  • when will people wake up, mother earth has all the energy(geothermal) that we all need Big oil, fat rich oldschool men dont want it. Pepole need to go alternative energy solar, wind, geothermal & become independant and FREE

  • The more I learn about Geothermal Energy the more I want to know about it.

  • I'm in Maine. A friend from Mass. was trying to bring geothermal heating up here, to no avail. There's money in sticking with the status quo, even at the local level.

  • i got enough cold day, but there is still worth it.

  • i got enough cold day...but there is till worth it.

  • Between Geothermal, Solar, Wind, Tidal they can will not only meet our current demands but produce enough energy for the whole world to run. Solar satellites set up throughout the desert of the world. Geothermal set up wherever water is heated under the earth. Wind power in high wind areas and tidal generators set up at strong currents throughout the world. The 3rd world will be able to come up with this amount of energy. Old money stays with old people i hope our generation fixes this shit up.

  • @Razz000 I wish more people in our generation subscribed with your conceptions. People like you generate optimistic predictions for me. Much respect!

  • @Loltochapel thanks for your comment. how old are you?

i think it's about time we start doing something if you got any ideas about a way to spread the word or anything send me a message. Peace to you.

  • Do Icelandic always eat meat ? Are the skies in Iceland always grey ?

  • Are Icelandic depressed almost all year round ? Are they happy ?

  • Have you ever seen an Icelandic getting angry ? Has it ever happened in the last century ?

  • It depends on what you mean by "beauty." If you're looking for the architecture of Prague or the romance of Paris, it ain't there (except some areas of Reykjavik). "Stunning" and "unearthly " are certainly words that apply. If you don't think "stunning", "unearthly", or "desolate" and "bizarre" qualify as "beauty", don't go.

  • Excuse me for being a bit rude in applying so directly to you but I must get answers to my doubts. Many people claim tht Iceland is a stunning destination with unearthly landscapes not to be encountered anywhere in the world. However, when I look at photos taken of Icenadic views, I do not get the impression there is anything to boast of . Well, there is some undeniable beauty but I think there are other countries in the far east or in Europe which far exceed Iceland by beauty .

  • @eliaviel1 Beauty is in the eye of the beholder!!!!

  • The good news it's becoming easier to make money in renewable energy in the US because Americans want it. The bad news is the entrenched special interests that you mention and the political power they are wielding to maintain the status quo. Change is hard for old people. An entire generation (mine) is going to have to die before we understand what the rest of the world already gets.

  • We have the same intellegent people here, but not the economic incentive. They are makeing to much money keeping us hooked on oil. Billions of dollars for outdated dehumanizing highway systems, billions for new cars every year. Billions on outdated transportation systems in large cities.Billions to build and heat large houses, instead of smaller more sustainable living quaters, that everyone could afford. They are makeing so much running this country into the ground they would be crazy to stop.

  • so not only did they start producing clean energy that is seemingly forever renewable, they optimized the efficiency of their society economically... and the republicans tell us that removing the oil industry is bad for us, the top 2% can go fuck themselves.

  • "...and all we have to do to secure our future is go just a little bit back in time."

  • We have had (for decades) the science/technology/resources to address the adverse conditions in which we find ourselves. Check out thezeitgeistmovement & thevenusproject. READ the FAQ's, watch/listen to the vids/lectures. Join us in creating a better future for future generations as ONE family. These wonderful technologies are gonna be used by the wrong people. It will all be about money, not people. We must move from a money society to a resource based economy.

    Love - Mamma D

  • Iceland is surely showing the world how to go green! It is an inspiring video.

  • Iceland needs to fully harvest Geothermal and produce everything for free.

Fuck the cost fuck the economy the whole world is going bankrupt anyways.

  • "Man made hell" Doom all over again!

  • I read that Iceland gets over 50 % of its power from Geothermal sources. That's so awesome, i hope other countries soon follow their great example.

