Somebody has posted a sign on Barton Skyway in South Austin near the public art piece stacked in the bushes that consists of a bunch of orange-and-white traffic barricades. Caution, the black-and-yellow sign warns as you approach South Lamar Boulevard from the west. Bad Art Ahead. Not everybody would agree with that statement, however. The City of Austin put up $4,300 for the project, approved by the citys Arts Commission,
I know it's that what constitutes art is not easy to define, and pushing the envelope, so to speak, is what keeps it new and fresh and popping. I think, however, that the only true way to define what is or is not art is by personal interpretation. You know art when you see it, and to me this is most definitely NOT art. It's neglected road construction.
thinkbrite and riddlorecve, quit crying already. The city donated $4,300 from hotel-motel tax (not actually "our" taxes btw), Steve Dubov (the artist) contributed another $4,300, and then other private interests covered $10,000 to $14,000. And it'll all be gone by mid-June.
Since you two "art critics" are so outspoken, maybe you should take an active role in the Arts Commission rather than bitching on YouTube.
this sucks!! its not art... no one the barton hills like this junk. look like they needed space to stash unwanted barriers. so they got paid to sick them in the bush and call it art. what a joke that are taxes paid!!!
Some people, it seems, choose to define 'art' the same way that they define 'morality': they just 'know it when I see it'.

I think it was about 45-50. We had 35-37 delivered to the site on the day and I think Steve had another 12 or so already at his studio.
