There probably aren't very many people who have heard of a vanadium redox battery. It uses vanadium ions in two different oxidation states in a solution of sulfuric acid.
Ammonium metavanadate, NH4VO3, is used to make Mandelin's reagent, which is used along with Marquis reagent in presumptive drug testing. It's also quite toxic and mutagenic in many species.
suggestion: maybe reduce an acidic solution of vanadium (V) with zinc amalgam? for a new video? yellow -> blue -> green -> lilac with varying amounts of shaking
I humbly suggest that you demonstrate the different colors of vanadium salts. If you plan to redo this video, you might want to demonstrate the colored substances formed when sodium vanadate is dissolved in acid and mixed with zinc amalgam.
I like this guy, he's a genius! I love science! Too bad I didn't learn squat in grade school! Most of my teachers were idiots... I've learned more on my own then I EVER did at school! 5/5!
I think that guy with the vanadium hexacarbonyl learned a lesson: There's a reason why the suppliers ship stuff in annoyingly-difficult-to-open containers...
Could you please make a newer version of this video, perhaps showing the various oxidation states vanadium can exist it. I've learnt about them at A-Level, but I'm yet to see all of them!
I got vanadium in my vitamins

Vanadium steel is some nice stuff. Knives made out of it take a razor sharp edge very easily.

... and you can see that it's about 0.1 mm in diameter... a truely well-trained scientist. LoL

...not to mention the "chrom-vanadium" alloy used for screwdrivers and all sorts of metalware and tools.

Grade 5 Titanium uses 4% Vanadium. It's really tough. I've broken a lathe and loads of tools cutting grade 5 titanium.

@stuntpea
Yep; that's why it's called 6Al-4V. It is 6% aluminum and 4% vanadium.

@douro20 I thought 4V meant 4-volt!

Professional quality tools sometimes have a Crome Vanadium (CV) finnish. The finnish is very hard, wear resistant, protects from corrosion.

@trespire I did not know what CV meant... thank you

Does anybody know the cost of vanadium? If not a sight that says the cst? I am doing a school project and have everything except the cost...

Vanadium is also an extremely effective spermicide.

Vanadium pentoxide (V2O5) is also used as a catalyst in the contact process for making concentrated sulphuric acid.
cmcshane06 2 years ago 5
Vanadium pentoxide is controlled? by the police? army?

No why? I can buy vanadium pentoxide at my ceramics store without any problems.
