Ethiopia after being landlocked in 1991-93, have not had any amicable relationship with their coastal neighbours, Eritrea and Somalia. Rather, border conflict arose and escalated further after being landlocked. Even if not conclusive, it shows that one can not assume amicability only for being landlocked.

A paper can be written by several students in some cases but in general by an individual and it takes a lot fo work. I am working toward my PHD now in Canada and it takes more reading and research that I could have imagined. Even though Russia may not be the USSR, they maintained about 85% of their military strength and are an energy superpower.
They have the power to defeat China within days and can still take the US head on.

He criticizes India for not keeping pace with chinese growth or infrastructure, but he forgets that China is authoritarian and government controlled and so when there is no opposition, it is easy to force citizens to build roads and bridges or work for low pay.

Usually appreciate TED and their excellent speakers, but I see some flaws in his logic.
He mentioned landlocked countries seeking amicable relations with theor neighbours. Ethiopia after being landlocked in 1991-93, have not had any amicable relationship with their coastal neighbours, Eritrea and Somalia. Rather, border conflict arose and escalated further after being landlocked. Even if not conclusive, it shows that one can not assume amicability only for being landlocked.

ye it does seem oil will be the blood of the world for at least 30 more years if I were to take a guess. maybe much longer given the fact that new technologies take time to establish, cost money and although the industrialised countries may adapt them quicker many regions of the world will go with what is cheaper (not just the fuels but also the common technologies) and the oil countries will find themselves new customers.
