Actually your voice is very close to Jon Mclaughlin's. Some advice...

1. Enunciate. You tend to sing a little nasally so your O's sound more like ah's

2. I understand it's an emotional song, but take the crying notes out of it. if you listen to Jon's version you'll notice he doesn't have it like that. Sing it gently and with feeling and depth. But cut down on the drama.