  • @relaxin001 Actually its over 90%.

You should also checkout Norway. They get around 90% of their electricity from hydro electric dams

  • @djguy100 Wow, i didn't know it was that high, same with the dams in Norway, with a pop. of almost 5 million people that's preety impressive.

  • We loved our vacation in Island. We'll be doing it again!

  • I invented a breakthrough energy source which violates the law of energy conservation. I have a PROOF that there are electrodynamic phenomena which violate the law of energy conservation (and also experimental evidence for such phenomena). I am looking for $300 000 for a prototype and $3M for patents. In mass production it will cost about $1200 to make a 6 kW generator, value of the energy produced yearly $5400. H. Tomasz Grzybowski

    tel. +48-512-933-540

  • @henrykay01 I invented a better patent that I am willing to see for 1/2 as much. Contact me instead.

  • Here in Brazil, there's no geothermal energy being used.

  • i'm going to be a geologist, and i hope i can be there in a future!

  • Can't wait til school is done, and I can move over there. Reykjavik should be a role model to the entire planets populated cities.

  • is the electricity cheap there ?

  • @Re9syr: Surprisingly, it's roughly the same as what I'm used to paying here in the States. Rent is a tad bit more expensive, but not by enough to shake a stick at.

  • @Peterwhitlock So to just say, "He was part of a racist group," does NOT tell the whole story. That alone shows me you're just interested in spreading lies, not evoking the whole truth. The rest of your words carry no meaning now. I'm done with you.

  • @Peterwhitlock You can't just pick parts of a story to facilitate your negative attitude. Jacque joined the KKK in order to dissolve it, much like he did other racist and bigoted groups. His goal was to see if he could change their minds about their negative beliefs. In some cases, he did. So if he can change hard core people, he should be able to enlighten people to a new way of thinking about how we manage the world.

  • Geo thermal power is known proven to cause earthquakes and need MASSIF amounts of water to prove it is far from as useful as claimed. In fact you gamble life and death to use it in some places.

  • It's only called the Venus Project because the guy who developed it lives in Venus, Florida. If he lived in Jupiter, Florida is probably would have been called the Jupiter Project. lol.

Don't get all hung up on names and hidden meaning nonsense. He didn't name the city he lives in.

It's not much of a stretch to simply name your self study project after the city you live in, especially if the city name is unique anyway. So judge the Venus Project on its merit and solutions, not its name.

  • actually he moved to venus to make the project and is a GOD HATER and anti all religions to the point he calls all children to be raised Atheist and so change religions that he took the project from and they that studied it from walt disney, buckminister fuller and manly p hall among amy others all theists and so all his work is 100% theist but he claims atheist. Spent his birthday hating religions and saying the Pope did not read scripture because he point to different places for God .

  • Peterwhitlock - Is it too much to ask that you use proper grammar and punctuation in a post? I don't understand a single thing you said, aside from the notion that your accusing Jacque Fresco of being a God hater. When's the last time God did anything positive for humanity? Um, nothing.

As for him moving to Venus, Florida just so he could name his project The Venus Project, show me proof of that, not just your words. It's easy to just say what you want...the trick is proving it.

  • @TZMSocialEvolution

He admits he was part of a racist group and that his heroes are the same people that gave so much influence to Hitler! He hates God out of ignorance extreme and tells the world his stupidites to prove his ignorance. He said just a few weeks ago that the Pope can't read! WHY? he points to all kinds of places to point to God and not the chair in the sky JF think is scripture!

He stole from scripture about a city from Jesus to peter as if it was his project and Atheist! WOW!

  • The Venus project.. the name just doesn´t sit well with me, got Freemasonry written all over it.

    Geothermal looks promising though.

  • NOT THE WAY TVP wants it!

this is a natural thing you are watching but to drill deep and blow up and hole to shove water down there from who knows where to make the steam is a whole other thing! Also we found that to even try that makes earthquakes right under it because of temperature effects on the soft rock to make it hard...lots of problems with Geo thermal power! And who said we would even need it? We won't use it much ever.

