termanogue. i read all ur posts. u seem to know a lot about tha NBA and euro basketball. its nice to see a pure basketball fan. the euro league is very under appreciated. btw im a barcelona fan in football too! but honestly.. i dont know if ur discussing this particulay game or not but i hope u dont think barcelona got the best out of the lakers here? this was lie a friendly match. kobe was injured and u can see the lakers didnt try. @jonkam10 it's not something to draw conclusions about, you have to understand that playing over 100 games in the NBA is really tiring on the body, on top of that not only did they play more than 100 games last year but the year before that and then the year before that one, so Three years in a row more than 100 games, no including practices and all that, so what happens when the season ends? Most of the players take a break and don't touch the ball.

@jonkam10 In other words, this was their 2 game since june, more than three months of not playing together, new players and phil jackson playing rookies (he never plays rookies) I'm sure the lakers wouldn't be able to beat a mediocre team that had practiced over the summer in those conditions (which they did, they lost against Minnesota in their first game- mediocre team) even under those conditions barcelona barely won, so just think if the lakers were in season shape, it wouldn't even be close

@AdreasTheGreat I disagree, NBA teams have far more talent than european teams, we even have most of your best players too so that just shows that Europe can't even compare. If the players acknowledge this, which they do, then it shouldn't be much of a problem for you to accept that the NBA is far better as well.

Trust me, if the good american players playing in europe could get good playing time/ good money (if teams even want them in the first place), they'd play for the NBA. Just look at josh Childress who was doing really well in europe, he's not making headlines over here in the NBA. Not even as an over the top back up.

@termanogue He can't get (consistently) even half the minutes that he got in europe, WHY? because there are players that in the same amount of minutes could do more, both offensively and defensively. You can't really judge players, like Brown and Steve (although I do think they are really knowledgeable; and Brown, athletic) from stats alone, Phil Jacksons coaching method is pretty unique, requiring more than offensive points in order to help the team win.

@AdreasTheGreat Like I said before, that was their second game in 3 months (literally) They obviously weren't in shape, for three years consecutively they had played, not only 82 regular season games in each but an average of more than 20 games extra games in each, in other words more than 100 games each season so collectively they played more than 300 games up to that point and gasol and kobe had played for their national teams, this was the first real summer where they took it completely off.

Barca could probably beat some other NBA teams, but they wouldn't be contenders to be champions, the season is way to long and the greats teams starters and depth are just too good. Just look at the Timberwolves, the lakers played them a game before they played Barca, and the game wasn't even close, timberwolves won, how is their season going?? 17-56

If Barca and lakers played 10 games, lakers would easily win 9 out of 10. Barca is no where near an elite team in the NBA. Maybe if you continue to be a basketball fan overall you will come to realize this, however from the logic I'm presenting now it's obvious you won't realize this now.

No it's a good thing, if they played for the national team that means that they are coming into their second game not being away from basketball (unlike the lakers) in other words they're in basketball shape mentally and physically. The only player that played for the national team over the summer was odom and as you can see it was a good thing because he was playing well.

NO ONE TOUCHED A BASKETBALL FOR THREE, 3, months. In other words, OUT OF SHAPE, MENTALLY and PHYSICALLY. Kobe for example had surgery on his knee, so he definitely didn't touch the ball AT ALL up until training camp, which was AT EUROPE. Gasol was instructed not to, etc etc

@AdreasTheGreat Doesn't matter how good you are in whatever sport you play, if you're away from it for 3 months ( I mean completely away from it, no pick up games or anything) and you face a pretty good opponent, there's no way I'd expect that person or team to win bar none. It takes time to get back in rhythm or shape, Barca may have not been in rhythm as a team, but at least some of their players were in shape, mentally and physically. And then to draw conclusions from it, is ridiculous.

@AdreasTheGreat Last time I checked, some MLS teams beat english premier teams last summer, and At least one of them, if I remember correctly, beat Real Madrid, but you don't see me drawing conclusions from that, why, because I know it's silly. There's no way the MLS measures up to the EPL or La Liga. As for international Bball comp, USA didn't even have to send our veteran players to win the metal last summer, the younger players played against the worlds national teams and still got gold.

@termanogue if u see euroleague match u'll notice has many similaraties with a nba match than in 80's for example.the main difference is that in europe there is more passing game and more shots cause there arent so big room to penetrate than nba(3sec.defensive rule,no hanchecking,bigger court than past are responsible for this) plus zone def.is much more often than nba.this is the main reason superstars cant penetrate so much in national team than in nba matches that zone is almost forbidden.

@termanogue more teams mean less good teams since talent shares more.it;s not accidenlty that in 70's-80's untill middle 90's many teams had 2-3 superstars and now there aren't excpet 3-4 teams.for example did u know that in 70's almost all teams(20) had HOF ecxept bulls but had many good players(love,sloan,van lier,walker) and made playoffs almost every year.expansion in middle 90's forced nba teams take players with less talent that wouldn't play in nba before.

Okur was not a good player... 18 pts and 8 Reb is what I'd expect from a lengthy PF who's starting. Kirelenko is average, All Stojakobic can do is shoot.

Scola is soft, so is pau. Good players, but too soft. However I will say Euroleague is closer than ever.
