why do people make it a point to find anything negative to say? he is a freshman at Berklee which means he is young. Perhaps he is influenced by other people who use the same chop or lick. ok, its paradiddles around the set....AND? the KID has skills, and he is smart enough to try and pursue being a musician by going to school. If you feel you are better than him, give him constructive criticism, don't talk shit about him...sadly people who talk shit are prolly garbage on the kit.

Excellent syncopation, nice feel, but what many people don't realize is that this isn't gospel music. Gospelchops is an oxymoron in and of itself. Want to listen to real gospel music? Check out the Staples singers, want real R+B drumming check out Al Jackson Jr and Bernard Purdie. All of these videos are killer and I enjoy them, but it ain't gospel music. It's fusion.

This fill is a combination between double notes between your hands and feet. He overlaps the diddles towards the end of the fills. I do believe he also likes to accent the notes with his hands as well. The best advice I could give anyone to try and achieve this sound is to use grids with ostinatos. So no matter what you want at a certain point of the song you're playing to, you can just whip it out and wow the crowd.

He also changes the drums and stickings in every interpretation of the chop which is why I'm pretty sure he's just teaching you something to mess around with and shed on like he has.

From what I understand of this video, he's not really going for a chop but more an idea that you just mess around with. He will use a lot of doubles around the drums and feet but he plays doubles with his right hand and bass drum simultaneously a lot of the time which is something you see Spanky do a good bit. He also fits in a lot of odd groupings such as 5's at 1:40. He obviously a decent amount of time playing with the possibilities with the idea. Hope this helps clear up some confusion.