  • (understanding fail) 6:07 you don`t have to go back in time lol.

    Gj iceland ...

  • us not far behind! Let's print some more money!

  • The idea that it takes to much energy and money to create the things to power a country and equipment on oxyhydrogen and geothermal is a lie!!!!.....Because if you look back at when oil was first discoverd and produced..what did they use to get it and make it into products???.....so u can create a country who uses these resources with almost no money at all!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • " oxyhydrogen "

Is an energy carrier (like a battery) not an energy source (like the sun or tides).

  • we KNOW it makes earthquakes and needs massif amounts of water to work. turbines that used to work fine now need 2 cities to feed them to work at a much less level of power. Where it is natural you also face danger of destruction of all the equipment and lives. It works! But only if the conditions are just right and we see they are not the silly plans of Jf like 4000 MPH trains and anti gravity and so many insanities about GOD and religions to shame himself into the grave is he had morals.

  • can i live here??

  • iceland is broke

  • see> iceland money geyser

  • There should be a Global effort to get as much as much power from Geothermal Energy as possible.

  • Dude have you heard of the Venus Project thats precisely what they advocate. Check it out.

  • Yes, I have seen Zeitgiest and I think that the Zeitgiest Movement and the Venus Project should really push their Agenda in Iceland its a perfect place, they are about to get raped by the money masters.

  • The commonwealth od Dominica in the west indies has a huge geothermal potentiol. It is only 300 sq miles yet it host the 2nd largest boiling lake in the world.

  • seemingly hot for iceland , automotive carbon dioxide causing this , no wonder ice cap melting

  • This is informative video. We have more fun videos on iceland, check it out.

  • Thank you very much. I've been looking for videos on Iceland and this the best one I've seen so far! Now if I can only find some that get me excited about being a tourist...

  • Also, whales are tasty.

  • Whales are fucking delicious why do people kill pigs and cows ? Because it's food, who says we can't eat whales what's so fucking special about them!?

  • would you eat people if they tasted good?

  • How is eating people even remotely similar to eating whales? There is no proof that whales are endangered so I don't why this is such a big deal...

  • um. humans and whales are both pretty similar if you ask me. they're both mammals, social animals, capable of feeling pain and suffering. Those are at least the important points in deciding wheather or not it is okay to consume them.

  • That's applies to pigs, cows, sheep as well.. So I guess we should just stop eating them too. Go hug a fucking rainbow stupid hippie douchebag.

  • yes it does apply to pigs cows and sheep as well. And i did stop eating those things a long time ago. You see there came a time in human history where relying on the flesh of other animals became unnecassary but given it's profitability the industry has remained strong. Because it is such a wasteful industry it therefore even more profitable in a capitalist economy.

  • are you against people eating meat?

  • Does this mean that Shrimp and other animals don't feel pain? If not, why do they have innate defense mechanisms?

  • what makes you think that just because the animals i mentioned feel pain that i believe every other animal i failed to mention does not?

  • lol. ok, you're right :P.

  • Apparently, some people have... Atleast that's I what have heard on the History channel anyway...

  • Why is this and other renewable energies not that common?

  • because anything sustainable is not profitable in a capitalist society. With perfect sustainability the amount of energy available (the supply) will skyrocket and the amount of people requiring energy (the demand) will stay relatively constant. thus the price fo electricity goes down. kind of how dairy farmers in the great depression would throw out large portions of their milk away to keep the prices high.

  • Until the oil companies take over the renewable resource companies, we will not see much change, but after the oil companies stress their industry they'll gradually make a profit from this.

  • i couldn't disagree more. What's going to make a change is a consciece social revolution. the individual is going to have to drop their front and start pulling their own wieght. that's the only way.

  • No, their want be a revolution are revolt.

