very nice drill... i'm no expert, but i think the lady's aim is a little to her right... she doesn't have a good balance... and she over extends her arms, which probably the reason why she leans a little too forward... very impressive though... 5stars!!!
Very nice drill - never thought of using the microwave timer but I'll do that myself sometime. Wondering if your 1911's are condition 1 for the drill - if so it would be good to put disengaging the safety and dryfiring (with snap caps of course) in the drill...very cool vid - and cute baby
I like the video! After viewing it yourself. You may have discovered. That you are bending and leaning forward before drawing your gun. Try drawing the gun before bending and leaning forward. You may discover your movement is throwing you off in grabbing your gun. This may also increase your speed as well. Keep up the great videos.
just a quick remark on your position from a absolute noob and absolutlely un-knowledgeable person about guns . i noticed you are making a C when positioning for fire or when drawing. wouldn't that be a bit unstable considering you may have to fire several times and absorb the recoil ? i guess my questions wouldn't moving your foot (either one ) back or taking a step forward or something be more stable ? i will repeat tho absolute noob here! :-)
@romeoneverdies It's called the isosceles stance, based on what people tend to do when under stress, like a defense gunfight. You hunker down, lean forward and hold your arms out.
Its great to see couples doing this sort of thing. My wife is about to get into it, and it is a great piece of mind for a guy that your wife has a chance to defend herself in a bad situation. Why be defenseless? People need to remember 99% of the work owning a gun is everything about it, handling it and handling its malfunctions, before breaking the shot.
If you look at the video you will notice that the speed to target, after clearing the holster, is where the major slow down is. The gun is too heavy for your wrist strength to bring it up to target. Work out some, or use a lighter gun. I really enjoy all your videos. Thanks for posting them.

Ive heard a couple horror stories about the Serpa holster. Pressing the release button and then accidentally pulling the trigger when it comes out. Again, I've heard about them, but never seen it happen.
@darkstararmory There's no way for the retention to activate the trigger on a Serpa, those stories are just urban legends. Now the potential for the release to get gummed up with stuff and not let you draw your pistol is very real if you go to the ground outdoors.
@Drog007 So you would rather use a thumb break holster? This is important to me cause I'm going LE soon and I really would like to take out my handgun when I need to. I was considering the SERPA system. but now....kinda iffy
@darkstararmory Depends on the environment. No one piece of gear is ever ALWAYS better than everything else. If you're wearing a serpa concealment with a suit jacket chances are you aren't going to get it gummed up with anything and it will likely work great for you. If you anticipate rolling around on the ground with it unprotected, then a thumb break is probably going to be a better bet for you. Just my .02.
Ha ha, your baby was trying to press the buttons on the microwave.
Why does everyone safety check guns with their little finger? Why not use your index finger? Maybe I'm just strange and would safety check a gun with my index finger.
@Delta094204 Some people check with their little finger because it's the only one that they can really fit far into the chamber to do a good check. Like my husband. He has big fingers and can't really fit an index finger deep into the chamber for a thorough check.. Me? I could use my thumb if I wanted to...lol
What you need are some blowback airsoft guns for indoor practice, set up some targets, practice drawing and running the range... show your husband just how good you are. Not as fun as shooting the real thing, but it beats just sitting in front of the tv because the range is soaking wet or under 3 feet of snow. Great to see both of you sharing something that is fun but also life saving. He is a lucky man.
Lima, have you ever thought about a thigh holster...or maybe a cross draw...watching you I think you might feel more comfortable with it...and I have found that comfort is the key...to being proficient...at least that I have been taught...
All in all, it looks like you two spend QUALITY time together....and sweet kid...too..

@romeoneverdies Yeah , but i think it's self evident that a gun isn't loaded for practicing non-shoot stuff. I mean who the fuck do something like that with a loaded weapon???
This holster can wear out your guns finish around the trigger guard and ossibly other places so be careful if its a new gun i hope thats not the wilson combat on the serpa!

