I love his books, I found his work by chance, I picked up a long way down at a thrift shop cuz it looked good and after that I had to read the rest of his stuff.

Although most people find his work funny it makes me very sad because I think he's talking from the heart about how lost we feel - we're (as we said at the time) the "in-betweenies" - a very strange generation which can't relate to the generations before or after it.

The jumping into the future was pretty inventive (kind of vonnegut-esq), but this one just didn't seem to have the same punching wit of high fidelity and a long way down. that is, afterall, why i love Nick Hornby.
I agree. Its not that it is a bad book (the writing style is hilarious and the characters really live), but its not as smart or as deep as his previous works. High Fidelity, About a boy, How to be good...they all have so much wisdom in them. Not so much here.

How To Be Good is my favourite. Fever Pitch and Long Way Down come next. But everything is he writes is very good.
