I had heard her versions, but could never ascribe them to her. From Etta James after seeing Cadillac Records again, I found the tides of YouTube wash Eva Cassidy onto my shore and the warmth and passion of her voice vanished the November chill. For nearly 3 hours I had to have more. A recording on fllawed gift cassette nearly a decade ago failed, and I always had Eva in the back of my mind. What a tremendous talent and a tragic story. Our paths came so very close to convergence...

I appreciate the effort involved. It's just that videos of this type don't appeal to me. Actually, I like Eva best when it's just Eva and her guitar. Eva was the complete musician. All of the other musicians in the video are great too, but Eva didn't need them.

I lived in the DC area when Eva was performing and saw her a few times, and have been a HUGE fan for nearly 2 decades, and generally, I prefer my "Eva" straight up... Great video but yes, a little creepy with the fake band. It's a great tribute by someone who's obviously moved by her music! It's my understanding that Eva did her own backing vocals in the studio. That's why they're always so tight! No Eva doesn't sound exactly like Aretha, but she was certainly inspired. All of her covers have the unique Eva twist. I might point out that many black singers do covers of "white" songs. They don't exactly sound white, but that doesn't make them invalid.

The other guys are pro players and include the actual producer of the track, Steve Lima. We wanted 2 bring back a live feel to accompany Eva's footage & were really proud to be a part of it! Yesterday my sister and I received a GOLD DISC for contributing to record sales of more than 100,000 in the UK alone! Mega chuffed!! :-) So just to let you know, we weren't a fake band really!

Whoever put this video together is a true genius to make it appear so real and actual. Though I've watched this video many times, it still is fun and cool to watch. You do realize, don't you, that this video is a phony? Someone took footage of Eva and edited in clips to make it look as if those other musicians and singers, whom Eva never met in her life, were performing with her at Blues Alley. To me this is creepy, maybe more than creepy, and I'm sure it is deeply offensive to the guys who actually did perform with Eva for years, who were really there at Blues Alley, and have been cut out of the video.
yeah have to agree with livelaughandlovelong, respected the melody and music and still owns the song no matter what she sings. There's not a song that she chooses that doesn't give me a goose bumps or inspiration! Eva was one of the greats and it seems that with all of the greats who aren't with us, at least they've left a legacy. Thank you!

@ja47mc A friend turned me onto her years ago, and I brought home the songbird CD. I then cancelled sort of important plans for the day and went back to the record store to purchase everything else they had of Eva's, and I listened to it all non-stop for weeks and weeks. She was a gift from God to me at the time. NO ONE ever had that effect on me before or since.
@taskoll I agree totally, and I have done the same. I cannot get enough. I think my kids think I'm a bit nuts, and maybe they're right, but I have never been affected so profoundly by a singer and their music. She is truly as you say, a gift from God. I hope your life is well.

I don't know that Eva would have gone for such an MTV-type presentation, but I've got to hand it to blixstreet. This is one hell of an editing job with "Blues Alley " footage interspersed with musicians and back up singers who never performed with Eva. That said, I really liked the video, especially the footage of Eva clowning around for the camera.
Aretha owns this song but I must say Eva holds her own here. I just discovered Ms Cassidy and I'm cruising through her performances here on youtube. Happy to have made this discovery.

I dont like the way she sings THIS song.. No, this is NOT the proper VIBES to sing Aretha. And her vocal technique sucks too. When I hear her I dont feel the way I feel listening Aretha. It's not the same AT ALL.
The girl have a good voice but cant FEEL Aretha's spirit when she sings it. If you cant feel the SOUL MUSIC you better dont sing it at all. I know what I'm sayin.

@Zakir41977 I agree, but this is in fact the only song that I am not absolutely in love with. It's odd that she couldn't really pull it off, since she has sooooooo much soul. I actually think she was trying too hard, in a way. But she is my beloved Eva, and she gets into my blood every time I hear her. It's a zen moment for me.

@Zakir41977 What you're saying about spirit might be true for you. But the girl can't have "a good voice" and have bad vocal technique! The one defies the other. An d if you really wanna talk vocal technique I suggest listening to aretha in 2010... that's poor technique. But that doesn't mean that she doesn't convey something.

Man, our conversation’s only getting more boring with each comment. Enough. U can love the way she sings it or anything else that don’t matter 2 me. I know how to sing this kind of music. I sang so many songs of so many performers(& Soul performers most of all) in my life already & so many times that I have a right 2 know HOW 2 SING IT BEST & when I say someone(even talented with a good voice) cant sing some song THE WAY IT TAKES =that means I KNOW WHAT IM SAYIN. @Zakir41977 i am a DIE HARD Aretha fan. Aretha is the queen, every song she sing is hers alone, but Ms. Cassidy deserves her props on this one honey...it has the sass & everything...not the same, not better, but damn close. Closer than anyone else can ever get.

@ja47mc A friend turned me onto her years ago, and I brought home the songbird CD. I then cancelled sort of important plans for the day and went back to the record store to purchase everything else they had of Eva's, and I listened to it all non-stop for weeks and weeks. She was a gift from God to me at the time. NO ONE ever had that effect on me before or since.

@taskoll I agree totally, and I have done the same. I cannot get enough. I think my kids think I'm a bit nuts, and maybe they're right, but I have never been affected so profoundly by a singer and their music. She is truly as you say, a gift from God. I hope your life is well.

I don't know that Eva would have gone for such an MTV-type presentation, but I've got to hand it to blixstreet. This is one hell of an editing job with "Blues Alley " footage interspersed with musicians and back up singers who never performed with Eva. That said, I really liked the video, especially the footage of Eva clowning around for the camera.