lol... I hear ya, Lima! Then again... ya know what I've found over the years??
On a serious note... the "toughest" people... are also among the most gentle, the most sincere, the most caring. Because they truly understand what it means "to do harm". Whereas others believe they know what it means via movies or other unreal things.
So, thanks for the continued vids. Your husband & you make me honestly consider the importance of protecting my fiancee'... and myself! Just in case... :)
@limalife LOL! Here's what I loved... when mommy and daddy practice drawing guns (usually associated with a sign of aggression.) kid chuckles gleefully.
However...when mom and dad shows a sign of affection and starts kissing..kid goes "buuuuuuuAAAAAAAAAAH!!!! xO" made me chuckle XD
the level2 is my range/match holster, luv it, one you get used to it, it just feels natural to have your finger on the lock when drawing. you'll draw fast and smooth in no time. :)
I might also add that it can also use the mic on your iPhone to act as a shot indicator. So it will actually time how fast after the first beep if took for you to take a shot. It's really fun if your with friends because you can see who the fastest shot is...Then you can do speed/accuracy tests.
If you have an iPhone theres actually an app that's called shot-timer you can download. You can set it so the beep is random, or so that it beeps at a set time everytime. You can also set a par time where it basically beeps again after a specified time (user designated) to time other drills such as speed reloads. So the first beep would be pulling out the gun and dry firing it, and then before the next beep you would perform a speed reload. I have my time to 1 1/2 seconds from beep to beep.
I'm looking for good CC holster. I'm looking at iwb or high ride owb. It looks like owb would be more comfortable. Was looking at tt gunleather or Rusty Sherrick high ride. What would u suggest?
It's great the whole family gets to have fun doing this together.
My wife is remarkably tolerant of all my firearms considering she could care less about them personally. However drawing practice does freak her out so I'm relegated to doing it by myself in the basement (woah, that sounded really bad!).
Awesome!! When you guys set the timer, you can set it for three times at once. Just hit "Time" "Start" (desired time) then hit "Time" (desired time[considering the time it takes to re-holster]) then "Time" and (desired time[considering the time it takes to re-holster]) . Most microwaves allow three different times.
One of the biggest things I've noticed about the SERPA holster is that those who are used to straight drawing (either from a retention holster or not) have trouble with the button release. With the same amount of upward pressure that you'd exert drawing from a thumbbreak holster, there's too much pressure on the button and it won't release. I've seen several law enforcement officers struggle with this. It can be corrected, but like everything else, it takes time to train it out of you!
I use an Inside the Waist Band holster for when I'm covering it up with just a shirt (summer) and a small of back for the winter (which then only requires a jacket that isn't tight).
I'm a big guy though (tall not wide) which I think makes it easier since most of my clothes end up being loose fitting by default.
Limalifes arms and hands seem to be longer than her husbands, this is why she has to arch her back and slide her right leg back to clear the holster, which is fine because she just transitions into her lower firing stance, he has shorter arms and narrow hips which let's him place the gun differently on his hip awesome vid 5/5!!
Wow first I thought it was going to be a cooking vid Than I thought it was a shooting vid Than I thought it was going to be a sex vid But it turned out to be a child care vid-- You Guys
good training!!! litl bit about your lags stand remember thet shape more stabile!? it is a piramide! bekose its triangle. and one more but off topik. to known about your chaild behaver in the end of the video, reed a Freids books (i em 2 yare full time student of psychology study program. (its just to known thet i not by my salf sad thet)
@NoSavageNation you're absolutely right. My wife and I watched this together and it was like seeing ourselves. Beautiful. Down to earth. Patriotic Americans.
Your kid is so cute. My daughter does the same thing. Sometimes she will actually shake her finger at my husband and say "No, No Daddy" if he tries to kiss me.
I explained this in another video but I will again. I have been trained to put my off hand on my chest closest to the firearm. For a woman you can see what that means. This keeps you from accidentally shooting your off hand if you have to shoot from retention and also helps your hands come together on the firearm for a firm two-handed grip faster.
If you practice planting your support hand on your chest (or stomach, like her hubby... as long as you're consistent) on the draw, you know for certain that it's not wandering around in front of the muzzle. Consistency is key in the draw because that helps ensure your safety and means that you're building proper muscle memory each time you draw.
i noticed that limalife's arms are a bit longer than her hubby's, her fingers are lower on her leg (like most womens are) which is why she has to sort of hunch and bring her right leg back to make it easier to clear her holster, the only thing i can think of to help would be to lower the holster and maybe cant it forward?? when experimenting with holster placement trying weird angles even if the angle doesent seem right sometimes yields interesting results! a cute vid 5/5!
Hey you two, get a room, lol. Very good drill. U could put something in there as ur getting ready for dinner and practice at the same time. Heat daw, heat daw, heat draw.............eat
Very cute and endearing. :) I know you've had more training than I have, so I'll ask a silly question. When you draw and bend down, is that for stability, ease of aiming, making yourself a smaller target mass, or a little of everything? I want your logic and thoughts on it. I'm generally in a weak-foot-forward stance. I'm certain I have some bad habits that could use breaking. My military training is kind of rusty these days. I could still hold my own, but there's always room for improvement.
I don't think I would care for all clicking - clacking of the Serpa holster and seems to ridged, seems like it would pinch & poke while wearing it. I'm old school, a nice leather holster might be better.
BTW: Contact Hallmark, the embrace scene can be their next ST. Valentine's Day card "Tell her you love her, by drilling together" :-)
You both draw weird, only an opinion, you move your shoulders and body too much... excess movement, have either of you tried shooting IPSC or IDPA? How's the SERPA holster for 1911's though? I had one for baby eagle and my finger always ended up directly on the trigger, which i didn't like because of a chance of accidental discharge... I prefer my finger right up against the frame when i draw.
Good to know, although IDPA is more "realistic" than IPSC, in my opinion, i'd suggest trying to shoot IPSC Production as it's more "popular" than IDPA, at least up here in Canada it is. I'd also suggest, if you havn't already, picking up videos from Matt Burkett. I really learned how to draw quickly watching his videos.
A couple years ago, I also was taught how to draw my pistol if I were already in a scuffel with an attacker and how to "retain" your pistol, it was taught by an instructor who teaches pistol retention and other tactics to personal body guards and police forces. I'm wondering if you know something similar but with a child in hand?
Pretty much, what would you do if you were carrying your child and somebody tried to take your firearm? I've been pondering how I would react ...
What a great way to practice. Gonna get hubby to do this with me.

