I hear you about the squirls. I live in the desert and around here it's the rat's that get your citrus and pomegranits but I have been to asia and when SH's TF I have learned a few good recipies just for them!!! Basil Rat, Minty Rat, The list goes on (LOL)
@BabyIYours My fruit tree problems all have to do with the drought that we are experiancing right now. I got my Black Walnuts from a friend who said that he put them in the refrigerator for a month to trick them into germinating. When I got them they had alread sprouted. I don't know what he did to get them to this point. They had only been in the dirt for about a week when I did this vid last week.
I lost a horse that colic being held on a dry lot with a black walnut tree. She died as she rolled and twisted her gut from the pain. We have many many black walnut trees around the farm and the horses and cattle avoid it as they have plenty of pastures. Just wanted to mention not to let livestock get into those husks. Black walnut tincture rids parasites when used properly. Most people have access to these trees in rural areas.
Black walnuts are allopathic. Make sure you do not put them around any trees you do not want to stunt. They will kill your tomatoes dead. Love the idea of helping each other. I should be able to collect some walnuts, They are about 3/4 done growing in my area.
We have black walnut trees on the back forty. The wife decided to pick a couple buckets and peel the hull to dry them. Having never done black walnuts before, they're called that for a reason. Her hands turned black into the first bucket and it took weeks for it to wear off. There's nothing on God's green earth that will take off that dye. Her friends at the country store laughed for days. Poor gal. Better her than me. I didn't know either.
@threeredstars I have 4 plum trees. I think. 2 of them had plums on them but the squirrels found both trees and stripped them both on the same day. I love that when SH'sTF I have all of the squirrel bait that I could ever use.
I love Black Walnuts. You are right about the amount of time it takes to be prepared. I have been prepping for over 30 years and there are still things I want to include in my retreats. So few people are aware of the potential catastrophe we face.
Yup, It's a learning process. I've spent the last 2 years finding out that I really need to focus on finding the right plants to put together without one of them taking over the garden. The squash doesn't seem to play well with the beans and carrots- that was year one's lesson.

I have a black walnut growing in my yard. I was debating about cutting it down, it's not growing in the best spot. Maybe it can stay a little longer, it is producing walnuts. Cracked one open last year found out why they call it a Black Walnut, ended up with black finger for a day.

@bobinmissouri Another name for them is Jerusalem Artichoke. They are a native species (weed) and are suppose to be growing wild all over Missouri.

@stevesmitty79 The indians used the walnuts for the dye. Or so I'm told.

If you put a dog house under a black walnut tree, the dog will have no fleas.
