  • Great series of videos! My eyes widened when I saw your incorporation of the picoKeyer. I have one of those keyers, sitting unused... Won't be unused for much longer!

  • You said in another video that this keeps a carier on even when the key is not pressed did you fix this problem? I just ordered the kit soo? oh yeh did you ever test the signal distance?

  • No. It is designed that way. The carrier shifts in frequency. That is how a small simple rig like this works. No, I have never had it on the air. But... let's try it out!

  • Sorry I am new to HAM dont even have a rig this will be my first LOL, I thought you meant it stays key'd up even when your not doing morse, think i am confused :P. Anyway I bought the crystal pack and two pixi's,the plan is for me and a buddie to use these as transmitters and use our scanners as recivers.Soo we will see what happens, dont even know morse yet lmao!

  • As a first rig--I do not recommend this one. As a first construction project, yes. You will need another ham who can help you with your first QSO--by getting ready on that frequency. Subscribe to QRP-L. This is a good starting point. Good luck, OM!

  • By the way, what is your callsign? You have a good plan, sounds like. Even practicing in the same room is a fine way to get started. Move to a different block, then a different town--mostly get on the air and try. My first QSO was in 1993 or something. My mother had to take the key and finish it out because I freaked out and didn't know what to say. It was about 4WPM and with a straight key--but it was a QSO and I got a QSL card from the guy. Get on the air! I command you!

  • KC7FYS, I love your first QSO story! LOL! My first QSO was in 1974, and I recall my panic quite vividly. ARRL pamphlet "Operating an Amateur Radio Station" helped (just noticed some used ones on Amazon). Among other things, it explains what to know and what to expect with a typical QSO. I recommedation just LISTENING to a few QSOs, then follow their example. Good luck! 73, KA1DNO

  • Build me one PLEASE!!!!

  • Well, this is a cheep kit. Give it a try.

  • Im waiting for chapter 5

  • I came up on the air with this little xcvr--but NG. I think I'll have to pre-arrange a QSO just to see if the damn thing works!

  • Chapter Five is up.