I might also add that it can also use the mic on your iPhone to act as a shot indicator. So it will actually time how fast after the first beep if took for you to take a shot. It's really fun if your with friends because you can see who the fastest shot is...Then you can do speed/accuracy tests.
DRMS4LYFE 2 years ago
If you have an iPhone theres actually an app that's called shot-timer you can download. You can set it so the beep is random, or so that it beeps at a set time everytime. You can also set a par time where it basically beeps again after a specified time (user designated) to time other drills such as speed reloads. So the first beep would be pulling out the gun and dry firing it, and then before the next beep you would perform a speed reload. I have my time to 1 1/2 seconds from beep to beep.
DRMS4LYFE 2 years ago
That is a neat way to practice, but I would have an irresistible urge to draw my gun every time the microwave beeped.

Good times.

I'm looking for good CC holster. I'm looking at iwb or high ride owb. It looks like owb would be more comfortable. Was looking at tt gunleather or Rusty Sherrick high ride. What would u suggest?

nice way to practice nice lil family u have there

It's great the whole family gets to have fun doing this together.
My wife is remarkably tolerant of all my firearms considering she could care less about them personally. However drawing practice does freak her out so I'm relegated to doing it by myself in the basement (woah, that sounded really bad!).

You guys seem like a nice family.
MrRotoFire 2 years ago

I can tell that your husband's Marine training prepared him for you! :-)

It can be corrected, but like everything else, it takes time to train it out of you!

how do you conceal the 45? You'd have to wear some big coats.

1. Weeks down the road, you wonder why the microwave breaks...
2. I can't believe your kid is such a **** blocker...

You need to practice drawing from a completely concealed position; that is where the problems will show up.

justmy10cents 2 years ago

Nice video kids!
I don't think I would care for all clicking - clacking of the Serpa holster and seems to ridged, seems like it would pinch & poke while wearing it. I'm old school, a nice leather holster might be better.
BTW: Contact Hallmark, the embrace scene can be their next ST. Valentine's Day card "Tell her you love her, by drilling together" :-)
ristin59 2 years ago 2
You both draw weird, only an opinion, you move your shoulders and body too much... excess movement, have either of you tried shooting IPSC or IDPA? How's the SERPA holster for 1911's though? I had one for baby eagle and my finger always ended up directly on the trigger, which i didn't like because of a chance of accidental discharge... I prefer my finger right up against the frame when i draw.
tigur4 2 years ago
Hubby started shooting IDPA at the end last year, only got to shoot three matches.
1st match was the IDPA Classifier, he shot Sharp Shooter, 6th place overall, 1st place CDP, most accurate CDP
2nd match 5th place overall, 1st place CDP, most accurate CDP
3rd match he had a bad day...I don't remember what he shot but this year he'll probably do better as he's been practicing more.
limalife 2 years ago 2
Good to know, although IDPA is more "realistic" than IPSC, in my opinion, i'd suggest trying to shoot IPSC Production as it's more "popular" than IDPA, at least up here in Canada it is. I'd also suggest, if you havn't already, picking up videos from Matt Burkett. I really learned how to draw quickly watching his videos.
tigur4 2 years ago
A couple years ago, I also was taught how to draw my pistol if I were already in a scuffel with an attacker and how to "retain" your pistol, it was taught by an instructor who teaches pistol retention and other tactics to personal body guards and police forces. I'm wondering if you know something similar but with a child in hand?
Pretty much, what would you do if you were carrying your child and somebody tried to take your firearm? I've been pondering how I would react ...
