I enjoy the playing. Don't mind the explanation as each version is SO different. Thanks for your help. I have know this song for some time but wanted to expand a little bit on the chords and voicing.
that is so sweet !!! one of the all-time great songs, as I saw T-Bone at a small club
in S.F. in the late 60's with only 10 people in attendence. what a killer showman ................ thanks for history lesson !! also love Bobby Blue Bland's version.
Great lesson man! BUT, how come when you show how the Allman Brothers do it at the end, you don't do it in G like you said they do it? It all seems the same.
what's the difference between a hamburger and a beefburger man? I'm English and I honestly don't know. When I was young (-38 years ago) all you could buy was a hamburger. A beefburger was unheard of. Now everything is a beefburger in Spain or Timbuktu. But following your example of hamness I believe you may have a pig's arse point of view.
David was an instructor at the National Guitar Summer Workshop when I went there, and he had some really-nice things to say about my playing (I was 24 when I went there, and had already been playing professionally at the time - I just wanted to hang and jam with some greats, which I did). I'll never forget the fun I had there. Played with Ronnie Earl, his band, Duke Robillard, Kenny Neal, and other great players over the two weeks I was there. Then I went to Amsterdam for a month right after it.
Hey, I remember this guy! He taught at the National Guitar Summer Workshop back when I spent two extremely-sweltering weeks there at the Canterbury School in New Milford, CT (The A/C broke down right before I got there - right at the beginning of a 2-week heatwave - It was so-hot that everybody would retreat down to the local jazz club in town, who had A/C - even the guest-instructors like Ronnie Earl, Duke Robillard, Kenny Neal, etc. - Great time, despite the scorching heat).
Have you ever responded to saturnspider? I seem to have T-bone's version in G also. Great lesson. I could be wrong and I enjoyed how you play all three. Thanks again.
You say T-Bone recorded his song in Ab but every version I have heard (including his original) is in G. Are you sure you aren't erroneously getting the idea of his key being Ab from a 'running slow' turntable version of a 45 or 78 disc?
Many thanks for this. It's really kind of you to post it. I think I got most of it the first time, but the walk is too beautiful for words. I want to get that spot on. Many thanks indeed, Phil.
@LorenzoBaudelaire I believe Dave is mistaken about the key for the T-Bone version. It's in G. The Bobby Bland version is in A-flat, and you can play along in standard tuning by moving everything up one fret.
I loved this. Great playing, sound and lesson. Do you ever use the Daug or Daug7chord just before ending the phrase?

What kind of guitar is that? Hollow body Epiphone? What is the model? Looks great. Looks like the T Bone Walker guitar.
BTW, where is the rest of the lesson?

Yeah, I checked T-Bone's 1947 Capitol Black and White recording and both the issued take and the alternate appear to be in G.
