this reminds me of my Grandma (I consider her mom) and she's been stung before with no signs of allergies until she mistakenly disturbed a hive and got attacked. After that she was allergic. I hate the fact that you see these things nests above and below ground, it's really annoying.
I was mowing for a friend who's sick today and unfortunately I ran over one of these holes with the mower. I didn't notice the hole until right after I went over it and saw several wasps flying out of the hole. I started running but it was too late. They stung me all over. My legs, arms, and head. I ran into my friends house but didn't realize some came in with me. They stung him inside too.
And whats worse is I didn't know he was alergic ti bee stings and the area's he was stung swelled right up so his wife had to rush him to the hospital. He's really pissed off at me now. But what could I do? I panicked and wanted to get away from the constant stinging. Plus he never told me about his alergy. I feel really bad now. And sore.
in my back yard there was a bee hole hive in our back ground today and my dog was laying right by it and so i looked this up. i looked this up because i never seen bee's under ground
I've been stung by these a few times. They have a habit of building nests in the azaleas and other shrubbery here and then you start trimming and surprise! Worst sting I've had so far was from some angry brown wasp that stung me on the arm near my wrist. Over the next couple of days my arm puffed up all the way up to my shoulder. And that was *with* benadryl and nsaids.
Wait untill its dark outside, then light a road flare and shove it in their hole, just the smoke from a road flare is very toxic and will kill all of them in a few seconds, plus they get roasted too.
yay im not allergic cuz I think I got stung by one when I was in elementery school and IT HURTS LIKE HELL! lol dun worry I get stung all the time [also injected with numming stuff for me to get teeth pulled but thats another story...] ^ ^'
I think we all oughta wear be suits while cutting the grass, because I got stung simply because I bumped the mower into a abandoned clothes-line pole we have, and small nest of 5 red-wasps, one popped me on the ear, and gave me the "Clark Gable" treatment! Want to get even? Pour a gallon of water down that hole, and for added fun, set up some blown up black balloons! Because they will pop them from the dark color they HATE, and the carbon dioxide will enrage them even WORSE!! :-D
@Landaux O had almost same experience. After bumping pole, 5 angry reds buzzed inches from my face. By all rights, I should have taken at least 5 stings. What prevented it? Not my speed; they had me well in no escape range. But I just had time to yell "NO" some say the spoken word creates physical results. In my experience, that is sometimes true. Polistes Carolina are mean SOB's and one sting hurts like freaking hell. The wasps hovered, I backed slowly off. Their anger switch was "ON."

Freakin' nasty things. There's always a nest around here almost every year...and it's hard to spot them before it's too late.
