It's the first sacred cantatas i've heard on ''Bach Celebration'' cd boxet in 2000; i still enjoy it ! The only thing i heard before, distracly, was the well-known air ''Jesus, joy of man's desiring''from Cantata BWV 147, and i learned quite well some German that isn't so hard !!!

Nein, im Urtext heißt es klar: Und ich bin Dein! Die zwei Duette Sopran/Bariton sind ein Dialog zwischen Christus und der gläubigen Seele: Zuerst: Wann kommst Du, mein Heil - Ich komme, Dein Teil (sehnsuchtsvoll/tröstend) und dann: die freudige Begegnung zwischen Seele und Christus/Braut und Bräutigam. Ist gute Auslegungstradition des Hohenliedes und auch des Gleichnisses von den klugen und törichten Jungfrauen in Mt 25. Und natürlich mit hoher Bibelkenntnis klasse in Musik umgesetzt!

I am kinda lucky to be introduced to this piece of music at my current age, i mean, it is not too late for me to get into the wonderful music that I did not ever listen to. Anyway, I am quite sure that appreciation in a concert hall is to be million times better than on here.

Indeed a million times better, it is a must do in life. And something you have to do to fully understand. This kind of music specially Bach´s make´s you feel something weird in your skin while you are listening to it. Now imagine how does it feel in a concert hall where real instruments are. Yes you are lucky!

@jamesch230 Yeah, the enjoyment of the two singers is apparent, the oboe solo is crisp, bouncy and obvious yet not intrusive; Ton Koopman is nicely supportive on the chamber organ and even the bassoon gets a 'look-in'. I too thought it was a shade fast, initially, especially after hearing older versions such as Richter/Muenchener Bach Chor/Dieskau/Mathis, but it kinda grows on you. Magic!

Yes, its a very nice version. But his pronunciation is a little bit "misfortunate". It sounds as if he is singing "und ich bin SEIN" but it has to be "und ich bin DEIN".

I dont think that Bach has had to boys in mind who are plediging their love to each other xD But if she sings "My friend is mine" and he answers "and I am his" instead of "and I am yours" its quite funny :)

Nope, it's "sein". The song is "My friend is mine, and I am His" in reference to God, not the opposite singer. "Dein" would've sounded more odd to me, but that's just my opinion.

if you want funny sounding lyrics listen to and put into context the piece "ich bin deine, du bist meine" from the Hercules Cantata.

The late Henry Drinker used to translate Bach lyrics into English just for fun (with occasional assists from yours truly). (He also had his own private Bach choir). The English translation was invariably better than the German original, which is not saying much. But given the glory of the music, who cares about the lyrics?
