Harriet Beecher Stowe was a Abolitionist who wanted an end to slavery. She helped black people.
Her book raised the awareness of the evil of slavery and helped shaped Americans opinion against slavery before the Civil War. It changed the minds of many people who were complacent to be against slavery. Her book forced people to think about slavery, and it challenged the so-called Christians of that day as to how they could call themselves so and still be for slavery.
There is a lie in this video. I've read the book and Uncle did was not beaten to death for refusing to beat other slaves. He was hated for being a Christian. He was beaten to death for refusing to turn in slaves who were hiding. He helped them escape. He could have turned them in, but he didn't and he kept faith in Jesus Christ to his dying breath. Two black overseers who were forced to beat Uncle Tom, turned to Christianity because of his compassion even in being beaten to death.
To those black people so concerned about calling people "Uncle Tom" or "Aunt Jemima", they must know that to take part in life in America in anyform is a kind of "sellout." Buying things here, working here, unless you are tearing it down by being a terrorist or a criminal makes you a so called "Uncle Tom" as well.
So if said black people wish not to called "Toms" themselves they ought not contribute to America in any way. Said persons should leave this country and go back to Africa.
