True, Democrats got no credit for pushing the car back up the embankment in the face of lockstep Republican obstruction. But neither did the previous administration get credit for narrowly avoiding the cliff with its last-minute maneuvers: bailouts, TARP. Voters don't think there was really a cliff. John Boehner says it's not an alligator, it's an "ant."
The lesson in all this: nobody remembers. Do whatever it takes—partisan maneuvering, horse-trading, back-stabbing—to fix the economy, stupid.
