and go almost nowhere. They are both extremely demanding, but require a bit different type of energy. I usually keep it at 7
@GTSPerformance If you are training for rowing you never want the setting above 4. If you are using the erg for purely strength training or cross training purposes then that rule doesn't really apply. If you put the setting above 4 you will be forced to initiate too much with your back and not enough with your legs. This is problematic for rowers because it is the antithesis of an efficient stroke on the water. It really just depends on what you're training for. A setting of 3/4 is the closest
@GTSPerformance - There's a setting (rowing test) on Concept rowers that will tell you where YOU should be rowing. Just FYI :) - But Matt's absolutely right, I usually say between 4 and 6 for most people.

Your jump rope is a bit too long but other than that great video. Great dynamic warmup ideas. Will be incorporating alot of it.
