A "sniper rifle" can be most long barreled rifles so your "slow rate of fire" can be tossed out. A double barrel is a no go. Too much spread (unless shooting slugs) and slow to reload. Machine gun is the second worst choice, waste too much ammo, and the worst choice is a revolver. Slow reload time. Go with a .22. Seriously

a wooden bat is better an aluminum bat is hollow on the inside and will dent if it hits something like a head making it useless after a couple swings a wooden bat is full, dense, and not hollow so it wont dent or collapse in, it also wont break unless you hit it on the skinnier part of the bat but that would be hard to do because its really close to the hands

well a shotgun is not expensive to shoot unless u have like a 4 10 10, 28 or 18 gauge is different but a 20 or 12 gauge isfromment that expensive and its not like theres any people saying u have to buy ammo or something so u just take it and im not even going to say anything about the flamethrower other than a bad idea and but a good gun is a 5 7 28 its a devastaing cartridge thats 5000 fps and yes 5000 and as much recoil as a 22 so thats a good peniteration gun 2
Flamethrower is probably a bad idea, they are more dangerous to use than to the zombies. Double barrel shotgun is also bad just cuz you don't want to get close and it only has two barrels, but a regular shotgun might be useful as a hunting tool for food, better off with a semi-auto or auto rifle. They can be used with pretty good distance. Also a semi-auto pistol cuz all you need to do is destroy the brain and 9mm is more than enough for that so you don't need a revolver.

i'll take a bushmaster AR-15 in .308, scoped 6-24x50 and night vision a .45ACP and a 12 gauge semi-auto with 3" dead coyote shot. (about 55 pellets per sheel the size of a .22 bullet)
@ohnoezmininuke If you're going for the neck, not necessarily. Neck bones are pretty much rings that wrap around the spinal cord. If you could get in between 2 of those bones, you can slice through the spinal cord like butter and instantly disable one.

A selection of weapons is not enough because there is a limit to how much ammo you can carry and even if you barricade yourself in a gun store with a lot of ammo you are going to need water you are sure is clean and food at some point.

no no and no. a 10/22 rifle, glock 17, machete, some pump or semi-auto 12 gauge shotgun with high ammo capacity is all you need as far as weapons go. flamethrower will get you killed machine gun waste a lot of ammo and is loud and would attract more zombies and revolvers have a very limited ammo capacity. as far as zombie apocalypse goes you need to think smart and light(in case you have to move quickly) not big and damaging

Everybody and their mother is gonna be flocking to sporting goods and gun stores in the hopes of getting guns and ammo. And with gun stores, they're generally pretty damn hard to break into and there are presumably a bunch of guys inside...with guns...and the ability to use them effectively.. Scavenging ammo would be damn difficult too.
I bloody hate when people says revolvers are "good" against zombies. They're slow, and they hold only 6 rounds. 6 shots difficult to load in an emergency. And not all revolvers are "magnum", most of these guns will only hit them but not even fend them off.

You clearly know jack shit about guns. I'll stick with my LWRC AR15, Benelli M4, and Kimber Warrior. AR15's already have unnecessarily long range for a zombie apocalypse (~400-600m) and are still usable in CQC, a semi-automatic combat shotgun will absolutely SHIT on a double barrel when it comes to firepower, and a 1911's .45ACP has more than adequate stopping power, great accuracy, and is magazine fed. An actual machine gun would just waste ammo.

Revolvers are a waste of time. I like .22 - enough power to enter the skull but often not enough to exit - meaning the zombies brain pretty much becomes scrambled eggs. Haven't read all the comments, but im not sure if ive seen any mention of a crossbow - i mean no one can deny the effectiveness of a weapon that you could potentially recover the ammo. As far as hand to hand weapons, give me a nice heavy claw hammer any day - simple, effective, and useful for more than just offing zombies.
A flamethrower would be a bad Idea because you would be wasting fuel and they wouldn't light well after the clothes fire burnt out. Zombies don't feel pain and humans aren't really flammable so all it would do is make a flaming zombie opposed to a normal one. Even the fumes from them and smoke could spread the virus into your lungs unless the fire kills it. Bad Idea to have a flamethrower unless the zombies are made of wood or tnt. :)

Machine guns require too much ammo to destroy to body or get an accurate headshot.
Handguns can only really be used at close range, are difficult to get head-shots with, and are incapable of destroying the zombie's body.

Sometimes there is no ammo. So I want some makeshift gizmo which can fire big enough nails. Instead of powder it must work on gasoline. Or, if its not possible, on water solution of ammonia nitrate. Break action shotguns...No. Too slow to reload. Pack a punch, but you'll be zombie food before you can reload.

