I just moved my sofa out of the living room, now squat for tv & computer, which helps a lot. Looking to buy a couple Japanese low stools too. I plan to make or buy a squat toilet for more aid. We westerners don't use our bodies correctly, even taking a dump over many years causes disease because sitting on a toilet is not ergonomic, the body is not designed for that but squatting. Drink smoothies: alkaline fruits & veggies will cause health & loss of weight which helps; walks.
I had sciatica that was due to a back injury. It got so bad where my toes would actually be numb almost every morning until the muscles loosened up. I don't suffer from it now, I was able to get past it through yoga and ALOT of stretching. I found strengthening my core and getting my hamstrings to be more limber solved a lot of the issues.
Where would I find a doctor or therapy that can assist me with this type of help. I have been suffering from sciatica for a few months now and no one seems to have anything helpful other then injections into my spine, which I am not interested in. I live in Maryland, and would really like to try these stretches under the watchful eye of a doctor (at least at first).
I tried everything to cure my sciatica, the only thing that worked was a microdysectomy. I was cured for 3 1/2 yrs, 100%. after the surgery which i got when i was 17 i lived a normal life and even competed in power lifting. however just recently it has returned and no stretch is help, in factmost stretches make it worse... I feel all of your pain, It sucks feeling handicapped. very informative video though
Having lived with sciatica for most of my life, I never knew that the pain on the side of my calfs was to do with the nerve too. Mine is genetic as my mum and sister suffer from it too. Regular excercise does help as the muscles seem to hold the nerve better when toned. Thanks for the video, very informative.
It was ages before my sciatica was diagnosed. they discovered my left leg was shorter and was blaming that for the pain instead. So watch out for wrong diagnoses. .
This was an informative video, explained in terms that anyone could understand. Especially appreciated the illustrations and explanations using the model. Thank you!
i had abelson treat me while i was living in calgary, he lives down the street from my old house, he helped my shoulder in one session and took a good look at my legs, he knows whats goin on
you don't even know how bad my sciatica was when i got it and still do..i couldn't even stand up and i had to walk to school limping like an old man....i had to wait a couple of minutes after sitting to finally stand up...it took 5 months for me to walk straight with the help of a priscription medicine..but my butt all the way down to my toes are still aching and it sucks cus i like to work out and i can't anymore....
you did not have more pain sitting? I had more pain sitting. Did you have to go to therapy? I have been going. I still need to get movement back in my foot :(
yah i did have more pain sitting, it was less painful standing up then sitting down..and i was tubborn enuf not to go to therapy so mine lasted a year....lying down always relieves the pain...oyah when u sleep place a pillow or two underneath ur knees helps relax ur lower back..
I can not feel my left 2 toes on my left foot and my sciatic pain is mostly in the middle of the night. It is almost bearable during the day. massage makes it worse I am going to get my husband to try these stretches with me thanks for answering alot of question that my doctors have just given me vicodin for.
I had nothing to loose trying acupuncture, so I did it against medical advice. After one secession the instant I put my foot on the floor to get dressed I could feel my foot, it was an 80% improvement in less that 1 hour.
On my way to and from the therapist's offices I noticed several acupuncture offices, so I went back to my physician and asked him about acupuncture, it was not recommended nor would my insurance pay for it.
My sciatica was so bad that I was limping. The pain emitted from the center of my buttock to the bottom of my foot, basically one leg was numb when it was not radiating pain. I had traction twice a week for 5 weeks including the exercises they made me do in therapy and oral medication with only about a 10% improvement.
is this condition serious, i have been floating around a few places on the net. the l5 diagram makes alot of sense to me. unfortunately the toe beside the big toe on left foot has took a small blister will it heal? that toe is numb it feels weird. also at times theres the tingling, and slight numbness over left sided ankle up. is this bad?
Just started spinel decompression, only on my 4 visit and feeling so much better i feelt the nurve in my leg, havent felt nothing in 2years i started crying so far so good
I have sciatica, from my lower lumbar i get shooting pain from my back down to my leg, it feels like someone is poking me with a hot iron rod, on the out side of my leg i cant feel a thing just numbness, on my calf theres no feeling, will this help me??
Grant recognized the anatomical positioning differences of the sciatic nerve in relation to the piriformis muscle within a population of cadavers. Very nice to have seen this pointed out within your video. Thank you very much for all of the useful information.
when the hamstring stretch was shown, the therapist said to point toes towards the body to help with hamstring stretch, but i was told to have the client preform a straight leg raise and check for the L5 S1 nerve compression, if positive they need to floss otherwise the hammys will never losen up and pain will persist.
Every case will vary. If there are indications of nerve compression nerve flossing my help. On the other hand the restriction may need to be broken up with ART or another technique.
Well Done. Not only the sciatic nerve spliting the piriformis( one anatomical variation) but as in most, it passes between the piriformis and inferior gemelli. when the gemellis get "MAD" it can cause sciatic manefestations as well. Very well done i must say. Dr of what if i may ask. I love your theory.

This is a literal pain in the ass. Took me 30 min to get out of bed this mourning. Now I understand what Kafka meant when he wrote the Metamorphoses.

Any ideas on a comfortable chair to help relieve this sciatica? I just purchased a saddle chair and that didn't help at all!
