I can hear the accent. Singing is singing, the up and down tones of certain accents changes, depending on the music. Listen to it properly. For example, at abut 2:45, he goes "Then you wink at me and walk away"... his pronunciation of "walk" is British. Same with "even when the sky is falling down" in his song "Down"... the "falling" is British too.

I don't think he's Americanising anything, the pitch changes in his words are due to the melody, moreso than any pretension on his part.
