  • Great video! Tried the same myself on Thursday, the night before it closed. I've been kicking myself ever since that I didn't have a better camera -- mine wasn't high-rez, and it jiggled a little as I was driving. Now the opportunity is gone forever. The "south mile" is being demolished starting this weekend, and perhaps the loveliest freeway in the world is only a memory.

  • @eriks74342 Thanks. Yeah I am definitely glad I did it. I wish I had grabbed footage before the modifications that were already made but I was still quite happy how this came out. It was filmed using a Canon 7D in my car out the windshield, and 2 GoPro cameras mounted on the outside.I really wanted to capture this view. I have the southbound as well but the footage just isn't as interesting.

  • @nteeuwen I'll have to get a Canon 7D myself, then! I was using a vintage-2008 Flip camera, and while I was impressed with the video at the time, it obviously doesn't hold a candle today. If only I'd realized before it was too late! The final sunset on the Viaduct was dramatic, as it always was, with flashing signs the whole way warning of the closure. Also caught the final nighttime traffic jam coming home. One question -- Did you do anything special to stabilze the camera on the dashboard?

  • Gonna miss this drive. Love the video.

    Wont miss the crazy drivers!

  • @hilopadx That's exactly why I did it. Once the structure is gone you will no longer be able to see Seattle from its viewpoint.

  • That's very cool nicely done.

  • @willztube Thanks.