This does effect the average man enough to where they would want to riot. People are lazy. If their comfortable enough, they will not care enough.

  • first of all people are not lazy, select individuals possibly, but in general humans have a pretty good idea of what it is that needs to be done in order to survive. And secondly in regards to your assumption that if they are comfortable people will not care enough to do anything. look at the anti-war movement in the 60's they didn't need to be put in a life threatening situation to recognize oppression. and with the future of our global economy people aren't going to be living to comfortable.

  • Thank You for this State of the Art documentary. We lived in Iceland from 1982 through 1985. What an enlightening experience. We were at the NATO base at Keflavik. The 'God Falls in your film, sure are awesome, are they not? Do you have any film of the year around green houses also, using the energy--raditators in bldgs for the heat, it is awesome the way the Icelanders (the Vikings) not only survive, but, thrive. Thank you, again

  • how did the country change their enegy source so effectively?

  • As we just saw in their elections (kicking out the right wing crooks who wrecked their economy- sound familiar?), things happen and spread faster in such a small nation. Plus, a good idea is a good idea. If you wait too long to implement it, it's often too late i.e. GM's electric car.

  • Well... they didn't change it at all, actually. Their energy source has always been geothermal/hydroelectric. At the turn of the 20th century, Iceland was an isolated farming community and essentially a third world country. The world wars introduced them to the outside world. During WWII Iceland was occupied by the British and eventually the Americans. It was by far the biggest culture shock that this nation had ever received.

    Continued in next post.

  • During and after WWII, Iceland underwent a massive development of infrastructure. The were among the last of the western countries to establish a national electric grid. That was good news for them because it meant that they had access to developed technology from abroad which saved them the hassle of developing it themselves.

Then came the question: "How are we gonna provide power?"

  • When electricity was being introduced to America and Europe, coal and oil plants were a logical choice to produce power. They were easy to burn and readily available. Discovery of oil was instrumental in providing the world with cheap electricity.

Iceland had neither of those resources but by the time they were pondering on how to make electricity, there was an alternative form of power production which was tried and tested. Hydroelectricity.

  • So there we have it. In order to cut cost on import, Iceland decided to focus on building damns and eventually, when technology allowed for it, they started tapping into geothermal energy production as well.

So you see, the original reason behind these ego friendly power plants had nothing to do with saving the planet. It was simply more practical thing to do and they had access to better technology then America and Europe when they first developed their energy grid.

  • Excellent!

The shape of things to come.

  • Iceland rules.

  • i just fell in love with iceland.

  • Omg, I so look up to Iceland now and I'm Mexican. The whaling watching business making more money now than they ever did by killing them :)

If only more countries were as environmetally driven as the Icelanders...

  • I live in Brazil.Iceland is a very developed country.

  • what the hell is he talking about?? i dun understand, i think i'll juz follow my thinking. ):

  • Great video, very informative. Those Icelanders are smart people!

  • Trillion dollars for killing people in Iraq no problem, clean renewable and affordable energy for everyone No no way too expensive, god dam shit face bush and the shit face repukelican party, they say no to everything except killing people they should kill themselves!

  • ive been saying this to myself for abouttt 4 years now

  • um no entiedo nda

  • What is better then the power and heating in ur house, Allmoust 4 free??????

  • Iceland is a magical place..and the dream of every geologist! :)

  • Only 10% of america?? wow thats lame, it could be 100% without a doubt....lazy government bas-tards. spending billions and saying something is to expensive when it really isnt. gawd damn greed...

  • If energy is the cause of the economy, then a change is needed. Dont perpetuate the problem, it will only make it worse. Geothermal energy woo!! Theres others too, solar-hydrogen, magnetic-hydrogen, splitting water, burning hydrogen, and cooling water vapor turns it into water and the cycle restarts

  • 2:39..

    "Hey george, you here something?"

    "No, keep drilling Foo!"

