he asks the guy to flat his han and then puts the crystal near his nuckles wihc makes hard to balance the crystal in his hand so he needs to keep his hand straight to balance it and since he speaks while he has his hand on top of the mug it get tired, so it makes it hard for him to lift it up with 2 fingers
hmm but even if a piece of crystal is on his hand, and he has to balance it, and if he has a hand on top of the mug for just like 20 seconds, shouldn't he me able to lift a 200gram mug?

There is an electro magnet in the cup/table. That is why when Martin picks the mug up the 2nd time he gets him to set it back on the table, because if they turned the magnet on when it was already raised it would have been obvious to him that it was being pulled down at will.
if you were to have a electromagnet in or under the table, strong enough to resist this mans lifting power, the frequency of the current running through it would make the magnet and thus the entire table hum and vibrate like crazy, wich i think both we and mr Arthur would have heard/noticed.

I don't think it is mainly NLP, or not at all. You can do this kind of trick to some of your friends quite easily. For an example, the two pencil trick where you force your friend to force two pencils together very hard, where you then you act like you wrap the pencils together with a string. They will feel as if they pencil is somewhat stuck or attracting each other if done correctly. But basically, it's just the mind being susceptive to the idea of invisible force.

There is abit of truth in energy direction, try lifting a heavy object whilst focusing on the bottom of it, and you'll find its heavier to lift, then lift it again and try focusing on the top of it and you'll find its much lighter.
its got nothing tu du with the crystals, all derren brown does is tell him to feel week. if you put your friends arm up and tell them to keepp repeating to themselves to be week and they will feel weak, push there arm down and it will be easy to push there arm down. Same with feeling strong.
And than he goes on to tell him that he is weaker and weaker. the rest is easy, when he believes it and is subconsciously induced to create the effect.
Every time Derren says "genuinely trying" his subconscious tries to make the effect work more and more.

Then, with the pencil, all he had to do was fire off the emotional anchor (weakness) associated with the crystal by both using the presupposition try and then saying to feel that weakness. He could have also brought on trance by rapid induction pattern interupt handshake when he put the pencil in the guys hand, I didn't see it clearly.
Also the small hand gestures and words like "tiny" coupled with references to a "large" crystal although it was in fact quite small thus giving it mental weight
(same reason he was explaining the molecule thing before and failing to tell him that all things composed of atoms vibrate, not just crystals). Then he tells him "As you try (try is a presupposition that they can't do it) to lift it imagine that weakness just flowing into your body, ect". He has just implanted the idea that the crystal will weaken him and because he believes the crystal to work he will listen to the suggestion and feel weaker.
People who do not believe this obviously know very little of hypnosis or NLP. The simple fact of the matter is that, in this case, what Derren is doing is SIMPLE! Its merely stage hypnosis. The crystal hides the fact that all he really is doing is weakening the guy with hypnosis. It all starts at the two minute mark when Derren begins saying how it works because he expects it to work, thus putting the hypnotic presupposition that the quartz does work

its got nothing tu du with the crystals, all derren brown does is tell him to feel week. if you put your friends arm up and tell them to keepp repeating to themselves to be week and they will feel weak, push there arm down and it will be easy to push there arm down. Same with feeling strong.

Every time Derren says "genuinely trying" his subconscious tries to make the effect work more and more.

To James: Some people are more hypnotizable then others. But also hypnotism is based on belief. If he didn't make the guy believe or feel like he was getting weaker it wouldn't work. Its part of the point, most of what we can or can't do is mental.
To Rob: You failed to see the words "In this case" written in my sentence. This I can do, and some other small feats but the big things Derren does I cannot (such as reading people, memory tricks, advanced hypnosis, ect).

Then, with the pencil, all he had to do was fire off the emotional anchor (weakness) associated with the crystal by both using the presupposition try and then saying to feel that weakness. He could have also brought on trance by rapid induction pattern interupt handshake when he put the pencil in the guys hand, I didn't see it clearly.

(same reason he was explaining the molecule thing before and failing to tell him that all things composed of atoms vibrate, not just crystals). Then he tells him "As you try (try is a presupposition that they can't do it) to lift it imagine that weakness just flowing into your body, ect". He has just implanted the idea that the crystal will weaken him and because he believes the crystal to work he will listen to the suggestion and feel weaker.

People who do not believe this obviously know very little of hypnosis or NLP. The simple fact of the matter is that, in this case, what Derren is doing is SIMPLE! Its merely stage hypnosis. The crystal hides the fact that all he really is doing is weakening the guy with hypnosis. It all starts at the two minute mark when Derren begins saying how it works because he expects it to work, thus putting the hypnotic presupposition that the quartz does work

Partly what sets Derren Brown apart from others is that he says at the end 'all that stuff I told you about mobile phones and crystals is rubbish'. You can sense him continuously adjusting his behaviour to fit his participant- he assumes, or knows, that Martin Freeman is sceptical- he does not want to undermine that so he confirms that to him but also suggests a reasonable, and quite commonly held belief that there are vibrations in crystals- it's nonsense- there are no more vibrations in them
