  • Don't buy the gas saving devices and Consumer reports confirmed this years ago.Tested them, they don't work and said don't waste your money on them

  • there's some more things like dont drive like your in nascar you can also add a k&n air filter . the air filter is good for a life time so you dont have to buy them all the time you only have to clean them also you can do what i did and put E3 spark plugs in I've got a 1987 Chevy truck with a 305 v8 in it and i am getting 8 miles to the gallon better with just the k&n filter and the E3 pluges with that 8miles better i get 28mpg highway an like 21city the factory says i should only get 19highway

  • @clbzippo1 Teach me!

  • I dont understand why it is stupid to change your oil every 3000 miles. I change mine every 3000 miles. obviously the people that are saying this are the stupid ones and dont give a shit about there car. Changing your oil is the best thing you can do to keep your car running forever.

  • I change my oil every 5,000 miles on my truck not 3,000 miles.

  • In the UK oil is never changed at less than 10,000 miles interval, on my Jeep it's 12,500, it's never been a problem here, or in Europe where the intervals are similar.

  • @Nox665 if youre too poor to get a oil change every 6months then you need to start riding the bus.

  • @Magienus It's not about being poor or rich, it's about not doing something unneeded.

Are you too poor to afford an oil analysis once in your life ?

  • @Nox665

    good point

but then consider the savings you get from most of the mechanical parts that last longer because of regulaur oil changes and especially after around 150, 000 where loss of compression leeches fuel economy, a regular oil change would have minimized the extent of damage.

  • @Nox665 it doesn't matter, it's good for the car

  • what's a filder?

  • @chris000089 jajajaajajaj

  • stay away from additives. NO real advantage with these. they might give you extra half a mile and save you 1 dollar of gas but they cost 10, Additives are waste of money

  • Using the recomended grade oil is a must.Says on the cap, emissions label on Fords and in the owner's manual.

  • Using the recomended grade oil is a must.Says on the cap, emissions label on Fords and in the owner's manual. The gas saving devices are a waste of money and has been proven.Consumer Reports did a test on some including the tornado, said you are wasting your money

  • @Nox665 so let me ask you this question, what sounds cheaper if you have some common sense: A new engine or the extra cost for changing oil earlier?

  • @simracr94 Ur assumption is wrong coz an oil change every 9k miles isn't gonna cost you ur engine and changing it every day wont make it last forever.

But ofc we are just 2 "keyboard experts"... so the best thing u can do is to bring ur oil to a lab and have it analyzed.

  • I personally change my oil every 3000 miles, vehicles nowadays are designed to go 7500 miles without an oil change. Don't believe it? Do ya research.

  • Well, well, well. Don't you have a little temper!?

The "detergents" in "some" oils is so minor that it doesn't even get mentioned.

As for "Why does oil get dirty?" It gets dirty because it is used to lubricate the moving parts of an engine, Inside a the cylinder, where the intake, compression, power and exhaust takes place, there is a build up of carbon from the gas and air mixture burning.

  • Most of the carbon is sent through the exhaust, but small amounts remain and stick to the walls. As the scraper ring cleans the wall on each strokethe carbon is then deposited and before it is sent through the engine once again it passes through the filter.

But tthis is for a fourstroke engine, would you like me to teach you about the inner workings of a twostoke engine?

    Don't be angry, Grover

  • Why do drivers need to know the inner workings of internal combustion engines? Isn't that the reason why they employ mechanics?

That is like saying "If you don't know how to upgrade a computer, you shouldn't be using one."

WAKE UP AND STOP HANDING ON YOUR USELESS ADVICE.

  • BryceGrover , Oil cleans engine parts? That's news to me. Here I was under the impression that oil was in your engine to lubricate all the moving parts.

I'VE BEEN LIED TO FOR THE PAST 30 YEARS!!!

Thank you for telling us the truth and handing on you wisdom Mr.Grover.

  • Toyota did a test in the 1980's on oil lifetime.

Your oil DOES get dirty, so a good oil filter is a must, BUT the standard conventional oil will actually retain viscosity for up to 6,000 miles, BUT I wouldn't recommend it. People say change your oil at 3000 or every 3 months. Personally I say, change it every 4,000 miles for most drivers. IF you live in extreme climates (High altitude, cold, or hot) change the oil every 3000 miles. Synthetics...will suprisingly hold out for 6K or 7k. Go Syn!

  • lol, with the way I drive, I have to do a oil change every 1,500 miles WHILE using grade 5 synthetic oil (royal purple). Usually a normal driver on grade 5 could change oil every 6k miles since they aren't so harsh on the engine, But I'm a prick and race everywhere I go so 1,500 is right when the oil turns pitch black (from purple, cuz royal purple is actually purple oil).

  • well if you dont know that you dont HAVE TO get it changed every 3 months you shouldnt be driving either. oil doesnt go bad sitting there. nor does it get used if you dont go the 3000 miles. thats like you getting an oil change. not driving 3 months. then getting another one.

  • actually yes oil does go bad just sitting there

the detergents inside the oil start breaking down and doesn't clean out the parts inside the engine very well

better to be safe than sorry

and yes i would spent my own $20 on 5 quarts of oil if i haven't drove it in a while

thats how i make my engines last you idiot

  • well, i have gotten 200,000 out of my present ride and only change the oil once a year and it is a 2001 year model. it had 70,000 on it when i bought it in late 2001. how do you explain that??

    just curious???

  • i still say your a jackass

once a year is definitely not enough

you will most likely wear out your main bearings of your engine very fast

work on your car more often you wuss

  • @BryceGrover Here in europe any garage you go to for an oil change says that organic oil need to be changed after 5000km, semi-synthetic after 10000km and fully synthetic oil after 15000km.

  • 20$ on oil for 5 quarts? your using dish detergent. ahahaha

  • i always forget to pump up my tyres offten, make sure you do.

also saves the tread on your tyres

  • i get one every 3 thousand miles

  • you don't know anything...there are a lot of other ways as well.

You should have at least used the google

  • 5 stars

  • how often do you recommend oil change?

  • @psychodelicdragon usually 3000 miles is my rule for oil changes. Some people go 5000 or possibly higher, but i never will.
