If you are thinking about buying this camera, do not buy it. There is a common 'sticky blades' problem that many x100 will eventually get due to the design of the lens in the x100. So far to date, Fujifilm has not even publicly acknowledged this problem. Shocking for a $1000+ premium camera. You can read about all the x100 owners complaining about it on the Fujifilm Talk forum on DPreview. Until Fujifilm acknowledges this issue, stay away from the x100!!
The manual focus really really lets the camera down.
Tempting to buy, but can't make use of the (very cool) hybrid VF if I have to be on EVF the whole time in order to focus. And fly-by-wire focusing is too unnatural to use. If I wanted auto-focus, I'd go DSLR.. the whole point of this ought to be simplicity for street shots.
Ditch the cutsey features (video, motion pano etc.) and focus on basics (focusing, speed), and I'd buy. Top marks for the look of the camera and controls though!
Interesting vid, introducing the basics of the Camera......this is a bit piccy I know, however if you are producing a video proclaiming the virtues of optical equipment (cameras / video) then please get your white balance correct.....unless the walls, your shirts, the picture frames and both of your skin tones are magnolia....easy to do, so 'get it right'.
@ApologiaTV One is small, the other is medium so not exactly the same. Since the shirts are trademark "Fuji Guys", they will continue to be used for every episode. We will also not wash them to give them the authentic Fuji Guys smell.
you should just let the asian dude do the video because the white guy just sits there and repeats a word every once in a while. you can save on paying him for not doing a damn thing...
Can you focus on some cool video features in future models. If you are going to stay with a fixed lens how about a electronic optical zoom in video mode.
@fujiguys No I don't believe in digital zooms as they degrade quality. I am talking about a motor that moves the actual lens in and out for an optical zoom. Digital zoom can be done if post if absolutely necessary.
@sarawing Change the aperture from "A" to any other value and you now have the camera in aperture priority mode. Change the shutterspee from "A" to any other value and you now have the camera in shutter priority mode. Change both the aperture and shutterspeed from "A" and you now have the camera in Full Manaul control. Get it?
@eclipsucks on this video? or on the X100. The X100 does allow you to adjust WB in video recording from presets to custom. You can also adjust the exposure a little via the Exposure compensation button. Currently, ISO, Shutterspeed can not be adjusted manually. Aperture however can be set.
@fujiguys Thanks for the reply. I thought a teleconverter had to be specific to the camera so it's good to hear what you say. I understand there has to be some hit on quality (and light transmission) but it could still make a good candid portrait camera. So would the EVF show the actual picture to be taken (while the OVF shows the original scene) ?
@flutophilus I said you can connect any 49mm accessory to the X100 with the help of the Optional Adapter Ring for the X100. I can't confirm functionality however of the accessories, i.e. using a teleconverter, you may have vignetting since the camera has a 35mm angle of view. 2nd questions, OVF is a optical view, there is a frame that tells you what the camera will capture, once you press half way down, the frame also adjust to parallax. The EVF is a view via the image sensor so you get 100%
The image samples that are floating around online are horrible. Partially because of the photographer... but, you should better control the samples that are coming out. Get better photographers instead of noobs. Also, the fly by wire focus and aperture controls are huge let downs.... doesnt Fuji have an AFS type motor?
@JogBird Thank you for your concerns on the manual focus feature. The next version of the X100 will be designed to be twice the thickness just so that we can implement this feature :-)

does anyone know if this camera does focus lock, i mean i just use the af and then hold the camera and move the camera?
lagook 9 months ago
@lagook Yes it does. AFL = Auto Focus Lock, AEL = Auto Exposure Lock, hence the AFL/AEL button can be configured just like a DSLR.

Same clothes? Either they're from the future or this was done in China and it's a state-mandated nerd uniform.

@Lifeintakes Electronic meaning "digital zoom" feature. There is already a digital zoom feature but its 1 step (at 3x).

@Lifeintakes :-) The lens wouldn't be fixed anymore if there was a motor that moves the actual lens in and out.

I think it should be
Change the aperture ring from any other value TO "A", it's in "A" mode
Change the shutter dial from any other value TO "A", it's in "S" mode.
Change both Aperture ring and Shutter dial TO "A" , it's in "P" mode.

@fujiguys So it is a fixed 35mm equiv lens. No zoom option? Is it lens interchangeable?
ponchoso 11 months ago
@ponchoso Yes, fixed 35mm equiv lens. Zoom depends on how long your arms are :-). X100 is not interchangeable.
