You are living my dream. Iron ore mining and making videos about it! Personally, I want to get into the explosives area of this mining, but this is pretty damn good too! Thanks for the upload!
Yeah, there are a number of mines closing down. It's not really hurting the Iron Ore sector, but things like Nickel, Zinc, and a few others are being affected a lot more than us.
Iron Ore has slowed down a bit, for example, some companies have put planned expansions on hold. But I haven't heard of any mines closing so far.
Some other mines though are being put into care and maintenance (basically closed/on hold), until the prices for the respective metals/materials starts coming back up.
@manniefold you should thank the chinese. if it wasn't because of the strong resource demand from china. australia will be still struggling like the US.
the recession has killed us in engineering design / projects..... bring back the boom. no new projects means no work for us. when time are good they are great, when they are bad.....
I suppose this operation is similar everywhere. I've applied for a job up in Groote Eylandt (They mine manganese up there), not operating plant though (except front-end loader) I'll be working as a port operator maintainer.
actually, it's listed on caterpillars website that for this particular truck, a 785C, the engine is a 12 cylinder Cat® 3512B EUI twin turbocharged and aftercooled diesel engine.
The Cat 789's have a V16 engine, while the largest trucks that Cat make, the 797's, are 24 cylinder monsters.
If you have a look at caterpillar's website, and look under mining applications (I think), you can see pictures of the trucks, and also of the engines that power them.
The engines in these particular trucks are V12 Caterpillar's, and in regards to licences, it depends where you want to work. In Queensland, some mine sites only require you to have a normal car licence, but in WA, they want you to have at LEAST a Medium Rigid licence, but it's better to have a Heavy Rigid truck licence. I should point out though that driving these trucks is simple, as they have power steering, and are fully automatic. It's just really the size you have to get use to.
Yeah i live in Darwin NT and i need a new challenge. being cramped up in one place all the time in very anoying. will be looking for another job in the next few months
Would doing a Dump Truck course at MTS (mine training services) in WA be of any advantage to snagging a job?? I see alot of the Dump Truck jobs on the internet ask for experienced operators, How are you supposed to get exp?? Or just hope for the best and pray they see the stuff in you that they are looking for??
Not exactly sure, but I THINK it's something like 60,000 litres, give or take. Can normally empty a tank within 10 to 15 minutes, maybe even a bit quicker with all sprays open.
They are a bunch pill poppers in the pill borough.
