Hey no mention of the Navigons pop up saying,"GPS recetion is currently not sufficient". Yeah, It has yet to be sufficient even once. I tried itunes who takes your complaint and then says, we heard ya, call Navigon. ..... in Germany.... and explain to them. I have a 90$ version of mapquest essentially. Lame. Don't believe the hype, none of these apps are ready for market. They are suckering those who jump in first.... like usual. I got hosed.
No, it uses GPS data traffic which doesn't affect your data plan or anything.. You can practically remove your SIM card and it will still work (haven't tried it myself though)..
Thanks for the video, Jason. Very helpful. Quick query that no one seems to have mentioned - Does this turn-by-turn navigation only work with the 3GS?
I waited for the Tom Tom app to come out before making a decision. After reading the reviews, and watching several YouTube videos on all three apps, I went with the Navigon - the views it uses on the highway sold me.
I've only had it for a few days, and while it's not quite as easy to use as my Garmin 360 used to be (it got stolen), it's a great app.
When they provide text to speech, it will be awesome...
Indeed! I didn't know that TomTom was to come out with an iPhone App but I don't regret buying Navigon for one sec.. The only downside with Navigon is that I need to remove a lot of apps or my music to be able to update Navigon when they drop an update (it uses a lot of memory during installation) and it takes time to remove and then resync 1000+ songs =P
Thanks.. great vid.. good to see a decently filmed road test of each app!
Now to decide which one is best :S

Actually you can if you get the iGPS360 module from Orange gadgets. You need a jailbroken iPod to use it, though.

Doenst this cost a hell of a money? Or is it by satellite like a normal gps? And not over 3g/wifi?

woods72 2 years ago
Yeah, but thats the just the app.. doesnt it cost any money to use it? Like data traffic or something/?
haugisen 2 years ago
It does not cost any money to use the GPS function. Oh BTW i think there is no traffic info.... Check it on iTunes

i think your phone will immedietly lock itself
so you can only make emergency calls
you can turn on airplane mode and it *should* work