@mwolf805 Revolvers aren't slow if you practice. I have a Colt Python which I can reload in under 3 seconds normally and under 7 seconds using only one hand. (My times are with HKS speedloaders, but the speedloaders are pretty common and can be reloaded in about 2-3 seconds if you know what you're doing.)

no no and no. a 10/22 rifle, glock 17, machete, some pump or semi-auto 12 gauge shotgun with high ammo capacity is all you need as far as weapons go. flamethrower will get you killed machine gun waste a lot of ammo and is loud and would attract more zombies and revolvers have a very limited ammo capacity. as far as zombie apocalypse goes you need to think smart and light(in case you have to move quickly) not big and damaging

Everybody and their mother is gonna be flocking to sporting goods and gun stores in the hopes of getting guns and ammo. And with gun stores, they're generally pretty damn hard to break into and there are presumably a bunch of guys inside...with guns...and the ability to use them effectively.. Scavenging ammo would be damn difficult too.

I bloody hate when people says revolvers are "good" against zombies. They're slow, and they hold only 6 rounds. 6 shots difficult to load in an emergency. And not all revolvers are "magnum", most of these guns will only hit them but not even fend them off.

You clearly know jack shit about guns. I'll stick with my LWRC AR15, Benelli M4, and Kimber Warrior. AR15's already have unnecessarily long range for a zombie apocalypse (~400-600m) and are still usable in CQC, a semi-automatic combat shotgun will absolutely SHIT on a double barrel when it comes to firepower, and a 1911's .45ACP has more than adequate stopping power, great accuracy, and is magazine fed. An actual machine gun would just waste ammo.

i would use a submachine gun with a silencer or an assault rifle with a silencer bith with select fire obviously and if possible a flashlight foregrip or just a flashlight and if possible a scope and a silenced pistol with a extended magazines and if possible a holographic or red dot sight

sniper rifles: low ammo, easy to be snuck up on, attracts attention loud, you want to avoid zombies
doube barrel: only 2 shots you dont try to kill zombies you want to avoid them use weapons only if needed
Machine guns: heavy, long reload, if being chased you need to drop it and ammo is heavy too
reolvers: not the best but alright, easy to find ammo true protable
id use a single shot rifle with a bayonette

Revolvers are a waste of time. I like .22 - enough power to enter the skull but often not enough to exit - meaning the zombies brain pretty much becomes scrambled eggs. Haven't read all the comments, but im not sure if ive seen any mention of a crossbow - i mean no one can deny the effectiveness of a weapon that you could potentially recover the ammo. As far as hand to hand weapons, give me a nice heavy claw hammer any day - simple, effective, and useful for more than just offing zombies.

A flamethrower would be a bad Idea because you would be wasting fuel and they wouldn't light well after the clothes fire burnt out. Zombies don't feel pain and humans aren't really flammable so all it would do is make a flaming zombie opposed to a normal one. Even the fumes from them and smoke could spread the virus into your lungs unless the fire kills it. Bad Idea to have a flamethrower unless the zombies are made of wood or tnt. :)

What's worse than a horde of zombies charging toward you? A horde of FLAMING zombies charging towards you. Zombies feel no pain, rendering flamethrowers useless, short of the point at which they destroy so much of the zombie's body that it is rendered immobile.
Machine guns require too much ammo to destroy to body or get an accurate headshot.
Handguns can only really be used at close range, are difficult to get head-shots with, and are incapable of destroying the zombie's body.

i wouldnt recommend a revolver, yes they have great power,but a low magazine size means your constantly reloading, and if you you dont have a speed loader your pretty much screwed. id get a 45. pistol, preferably a colt 1911 or a kimber. they have clips, so reloading is quick and easy

@PuritaniaTraum actually my grad father has one for skeet shooting and all im saying is that you only has two shells and the choke is narrow so the pelet spread isnt wide enoughplus the penetration is average compared to a .223cal (5.56x45mm)and when i say something is because I know about it, I never intend to make an ass out of myself. @T1ERGAMERS yes but haveing that lvl of penetration is all you need .223 caliber is what the military uses yes the have a narrow choke but back up 20 30 yards give the shot time to spread out and you are taking out multiple zombies with out haveing to do much aiming there are bigger calibers but the avialibilty of 12 guage bullets is a huge plus and you wont use nearly as much ammo as you would with an assualt rifle or a machine gun...any one couyld pick the shot gun up and take out anything

I want firearm weapon that fires any kind of ammo. Totally universal one.
Sometimes there is no ammo. So I want some makeshift gizmo which can fire big enough nails. Instead of powder it must work on gasoline. Or, if its not possible, on water solution of ammonia nitrate. The latter is widespread fertilizer, with right catalyst its water solution behaves like liquid powder.
Last, I'd take Glock pistol with silencer, thanks.

Machine gun ammo? Please..... do some research. 5.56 and 7.62 nato and 7.62x39 and 5.45x39 are dirt cheap and very easy to come by. Especially in bulk. You can get an AK with 1260 rounds for about $700.
Break action shotguns...No. Too slow to reload. Pack a punch, but you'll be zombie food before you can reload.
Stop using video games to get your information about firearms...

@mwolf805 Revolvers aren't slow if you practice. I have a Colt Python which I can reload in under 3 seconds normally and under 7 seconds using only one hand. (My times are with HKS speedloaders, but the speedloaders are pretty common and can be reloaded in about 2-3 seconds if you know what you're doing.)
