somehow i went from ray bingham doing the weary kind to this in twenty minutes. now, i haven't listed to much country and this is the first time i've listened to hank but that man is really enjoying performing. that i can dig.
My mom had an album years ago that had Hank's song "Soft Lips" on it. I would love to hear that song again by Hank. He has a great voice for the ballads I feel. This old song was on the same album I believe. Thank you if you know if "Soft Lips" is available anywhere to put on YouTube and thanks so much for posting this one. - Paula
I’m a youngster, only 51, and I love Hank! When I was a kid, I had a 45-RPM called ‘Hangover Tavern’ in my box of records, and it is a wonderful bouncy song. His style, clear voice, and awesome backup band will never be matched! God bless him.
my grandma who died last year on my birthday. :( loved Hank . she was from cameron TX and saw Hank T many times. and also married a Sailor my grandpa. this song takes me back. i'm only 25 jammin to this stuff. whoah sailor!
I love everything Hank has ever sung. What a neat catchy tune here. My hubby is a Navy veteran and I feel he could have identified with this song ! We watched "Star Route" years ago and it's good to see actor Rod Cameron here in this video. I never missed a western he starred in. Hank's passing really saddened us. A wonderful singer who always seemed to be smiling. Thank you. - Paula
Hank wrote this when he came out of the Navy after World War 2. Tex Ritter heard him and got him a contract with Capitol Records. Rose Maddox did a great version with her brothers. It was done as a dialog between the sailor and a waitress. It may be the only case of someone doing a better version of a song than Hank's original.
According to the press release today (7 Nov 07), he wanted no funeral. But he requested a "celebration of life" at "Billy Bob's Texas", a honky tonk saloon in Ft. Worth. So long, Hank. Give Porter Wagoner my regards.
We've lost another legend. My only Hank LP is called The Thompson Touch, with his great version of Don't Get Around Much Anymore. I'm sure they must have a great honky tonk swing band in heaven, even though it wasn't god that made honky tonk angels...
lost one of the great ones, i grew up with his music from my mom, we always used to play the "live at the Golden Nugget'' album around the house, i, was lucky enough to find it a few years back on Cd,, god bless ya Hank, Rest In Peace

Anyone know, is that Dorothy (Hank's wife) at the end of the clip in the sailor uniform? Sure looks close to her physical size?

Great song. Was this song originally a Maddox Brother and Rose tune, or was Hank's version the original?
