@TeamJeaneus All of the questions we have... our religions and philosphies... our science and our art, without humanity to maintain them, will disintegrate in time. That does not mean that the universe ceases to exist. Solipsism is a philosphical hamster wheel that someone with way too much time on their hands and not enough insight dreamed up. That's what it really comes down to.
@TeamJeaneus The reason is simply this: Things exist whether or not we exist to perceive them. Let me give you an example. Assume John Doe will not be born until April 12th, 2034. He does not yet exist but for the sake of argument we know he will. The world he will be occupying exists, at present because we perceive it to exist according to Solipsism. Now, does the world not exist simply because John Doe does not currently exist and is therefore unable to perceive it? -more
Solipsism seems to be really heavily tied to Buddhism in particular. The point I'm trying to make is this: Ask yourself, would an apple still reflect certain light waves to produce what we perceive as red or green if we didn't exist to perceive it? Does a tree that falls in the woods with no one to hear the crash make a crash? Yes they do. It's not that complicated.
This is stupid. As if nothing could exist without people to perceive it. This is typical of humanity. People believe this for the same reasons they once believed the sun revolved around the earth. It's egocentricity... nothing more. Would anyone like to debate this?
@BroJeetKune I have a possible answer... Opposition. To observe something you must have a contrast to what you observe, ex: you know what "hot" is because it's held in contrast with "cold" (or less warm etc), Or good, it could not exist without evil. So in all, everything gives definition to its opposite. Consider the first experience a mind must have but of existence itself, existence/self awareness. Your existence gives definition to it's opposite. The first experience held in contrast too...
@BroJeetKune How could a mind realize itself with out the contrast of it not realizing itself? Everything has to be contrasted against it's "lack thereof" to be observed, with the exception of the "first" realization which is actually because of non-existence (not in contrast to because that doesn't apply, you cannot realize non-existence if you don't exist. is that to confusing? I can try to clarify more...
@TeamJeaneus I agree that in order to perceive something we have to know its opposite... to a degree. However your argument reinforces my argument that Solipsism (and people) are egocentric in that our perception (or lack thereof) of an entity does not necessarily validate or invalidate its existence. My point is: We don't need to perceive something in order for it to exist. In other words, perception is absolutely not a requisite to existence. It's also why verifiable evidence is so important.
The ancients were not speaking metaphorically when they said "the world is within you".. They meant it quite literally because it's an undeniable truth. Cool vid!
If you alter your consciousness to the point where the self dissipates then you won't be in any state of mind or ego where there is any belief system involved. Pure consciousness, total awarness. All entities are equal, there is no higher and no lower other what is believed by an entity. We are one, think about the times when you have felt someone looking at you or they felt your attention. It's all the same consciousness, we are just different perspectives of it. Each one as valid as another.
We see symbols and hear symbols that refer to words or numbers. Pixels assembled in a pattern is not what a number is, it is like the sound: merely a symbol that refers to the number.
@gklr Concepts only exist because we believe they do. If you don't believe a concept exists, then to you it doesn't. You should try watching the whole video, it might help your understanding.
@gklr you understand that the entire idea of solipsism is that nothing exists except what the mind thinks exists, right? so everything you're saying doesn't make sense because nothing exists in the first place. not numbers, languages, objects, elements, everything. The idea is NOTHING truly exists.
Things don't exist or not based on beliefs. People can believe whatever they like about what exists, it doesn't make it so.
Well people can believe anything proposed, that is not a truth or a falsehood. Beliefs must be both possibly true and possibly false at the same time.
@makohit , so it nothing exist but the mind, who's mind is in control or reality? Suppose me and someone on the other side of the world were both solipsist but we didn't know each other. That would mean that either I or that person didn't exist and that would not be true in reality, probably by perception it would be true, but certainly not by reality.
Yup just like the concept of God. If you want to believe it then you can make it "real" as with anything else. That's why us "humans" or "blobs in the ocean" or "bunnies" do some CRAZY SHIT. NIce concept nice vid.
You are all that is and yet you are nothing all at once. Every entity is your creation and you are their creation all at once, each one is as valid as another and yet it is all an illusion, but not insignificant. You and every other entity are one, different angles of the one consciousness. A "mind" is a human consciousness concept. Our reality seems complicated because that validates that it is "real" Your reality is a reflection of the beliefs you hold without exception.

@BroJeetKune The world is an objective reality, not a subjective reality dependant on individual perception. That's just ridiculous.

The number 22 has no feel, no smell, no taste, no sound and cannot be seen.
Solipsism is ridiculous.

@gklr I'm pretty sure i can see this- "22"

@makohit,
If I don't believe a concept exists, is true, then I have said nothing about me at all. When I didn't exist, I didn't believe any concepts exist
1+1=2 is not a belief and is a concept. It is a truth statement and conceptual
The earth has water on it is true and not conceptual, it speaks about material things
We prove abstract concepts exist via tautologous truths and we prove the existence of physical objects via empirical truths