    BIG BADA BOOOOOOOOM!!!!

  • im living theree hands down!

its kinda sad they dont have any big companies of their own. i would make a 4x4 company all out of geothermal energy

  • yeah geothermal plants are a good idea but just cost much and the ecomicy right now can't hang it

  • They don't mention the fact that thier Geothermal plants power production drop every year, and they have to expand all the time.

75% of their electricity comes for hydro plants, but great video. Made me warm inside... even if it's bullshit.

  • Can you give me your resources on this data... To my understanding it is only if you take more than the land is able to heat. I doubt that population of only 300.000 is to much for the land so it can't recover it lost heat over time. But i admit that i don't know much about this, any info or link about this power drop would be welcome :-)

  • You can can start with Wikipedia of course. There's many other resources to find out information about it, but I really don't want to look for them all again right now.

    You understand I hope.

  • I already wikipedia it, wikipedia is like my left arm;)

But it said that the world's second-oldest geothermal generator at Wairakei has reduced production, nothing about ours.

And it also writes "An assessment of the total potential for electricity production from the high-temperature geothermal fields in Iceland gives a value of about 1500 TWh (total) or 15 TWh per year over a 100 year period. The electricity production capacity from geothermal fields is now only 1.3 TWh per year."

  • ok buddy.

I'm not here to teach you. I'm sick of doing all the studies that takes me months to teach people while they play devil's advocate the whole time. If you think it's ok to take heat energy from undergound, then that's your misconception. You're on your own.

  • Take it easy smart ass, If you know so much about it then you could at least try explain a little about it is what you know what we don't. You can't expect people to listen to you just because you say so.

But don't, worry i really don't give a dam what you have to say any more... I'm gonna live in my own "misconception"

    peace

  • does a country needs to be on a special zone to produce geothermal energy, like volcanic lands, or it can applied in any place of the world?

  • It is better and cheaper to have it on a special zone. One of the problems is the loss of heat if the distance from the energy source is to great.

Still... Iceland is far from being the only country ideal for geothermal energy. There are more than 15 other countries that have good experience from geothermal energy and it is calculated in government surveys that The entire world resource base of geothermal energy is larger than the resource bases of coal, oil, gas and uranium combined.

  • Every country is ideal for geothermal, it's all over the us. it's 65 degrees underground, summer, winter, spring, and fall. it's an infinate resource so long as we live on this planet, so yes it would be larger than those. It's 400% efficient in the us, try it out

  • amazing video :)

i went to iceland in october!

    its an amazing country!

  • Geothermal produces very cheap electricity (cheaper than coal power) for Iceland since 1980s.

Iceland's citizens must think the rest of the world is stupid to be still burning coal to make electricity.

Yes, our governments are really stupid!!!! We need geothermal energy now!!!!

  • an example for all

  • Yeah, amazing work!

  • Iceland really is an interesting place from an environmental standpoint. I remember some time ago some scientist proposed that 30% of Iceland's coastline (about equal to the coastline of the US) be converted to natural reservoirs. People initially said he was crazy, and that it could never be done. Despite this, Iceland is now actually succeeding in doing exactly what he proposed.

  • Wow. This was an excellent video.

  • Iceland has many hydropower.

  • Fantastic camera work and an all around informative presentation.

  • I come from Iceland, and i love Iceland with all my heart! but i live in denmark couse my mom moved :( but i go visit about 5-8 times a year when i turn 18 im gonna move to Iceland again! :D .. only 3 years to go!!

  • iceland is my favourite country!

why do so many icelanders move to denmark? come to norway! icelandic people are norwegian anyway =)

    cheers from norway

  • Icelanders dont move to denmark mate :) Its just a lie.... We really dislike danish ppl for just some reason... Actually i love norway :D Cheers

  • This is great !

I love it, I recommend icelandic music to give it a national feeling.Like a group called Alftagedisbraedur !

    Best regards
